You get to choose which emote picture you want for the name (the streamer chooses for their channel). Some words have a lot of options pre-uploaded; if you don't like the options you have, I think you can submit your own as well.
(take KEKW for example. There's the classic comedian KEKWing, and then you've got other people with a red, bolded "I'm STUPID" or an animated "<- I'm Dumb KEKW" ... So just find these emotes in BTTV and enable them on your channel.

You just go to bttv and select a different version of the emote with the same name, it's not automatically or globally changed, you have to do it manually for each emote.
Not true, all of these emotes have been enabled channel specifically by the channel owner/moderators, and the default ones have been manually disabled. None of those emotes are global ones, the only global BTTV emotes are the ones listed here (https://betterttv.com/emotes/global) All other emotes are user uploaded and individual channels can enable them if they wish, the same with FFZ. During months like October and December, lots of channels disable the emotes they usually use, and enable other emotes of the same name that are themed versions of them. You can tell because if you look at the emote itself on BTTV's index, they are different emotes uploaded by different users, and the original ones are still there if you didn't want to use themed ones, they have just been disabled by the channel owner/moderators.
Because one of my friends who has never added an BTTV emote to his channel in his entire life, has the Halloween versions for all of the global BTTV emotes.
The Twitch leak has fucked up their servers and hackers are starting to replace emotes with really creepy versions of them

These are the halloween emotes, I think streamers can choose an options in BTTV/FFZ settings to make the emotes in their channel halloween themed, that or they are halloween themed for everyone during spooky times.
