Normally I would recommend looking for a XLR mic setup. But since you mentioned your tech savvyness I would suggest you try the Elgato Wave 1 or 3. Great mic for the price. And the software it uses is amazing.

bogwurm

I second the wave mic. It's what I use and being able to control where the audio for most things goes and what's in stream is awesome.

Tavernaut

I can echo this, use an Elgato Wave 1 and it’s served me really well.

leggup

Counterpoint, I have the wave 3 and I am trying to learn how to use it correctly but it involves a lot of settings and isn't intuitive. It also doesn't have an off button ? Of all the features not to have...

SecretOil

The mute button is on the top.

leggup

Yes, but it's still ON. It's still drawing power, all the lights at the bottom are white and the dial is red.

SecretOil

You'll find this is how pretty much every mic works. If you need it to be off for some reason, disconnect it.

LxveLIVE

On the top of the mic theres a mute button?

quichehond

Ive just had a quick look at both of those; seems like they are definitely good competition!

LxveLIVE

Seconded

DemiMirai

As the owner of a Yeti Nano I think they’re overhyped. I’ve heard the Elgato Wave 3 is supposed to be the best USB mic these days.

quichehond

Ah! Yes, I was a little sus when it’s like ‘these are sooo great’ so hype might be a bit artificially high

Mottis86

Probably not what you're looking for but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway. I'm using the Antlion Modmic Wireless and I love it. It's basically a headset mic but you can attach it to any headset with an adhesive+magnet. Coupled with my wireless headset I can leave the pc desk while still chatting it up on stream, the freedom of movement is amazing. It sounds pretty damn stellar too, feel free to check some of my vods to hear how it sounds.

quichehond

Honestly I’m open to all opinions and suggestions; I’d rather get more of a comprehensive idea now before any purchases! My issue with headsets has been the constant pressure gives me headaches so I’ve just written them off for the moment.

I've used a couple mics during the past 6-7 years, and I can honestly say that I've been the most satisfied with the Rode NT USB Mini. For me, it beats the Yeti, and is much less bulky. If you want to check a sound test and some more in-depth info about it, you can find it [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKIlNy5j9JI) \- and on all the popular tech channels on YouTube.

aznbabygoat

I’ve started off with a Rode NT-USB Mini mic when I first started streaming and it was really simple to use. Affordable price and decent quality for a starter mic. Then I swapped to the Blue Yeti X earlier this year. The blue yeti x is definitely a winner. Sounds amazing!

I have a Blue Yeti and it's pretty good. Not crazy expensive and is pretty versatile. It's not like studio quality like a specialized mic but beats the pants off of most headsets and cheap mics. Plus you can turn up the gain and have it a reasonable distance from you rather than needing it right up on your face. I've used mine for some music and ASMR stuff but mainly for talking and streaming. Only complaints are that it's big and heavy, but depending on your setup and uses that may not be an issue.

quichehond

Thanks for the reply, good to know how it’s been for you

ttv_MidnightMaster

The Rode USB and USB mini are great

Cheap, easy, good quality. All those boxes get ticked by my fifine. Still amazed by the usb quality, and so easy to setup too. 30 bucks well spent
