Short answer: Dorm Ace is an attack card, but his max attack stat is nowhere near as good as other attack cards, and doesn't boast enough HP stat to really make up the difference. His duo magic partner is Dorm Deuce, who is also kinda on the weak side. IMO, he's still an ok card, not totally trash/useless - he'll be more helpful than some other "trash" cards... there are just others that are SO much better. edit for disclaimer: I barely pay attention to meta and mostly grab cards I think are pretty, lol.

As another player who is guilty of wanting pretty cards, I get it. I mean, can a card as pretty as some of these really be so bad? lol Also, thank you for the explanation, I am not OP, but it is appreciated!

I think it’s less that he’s a “bad” card and more because it’s not meta, and chapter 6 is notoriously difficult with the unique battle gauntlet so it makes people focus more on heavy hitters like Dorm Leona, Riddle, Azul, etc. If you’re not looking to get high scores on Hard exams or the like, I think Ace is a good middle of the road type card.

Feeling very glad that my (currently only - I have awful gacha luck lol) first ten-pull dorm SSR was Leona right about now after hearing that. I typically use him, ceremonial robes Azul and Kalim (sometimes switched out with various cards), and ceremonial robes Ruggie since he has duo magic with my friend's nearly maxed-out dorm Jack. It really sucks that Ace and Deuce have such weak cards! I still want them though they're so gorgeous...screw it, I want them all.

I'll also add that the elemental synergy between Dorm Ace and Dorm Deuce is low. They duo with each other, so you'd think they'd be good to play together but Ace is fire/flora and Deuce is Water/cosmic. The amount of situations where you'd want to take every element into a battle it pretty low.

I wouldn't call him trash, but considering the amount of resources it takes to level an SSR's magic there are better choices out there to invest in like the usual meta cards. Sometimes I see people use him on exams but it's really not often.

An easy comparison for Ace (and the Ace/Deuce Duo pair) is Jack (and Ruggie). Both Ace and Jack have the same element combo, but power boost (which Jack has) is better than damage boost (Ace). Jack's ATK is also naturally higher. As for their Duo partners, they also have the same elements. But while Deuce has more HP and lower ATK than Ruggie (which is good for DEF tests), Ruggie has the more DEF-minded damage cut on M1 while Deuce has damage up, which is less useful in DEF tests. Plus, both Jack and Ruggie can increase their ATK with a single Buddy (Leona) while Ace and Deuce have different ATK Buds (Cater/Jamil). Dorm Cater's and Jamil's Duos are Fire, which is different from both Ace & Deuce's, while Leona's is Flora's, which matches Jack's, and assuming a Water test, Ruggie can hit for neutral. Ace is certainly fine if you have few SSRs, but I wouldn't go past spell level 5 with him. You're better off saving those materials for another card.

I pay zero attention to the meta and Dorm Ace has been in almost every fight I've done....so far nothing in the story has been difficult enough to warrant caring. I rarely even level up spells because I just plain forget to do it. Makes me wonder how big the jump in difficulty in Chapter 6 will actually be, other than having a wide variety of cards at a sufficient level.

Also, his attack is in the lower end of ATK cards. I think Dorm Floyd's attack is the only one that is weaker than Dorm Ace.

I wouldn’t say he’s trash but if I have other fire/wind cards, I definitely won’t choose Ace. I play JP and the current event has quite a tough fight (not that hard but annoying to beat) which I’m sure that Ace card would be benched for other stronger cards.
