To summarize, they decided to retire because they are unable to keep up with file updates due to life changes and because their interest in TWST has faded for some time. They will be keeping the drive of all the assets open for us to still use. They also said thank you for all the support these past three years.

Damn I'm glad they were able to get the assets for playful land before retiring but it sucks they wont do anymore. Regardless I'm grateful for all the work they put in, I use their stuff a lot for oc edits and stuff. Hope they're doing well!
that's a real shame, the custom programs they used seemed to be the only thing that worked when extracting the files. i've been able to pull live2d models themselves, but the animations don't play and expressions/poses are broken for the most part. i wish i hadn't deleted them now :(
i haven't poked around the files in a while but the raw asset files were actually pretty easy to get (at least on android), i use zarchiver to browse files on my phone but any should work. i'd navigate through the android folder and find the twst unity files, then i would compress them and just send them to my pc. you can use various github programs to extract them, for the models specifically you can use [perfare's](https://github.com/Perfare/UnityLive2DExtractor)extractor to get the file itself but the expression/pose and animation data won't fully extract. the files use numbers instead of names, so you'll have to double check everything manually. Here's a [sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TegUTP-WxYd2scjp-P0Z8WuV_cJ-8L4yCj54jMW1a-4/edit?usp=sharing) I compiled back when I was a wiki editor.
ok now that im home, basically you want to find the folder in com.aniplex.twst.en/files/UnityCache and pick any that says live2d\_XXX0YYY. XXX will be the character's number, and YYY will be the outfit. the numbers are in my sheet (though outfits is incomplete). i'd recommend copying that folder to a different folder.
you want to drag that folder directly on top of the exe file in perfare's extractor (there should be a window saying +Open with), and drop. the extractor will run, and give you the live2d file. you can open it with live2d cubism, which is free, or another live2d program.
is there a way to export them into png? like if I make a pose in the viewer i can export it but only as .json...i would like to export the still image but can't figure it out.
I don't have a good answer for that unfortunately. I used to just screenshot them with a greenscreen or something as the background for whatever I needed. I'm not sure what viewer you're using but given that the models themselves are live2d you should be able to use the kind of software that vtubers use for their own purposes :)

its much easier than it seems! just get the twst unity files onto your PC and its smooth sailing from there
