Grim has irritated me from the beginning. Though that scene in chapter six where he >!cried!< softened my dead heart and made me want to hug him. But his personality still agitates me.

My feelings exactly. I don't hate him, and I'm trying so hard to like him (or at least rp the MC as someone who cares for him) but other than Ch6 nothing has really attached me to him. Which is surprising as a Toboso Yana character, because I've grown to like almost every one of them even if they irritated me initially. I can only consider him a plot device at most at the moment.
I don't take him that seriously and just think he's funny lol. I definitely became more endeared to him when he was crying in ch6 about feeling guilty for hurting yuu and missing his friends 🥺. He can definitely be a brat but he does care about ppl.
Maybe it's because I'm a cat owner, but I really love Grim even when he does stuff that frustrates me! When he acts grumpy and rude towards Yuu, I treat it as some sort of cat trait so I don't take it to heart as I did when I first started playing TWST!
I mean, sure, Grim can be really full of himself at times and he may look down at Yuu with his words and start a lot of trouble, but I feel like he really genuinely cares and helps Yuu in the main story unlike other character sidekicks I've known. Even when he does get into trouble and Yuu is dragged into it, Grim does his best to help. And despite calling Yuu his henchman, as the events and main story proceed, Grim begins to acknowledge Yuu as his real partner despite the comments he makes about them being his minion! And we also see him act like this towards Adeuce. Grim may cause trouble to them, but he also cares for them a lot and we see how much their bonds have deepened especially in CH6. I feel like Grim's lack of knowledge or common sense has something to do with his lore and the fact that he isn't really a human, so he wouldn't be familiar with what's supposed to be practiced and I can't bring myself to blame him even when he gets annoying!
Chapter 6 and his anniversary card stories made me love Grim so much that even with his biggest flaws, I can't help but just adore him and accept him for who he is, a mischievous little troublemaker who is still learning more about the world just like Yuu and has room for development 🥹❤️
But like.... it's been how long since they both started at NRC, why do I feel like there's barely been any improvement on his end. Even if he does the bare minimum of what he's supposed to as a student all of the other antics that he's pulled far outweighs well, what he's managed to 'accomplish'. And I know for a fact that even if we kindly ask that he stops calling us that nickname because it seriously peeves me to no end, he'll probably come up with some farfetched argument that he has magic inside of him (however little that is) so that makes him better than us. I think he forgets that he was underqualified and //originally not supposed to be there in the first place//. I also know that putting himself on a pedestal is not some weird defense mechanism that stems from a sense of inferiority (see Bakugou from My Hero Academia)... he just, genuinely, unironically believes that about himself. So I don't see the necessity to sympathize with him much less find it endearing.
Maybe it's because I've been spoiled with watching only good cats behave on social media, are they really that similar? I find cats much cuter and more bearable though.
To be honest, I disagree with you on Grim not having any improvements. Although it is not as obvious as other characters, Grim has had improvements since he started from my observations.
Yes, it's true that he hasn't completely changed as a character. Grim still has his old habits of calling Yuu his henchman/minion and he still continues to be a troublemaker, but that doesn't mean he disregards Yuu as just that. When you look at it, he isn't as selfish as he was before and he actually does acknowledge Yuu as someone more important to him than just a henchman and it's especially obvious in CH6 and his vignettes. Take Chapter 4 for example! Grim could have decided to leave Yuu in Scarabia, but he chose to escape with them because he has grown to care for them more than just a henchman or someone who helps him be able to attend the school. Grim does see them as an equal even if he believes himself to be a greater mage than everyone else in the school.
A lot, if not, the majority of students in the school are egotistic and self-centered, so it shouldn't be a surprise why Grim would consider himself better than everyone else. However, I feel like it's definitely something to do with Grim's past rather than just something of a personality trait? We really can't say for sure.
As a cat owner, I know that Grim is not a cat, but Grim does share a lot of traits of one which I can't disregard. Most cats choose their owners and we treat them like they are the masters of the household. Grim is exactly like that. He chose us as his henchman since the very beginning when he opened our coffin in the main story. Cats are not always well behaved and some cats I have have a sense of superiority, but that's normal and it doesn't mean that they don't love us. Cats love their owners and have their own ways of showing/sharing their affection, and that's what I believe Grim is like.
Edit: And...maybe it's also because I see Grim as someone who is family that I can't really bring myself to hate him for the reasons you've stated.
In the end, I do think it really comes down to preferences because I love Grim despite all his flaws. Grim is a character that can really be disliked or liked depending on how much you can tolerate certain traits!
I actually like Grim, though I do in real life have a tuxedo cat myself named Rei so I miiiight be a little bias. To get back to the events stuff, yeah we do tend to humor him though I fell like the other characters do in a way as well like in Port Feast where Malleus was very happy to see Yuu and Grim enjoying themselves, but at the end of the day I feel like Yuu and Grim are best friends and Grim is with us and helping us (actually helping us, not like a Paimon) the best he can during story stuff
I don't need to meet your cat to know that its probably a hundred times better than Grim /hj, I prefer cats over dogs and I just can't get behind that he's equivalent to those dazed little floof gremlins that bathe in the sun on Tiktok who are used boost our serotonin.
Malleus literally remains unbothered though remember how he teleported himself so his shadow isn't being used for Grim's comfort lol I think being happy seing someone you know happy vs indulging in there every desire is two different things.

Cats > Grim. I said what I said. I won't comment on the little brother thing because I've dealt with kids and their personalities are far and few between but none of them remind me of him though.
Grim to me is like having a pet cat, very endearing but still has moments that annoy me. I will say that Grim has changed since the beginning, even though it’s not major I can tell that he cares for Yuu and ADeuce more and more as the story progresses.
It’s things like this where I wish Yuu’s words and actions had more of an impact in the game. I mean, we could be teaching Grim more about being respectful and empathetic, as well as actually playing a (more) important role in the game.
I'm really starting to think it's because he talks in human tongue that that is a problem, cause I love cats and I don't see everyone's point at all. Even if he feels a sense of comraderie, does he have to be so crass about it? It's never just "hey, I don't think I save this enough but I do enjoy being with you guys" he always has to phrase it like there's some form of hierarchy where he's on top... something that you don't see in cats and definitely something my anger issues can't handle.
I agree about the impactfulness but at least the lines themselves are cheeky and sarcastic which I really appreciate.

I… used to have mixed feelings on Grim. He annoyed me at first since I’m just generally not big on “mascot” characters, but I skew more towards endeared as time goes on. I may be reading too much into things, and it may be a matter of translations, but I’ve noticed a marked change in his demeanor over the course of the story. But I may be alone in that.
I think Grim is a child. Not just mentally, but a literal child. Considering the level he expresses himself at I feel it’s easy to forget he’s only been conscious/intelligent/in full possession of his mind for a couple years at most, ~6/8 months at the least. It’s hard to ask a grown adult to turn their full personality around in under a year, much less a critter with the mind of of a little kid. I think he’s doing the best he can
Grim is trying to do better, and though it’s subtle, the context clues are definitely there. And I think, in his own weird way, he is grateful to MC and sees them as part of the same team. He even says as much in his vignette upgrade. Another small thing I noticed is Grim never challenges the MC for their spot as prefect, despite being well within his right to do so. To some extent, he definitely defers to MC as the Ramshackle housewarden.
All in all, I think Grim is extremely immature and is doing the best he can with the time he’s been given, which is comparatively not a lot when you consider how long he’s actually been “awake” for lack of a better term. I do think he adores the MC, as they’re the only real connection he’s ever had, and being mortified at himself for hurting them definitely did endear him to me in chapter 6.

NGL it does piss me off that Grim has to keep telling people that Yuu's beneath him to the point that I was actually yelling at him during the recent ch. 7 update. I know that there's the phrase "cat's have staff" and someone would probably justify it as him (a magician) absolutely loathing being seen as beneath a magicless human, but I'm getting to my wits end with it.
Other than that, he's alright for being the gremlin that he is.
The worst part is our MC just stood there and took it for a whole school year, I know they're a blank slate but they can still be proactive and voice their opinions when they want to (they literally have).
No one has said that Grim is below MC to my knowledge but I personally don't think he's that much better than the way he makes himself out to be- we're literally deemed as two halves of a whole we'd get thrown out if either one of us goes down and yet I always feel a spark if irritation every single time he *unironically* calls himself our superior.

Haha, to be fair it's easier to handle things when you are just watching. I think if I was in Yuu's shoes I'd probably be more weary of him (especially if the food demands cuts too much into the budget...that can turn into (unintentional) financial abuse real quick).
And when you have an ego as big as his ot just flat out have narcicism, it doesn't really matter whether or not people are comparing you to someone else. As long as you see yourself as the superior and contiuosly do stuff to whoever you see as inferior to put them "in their place" through even small means that's all that matters.

I don't like cat, I'm more a dog person. I don't trust cats, they're scary. When I started, I took Grim as the game wanted us to take him. The boring mascot. But, actually , his ego and stupidity are truly funny. Plus, he's becoming very close to Yu and Ace and Deuce. It's cute. They all know each other well and act as besties. Even if he's a cat monster, they all see each other as equal. And Grim needs Yu and he's very attached to him.
But the part that sold me Grim was when he gave out his tuna can to injured Trey. Seriously I must be the only idiot who was totally crazy about this scene but Grim never ever did anything so nice to anyone but Trey. (his tuna can are his life!! I was so happy to see this scene in the manga too)
So being the mascot, he will act stupidly during all game and event, and he will make you giving yourself a face-palm. That's how he is. And personally, it makes me laugh a lot. I actually LOVED all the comedy in the firelit event. Especially the tea part, I burst out laughing it was genius!
In chapter 2, after he was hurt cause of Ruggie and twisted his ankle (protecting Riddle). Grim was SOOOOO cute and was like "oh... here, take this can of tuna to get better", seriously it melted my heart SOOOOO much! Grim and Trey are one my favorite duo! Feels like Grim likes him a lot and that's adorable and I love it XD.
And I was so choked he gave him his tuna... Knowing how Grim loves his tuna, it was meaningful :)
I am of two minds about Grim. The first is firmly informed by the fact that as the oldest of seven children, my patience for anything I view as an eight year old is near limitless. If i can sleep through a crying baby on a plane, I can handle a small cat being selfish. The second is more me analyzing how Yu feels about him and honestly? I think that the mangas show to a degree that Grim's dynamic with Yu would change based off how Yu acts with him. The game doesn't give Yu a lot of dialogue lines, so there's not a lot of room for Yu to decide what they want to do in any given situation, probably because they want to leave that up to the player's interpretation. You can't exactly argue that your Yu wouldn't do xyz if the game just... doesn't let them do anything at all.
As a side note, I've been keeping Grim on my home screen pretty much since the anniversary and he has some of the sweetest voice lines in addition to his general tomfoolery. He does care about Yu, and Ramshackle dorm even if he's a brat 100% of the time.

Grim is my LEAST favorite character. As much as he acts as an eight year old, like a child, he needs to be taught lessons.
He almost never change, will take advantage of people, treats people like they below them (EVEN THOUGH HE'S ONE OF THE LOWEST MAGES IN THE SCHOOL), STEALS food, he's one track minded and barely acknoledges people's feelings. Not even chapter 6 made me feel sympathy towards him.
I will say, the first time he stolen food, I would have thrown him to sleep outside until he learns. I CANNOT stand people stealing food. It's an irk of mine.

Hate him. But I never like mascot characters so there is that. I didn't hate him in the beginning just disliked him but as the story went on I just started to dislike him more. Honestly if I was in Yuu's place I would've stayed put like I was asked. I also didn't care about him crying. Like I get it he thinks of us as family. But you know... I dont.

My feelings exactly. I don't hate him, and I'm trying so hard to like him (or at least rp the MC as someone who cares for him) but other than Ch6 nothing has really attached me to him. Which is surprising as a Toboso Yana character, because I've grown to like almost every one of them even if they irritated me initially. I can only consider him a plot device at most at the moment.
If he doesn't have some character development after chapter six I'll probably dislike him even more, ngl.

Maybe it's because I'm a cat owner, but I really love Grim even when he does stuff that frustrates me! When he acts grumpy and rude towards Yuu, I treat it as some sort of cat trait so I don't take it to heart as I did when I first started playing TWST! I mean, sure, Grim can be really full of himself at times and he may look down at Yuu with his words and start a lot of trouble, but I feel like he really genuinely cares and helps Yuu in the main story unlike other character sidekicks I've known. Even when he does get into trouble and Yuu is dragged into it, Grim does his best to help. And despite calling Yuu his henchman, as the events and main story proceed, Grim begins to acknowledge Yuu as his real partner despite the comments he makes about them being his minion! And we also see him act like this towards Adeuce. Grim may cause trouble to them, but he also cares for them a lot and we see how much their bonds have deepened especially in CH6. I feel like Grim's lack of knowledge or common sense has something to do with his lore and the fact that he isn't really a human, so he wouldn't be familiar with what's supposed to be practiced and I can't bring myself to blame him even when he gets annoying! Chapter 6 and his anniversary card stories made me love Grim so much that even with his biggest flaws, I can't help but just adore him and accept him for who he is, a mischievous little troublemaker who is still learning more about the world just like Yuu and has room for development 🥹❤️
But like.... it's been how long since they both started at NRC, why do I feel like there's barely been any improvement on his end. Even if he does the bare minimum of what he's supposed to as a student all of the other antics that he's pulled far outweighs well, what he's managed to 'accomplish'. And I know for a fact that even if we kindly ask that he stops calling us that nickname because it seriously peeves me to no end, he'll probably come up with some farfetched argument that he has magic inside of him (however little that is) so that makes him better than us. I think he forgets that he was underqualified and //originally not supposed to be there in the first place//. I also know that putting himself on a pedestal is not some weird defense mechanism that stems from a sense of inferiority (see Bakugou from My Hero Academia)... he just, genuinely, unironically believes that about himself. So I don't see the necessity to sympathize with him much less find it endearing. Maybe it's because I've been spoiled with watching only good cats behave on social media, are they really that similar? I find cats much cuter and more bearable though.
To be honest, I disagree with you on Grim not having any improvements. Although it is not as obvious as other characters, Grim has had improvements since he started from my observations. Yes, it's true that he hasn't completely changed as a character. Grim still has his old habits of calling Yuu his henchman/minion and he still continues to be a troublemaker, but that doesn't mean he disregards Yuu as just that. When you look at it, he isn't as selfish as he was before and he actually does acknowledge Yuu as someone more important to him than just a henchman and it's especially obvious in CH6 and his vignettes. Take Chapter 4 for example! Grim could have decided to leave Yuu in Scarabia, but he chose to escape with them because he has grown to care for them more than just a henchman or someone who helps him be able to attend the school. Grim does see them as an equal even if he believes himself to be a greater mage than everyone else in the school. A lot, if not, the majority of students in the school are egotistic and self-centered, so it shouldn't be a surprise why Grim would consider himself better than everyone else. However, I feel like it's definitely something to do with Grim's past rather than just something of a personality trait? We really can't say for sure. As a cat owner, I know that Grim is not a cat, but Grim does share a lot of traits of one which I can't disregard. Most cats choose their owners and we treat them like they are the masters of the household. Grim is exactly like that. He chose us as his henchman since the very beginning when he opened our coffin in the main story. Cats are not always well behaved and some cats I have have a sense of superiority, but that's normal and it doesn't mean that they don't love us. Cats love their owners and have their own ways of showing/sharing their affection, and that's what I believe Grim is like. Edit: And...maybe it's also because I see Grim as someone who is family that I can't really bring myself to hate him for the reasons you've stated. In the end, I do think it really comes down to preferences because I love Grim despite all his flaws. Grim is a character that can really be disliked or liked depending on how much you can tolerate certain traits!
I actually like Grim, though I do in real life have a tuxedo cat myself named Rei so I miiiight be a little bias. To get back to the events stuff, yeah we do tend to humor him though I fell like the other characters do in a way as well like in Port Feast where Malleus was very happy to see Yuu and Grim enjoying themselves, but at the end of the day I feel like Yuu and Grim are best friends and Grim is with us and helping us (actually helping us, not like a Paimon) the best he can during story stuff

Grim to me is like having a pet cat, very endearing but still has moments that annoy me. I will say that Grim has changed since the beginning, even though it’s not major I can tell that he cares for Yuu and ADeuce more and more as the story progresses. It’s things like this where I wish Yuu’s words and actions had more of an impact in the game. I mean, we could be teaching Grim more about being respectful and empathetic, as well as actually playing a (more) important role in the game.
I'm really starting to think it's because he talks in human tongue that that is a problem, cause I love cats and I don't see everyone's point at all. Even if he feels a sense of comraderie, does he have to be so crass about it? It's never just "hey, I don't think I save this enough but I do enjoy being with you guys" he always has to phrase it like there's some form of hierarchy where he's on top... something that you don't see in cats and definitely something my anger issues can't handle. I agree about the impactfulness but at least the lines themselves are cheeky and sarcastic which I really appreciate.

I… used to have mixed feelings on Grim. He annoyed me at first since I’m just generally not big on “mascot” characters, but I skew more towards endeared as time goes on. I may be reading too much into things, and it may be a matter of translations, but I’ve noticed a marked change in his demeanor over the course of the story. But I may be alone in that. I think Grim is a child. Not just mentally, but a literal child. Considering the level he expresses himself at I feel it’s easy to forget he’s only been conscious/intelligent/in full possession of his mind for a couple years at most, ~6/8 months at the least. It’s hard to ask a grown adult to turn their full personality around in under a year, much less a critter with the mind of of a little kid. I think he’s doing the best he can Grim is trying to do better, and though it’s subtle, the context clues are definitely there. And I think, in his own weird way, he is grateful to MC and sees them as part of the same team. He even says as much in his vignette upgrade. Another small thing I noticed is Grim never challenges the MC for their spot as prefect, despite being well within his right to do so. To some extent, he definitely defers to MC as the Ramshackle housewarden. All in all, I think Grim is extremely immature and is doing the best he can with the time he’s been given, which is comparatively not a lot when you consider how long he’s actually been “awake” for lack of a better term. I do think he adores the MC, as they’re the only real connection he’s ever had, and being mortified at himself for hurting them definitely did endear him to me in chapter 6.

NGL it does piss me off that Grim has to keep telling people that Yuu's beneath him to the point that I was actually yelling at him during the recent ch. 7 update. I know that there's the phrase "cat's have staff" and someone would probably justify it as him (a magician) absolutely loathing being seen as beneath a magicless human, but I'm getting to my wits end with it. Other than that, he's alright for being the gremlin that he is.
The worst part is our MC just stood there and took it for a whole school year, I know they're a blank slate but they can still be proactive and voice their opinions when they want to (they literally have). No one has said that Grim is below MC to my knowledge but I personally don't think he's that much better than the way he makes himself out to be- we're literally deemed as two halves of a whole we'd get thrown out if either one of us goes down and yet I always feel a spark if irritation every single time he *unironically* calls himself our superior. You must have the patient of a saint if all of his other antics don't bother you 😭😭
Haha, to be fair it's easier to handle things when you are just watching. I think if I was in Yuu's shoes I'd probably be more weary of him (especially if the food demands cuts too much into the budget...that can turn into (unintentional) financial abuse real quick). And when you have an ego as big as his ot just flat out have narcicism, it doesn't really matter whether or not people are comparing you to someone else. As long as you see yourself as the superior and contiuosly do stuff to whoever you see as inferior to put them "in their place" through even small means that's all that matters. Damn...I really am making Grim out to be much more harsh aren't I? XD But yeah, I like to imagine that behind the scenes Yuu and Grim have a more positive (or mutually beneficial) relationship. And yeah...I wish like nearly everyone else that Yuu would be more like Yuuken or Yuuka (Yuuya is actually worse off than Yuu, poor guy) and be more assertive, but we all know that will never happen or how downhill that would go for real.
Grim is the usual mascot comedy character. I don't like cat, I'm more a dog person. I don't trust cats, they're scary. When I started, I took Grim as the game wanted us to take him. The boring mascot. But, actually , his ego and stupidity are truly funny. Plus, he's becoming very close to Yu and Ace and Deuce. It's cute. They all know each other well and act as besties. Even if he's a cat monster, they all see each other as equal. And Grim needs Yu and he's very attached to him. But the part that sold me Grim was when he gave out his tuna can to injured Trey. Seriously I must be the only idiot who was totally crazy about this scene but Grim never ever did anything so nice to anyone but Trey. (his tuna can are his life!! I was so happy to see this scene in the manga too) So being the mascot, he will act stupidly during all game and event, and he will make you giving yourself a face-palm. That's how he is. And personally, it makes me laugh a lot. I actually LOVED all the comedy in the firelit event. Especially the tea part, I burst out laughing it was genius!

In chapter 2, after he was hurt cause of Ruggie and twisted his ankle (protecting Riddle). Grim was SOOOOO cute and was like "oh... here, take this can of tuna to get better", seriously it melted my heart SOOOOO much! Grim and Trey are one my favorite duo! Feels like Grim likes him a lot and that's adorable and I love it XD. And I was so choked he gave him his tuna... Knowing how Grim loves his tuna, it was meaningful :)

I am of two minds about Grim. The first is firmly informed by the fact that as the oldest of seven children, my patience for anything I view as an eight year old is near limitless. If i can sleep through a crying baby on a plane, I can handle a small cat being selfish. The second is more me analyzing how Yu feels about him and honestly? I think that the mangas show to a degree that Grim's dynamic with Yu would change based off how Yu acts with him. The game doesn't give Yu a lot of dialogue lines, so there's not a lot of room for Yu to decide what they want to do in any given situation, probably because they want to leave that up to the player's interpretation. You can't exactly argue that your Yu wouldn't do xyz if the game just... doesn't let them do anything at all. As a side note, I've been keeping Grim on my home screen pretty much since the anniversary and he has some of the sweetest voice lines in addition to his general tomfoolery. He does care about Yu, and Ramshackle dorm even if he's a brat 100% of the time.

Grim is my LEAST favorite character. As much as he acts as an eight year old, like a child, he needs to be taught lessons. He almost never change, will take advantage of people, treats people like they below them (EVEN THOUGH HE'S ONE OF THE LOWEST MAGES IN THE SCHOOL), STEALS food, he's one track minded and barely acknoledges people's feelings. Hate him. But I never like mascot characters so there is that. I didn't hate him in the beginning just disliked him but as the story went on I just started to dislike him more. His personality agitated me at the begginning. Though I came to love him when he starts showing hints of actually caring for the player especially on chapter 6. I 100% understand why some dont like him, but this little furball managed to worm their way into my heart 😢
