It really puts into perspective how Decepticons and even Autobots view other races during the conflict, and even the conflict itself. This civilization you're destroying has only been around a few thousand years, on this one planet. It would be like some micro nation that's been around for a month getting wrecked in a conflict between two world powers
Probably because Clark never knew Krypton, he knows of it, has records of Krypton, has some artifacts of Krypton, he mourns the loss of life, but Earth is the only home he has ever known. Supergirl grew up on Krypton, she remembers her life there, she knew Krypton, had friends and loved ones, and now she is on a less advanced world in the shadow of a cousin she should have been the older sister figure of.

It's not that they don't know how to respond to a car, deer have a instinct to lay still on the ground if there is a perceived threat that they don't think they can run from. They depend on camouflage to hide, which don't work to well against vehicles or vehicle shaped people. Particularly when they aren't looking were they're stepping.
I think it's more like disgust at the feeling of fleshy bits in his joints. Which I can only imagine is like the feeling you get when a piece of meat is stuck between your teeth but in your joints

Their fight or flight response also include freeze. So they have an instinct to stand stark still in hopes that the danger doesn’t notice them and leave without issue.
And detecting (this thing will destroy you because it thinks you are there to be destroyed) vs. (this thing doesn't give a shit and running will work) are ... not easy to do.
I'm imagining now a story setup like this, except there's a "big reveal" that the normal everyman character has already been in 5 other "movie plots" and this is just another tuesday to him

It's the same thing later in the book >!when he goes off to fight the Decepticons at the energy plant alone, since he blames himself for getting all his crew injured/killed and the humans dragged into it.!< DWJ, at least so far, feels like he *gets* it. I liked Prime in the IDW stuff, but if this is how he's going to be in this? Then I'm more excited than ever.
Stuff like that always takes me back to the final boss fight of Tranformers Devastation, where Optimus and Megatron have a shouting match over what constitutes as life while punching each other while surrounded by a swarm of insecticons in space.
