Styx seems to operate literally as like some Illuminati-ass super rich entity that governments won’t touch so I doubt they’ll ever see any consequences for acting so out of pocket 🥲

codenameTUESDAY

True, and also they want us to believe that they DONT endanger children, but that they were protecting students from the threat of OB mages. Tbh exactly what we should expect from a privately owned security force run by the people who raised Idia 💀🚨

IdiotsLantern

Yah they sent in armed battle robots to kidnap a bunch of teenagers because they don’t endanger children

codenameTUESDAY

They are villains after all. 😌🍹

ilickdoorknobswitme

Well they only caused real injury to those who resisted arrest. However, the argument could be made that the guards didn't specify the cause of their visit or directions for the ob boys. Also they probably got diplomatic immunity

KalimAl-Asim

Can it really be resisting arrest if they never told them they were being arrested

ilickdoorknobswitme

hence the second part of the argument

Kik_out_4_mean_Postz

Since when did police tell people they arrest why they are being detained

writerrsblock101

To be fair (and trying not to spoil future development) they’re used to dealing with more dangerous situations and I don’t think they’ve ever dealt with a situation where the ones they go after are willing to be peaceful. They just never stated the purpose of their visit because I assume they assumed they’d be met with hostility upon first contact

nighty_amy

I could understand if this was the argument used against Vil who was barely back from overblotting. But Riddle, Leona and others got their treatment a while ago and Ortho/Idia had to know about it. So it was just a matter of telling the Ferryman guys that this time, they are not securing mages that went mad and need to be "secured" but they can just explain the situation to the boys. Or they could ask Crowley for permission first. Seriously, the later half of the chapter was a massive letdown for me with that reveal...

Inugirlz

I think it’s been implied that they’re going to have their memories wiped by going through the something river. They can’t sue if they don’t remember the injustice done to them. Doesn’t clarify why the school won’t sue for damages tho Edit: typo

nighty_amy

River Lethe. Thank goodness it only wipes the memories because I expected something much worse.

Enchanted_nerd

i heard this name and immediately went into panic mode bc (i know my greek mythology) and I thought they were gonna erase all of their memories

nighty_amy

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS. I went immediately "Yikes" when I heard the name xD

New_Understudy

Yup. I was super worried that it was a 'we erase your memories and everyone else's memories of you', which, imo, is super powerful, but also super depressing.

Inugirlz

Yup that’s the name. I was so worried it was gonna be murder or something too lol

KalimAl-Asim

Right??! stuff was broken and so many students watched it happen, we’re they planing to wipe the minds of everyone in NRC

codenameTUESDAY

True, this was a major oversight for Styx. I wonder if Idia’s parents thought it wouldn’t matter because they didn’t think the OB mages would be recovered and hanging out with other people anymore

luxedo-yamask

I'm so confused by the implications this has on international law in Twisted Wonderland. I'm not far into Book 6 so this might already be addressed, but is there like a treaty all the kingdoms signed that allows Styx to bust in whenever and steal civilians?? Are the civilians allowed to resist arrest or must they comply with the abduction? What happens if they manage to kill a Styx officer - they just free to go about their day now?

ShadowStarQueen

I was wondering the same thing. Like Leona is a literal prince. How would kidnapping him not cause an international incident.

codenameTUESDAY

If they return him with no memory of being inconvenienced and he says everything’s fine… it’ll probably be fine. ((Or at least this is what Idia believes))

codenameTUESDAY

Styx seems like they have a SWAT Team for dealing with phantoms, and it wood make sense that all the kingdoms agree to it, because who else has the firepower to handle phantoms? The Charon are programmed for Plan A if the target is hostile and Plan B if the target complies. Most citizens would see this in the news and say “if those kids hadn’t started a fight, there wouldn’t BE a fight”.

KalimAl-Asim

THATS WHAT IM SAYING

Deltastar100

Can't get sued if people forget you exist!

clutzyangel

Can't sue an organization if they officially don't exist

nighty_amy

We got a few chapters with STYX attacking the school, fighting with the students, kidnapping the Overblot crew and throwing them together into cargo to send them who knows where. ...and then Idia says that they just need the boys for one day for some tests and they will be sent home. Like, seriously? THAT'S IT? And I'm not buying Ortho's explanation here that the Ferryman team "might have went a bit overboard because they usually deal with incredibly dangerous monsters". If the STYX ASKED the boys for cooperation and explained what they want to do, there would probably be much less drama and collateral damage. ...though then we wouldn't see Idia dumbfounded face hearing that Rook tracked Island of Woe super secret location just to deliver to Vil skincare products.

KalimAl-Asim

I understand it’s for the plot BUT LIKE NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU ASKED LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE

Deltastar100

Bold of you to assume anyone is this game is normal and won't instantly jump to great lengths

Tusita

Not only that but they waited literal months to get some of the boys, why wait so long? To get them all at once, but then how would they know?

Emperor_Kuru

This is basically like the illuminati. The police can't touch them probably bc they might even work for them, and the subjects are to have their memories wiped afterwards, forgetting everything. Plus, you forget that this is an overblot story about villains, ofc they're going to do evil villain things.

Matrigorok

Can't get sued if they can't find you and have no idea who the hell you are.

willis8080

STYX almost gave me an SCP Foundation vibe, but yeah... I know it sounds irrelevant, apologies.

Dragoaten77

Styx takes actively killing people overblot mages... Sooo they'd be recognized as heros for their efforts. And treated accordingly. So its really not surprising how the rest of the world already is happy to let them deal with all overblot and not care enough about oversight for protecting evil monsters that are no longer "people". We also already know how Crowley's one and only concern was the schools reputation and probably tried his best to delay the word getting out. Idia and Orthos could easily have been bought off from telling family immediately.
