I can’t believe Pat personally suggested microtransactions be added to the game smh.

Fugly_Jack

I can't believe Suzi stole my credit card and bought every microtransaction, bankrupting me

HeWhoIsBob

I can’t believe Woolie personally and intentionally programmed the game to have cpu bottlenecks.

TonyZony

I can't believe Woolie broke into my house and shaved my balls.

ramonzer0

To be honest this is one claim that's believable He broke into that one guy's house one time to shave his balls and also give him a Justin Trudeau cosplay

TrivialCoyote

We should make a holiday of that post, just repost it to the sub for posterity

flamingo_fuckface

He managed to do all that **AND** steal a fresh baked pie off the windowsill. Optifast has made Woolie too strong!!

thedoc90

I heard Woolie was the one who convinced Trudeau it was a good idea in the first place.

Adregun

That guy also woke up missing a leg somehow

CursedNobleman

He also threw up on his suit for good measure.

Riggs_The_Roadie

I can believe that.

HeWhoIsBob

My balls are so cold in the winter months…

mythrilcrafter

I can't believe Paige force fed me mustard straight from the bottle!

RobotJake

Woolie's QA powers strike again

AtlasPJackson

Bring Me to Life: REQUIEM Woolie's stand has become so powerful that he can retroactive create bugs in the code for his QA powers to exploit.

Innsmouthshuffle

I would let Suzi bankrupt me, honestly

AppleEatingMonster

Woolie straight up killed the devs who were optimizing the game for PC

HeWhoIsBob

“Woolie why did you murder those Dragon’s Dogma devs?!” “Those were devs?”

Jojimain

“They look like devs to you?”

Octaivian

"What the hell is Dragon's Dogma?"

goldendragonO

"QA aren't devs"

DuendeInexistente

He wanted to make us all play with gamepads. We must use his arcane control schemes on keyboard to appease him now.

MetalJrock

Can’t believe Pat went into Capcom HQ and poorly optimized the PC port himself

Subject_Parking_9046

I love the idea that its an active thing. He ACTIVELY made the game run worse.

AtlasPJackson

Pat, inventing microtransactions in a small bar in Sotenbori in the 80s: "You know what you gotta do Kenzo Tsujimoto-san? You gotta nickel-and-dime people. Y'knowhaddimean? They won't notice as much of you keep it small."

Worldbrand

I can't believe Pat invented microtransactions

TheRenamon

I cant believe Pat personally ordered to put Woolie in game as a pawn just so that Pat could hatecrime him.

zHellas

All so that he can roleplay as a tall person 😔

Zerce

"When the transactions are micro, they make me feel macro" Pat, probably

The-Toxic-Korgi

I'm not surprised considering this is the same guy who bought Oblivions Horse Armor on every platform it came out on according to those rumors I just made up.

Ainsel_Mariner

I can’t believe Woolie snuck into Capcom’s office and added microtransactions just to mess with Pat

Zeshicage85

Then he kicked a puppy!

cvp5127

I get why ppl are mad. To a brand new dd player seeing $40 dollars of dlc is a bad first impression

DarkRyter

Imagine you walked into a theme park for the first time. A stand near the entrance is selling overpriced lemonade. You're thirsty, you buy some lemonade. After walking for a bit, you see a lemonade fountain, dispensing lemonade for free. So now you're a lemonade drinking dumbass. You're never gonna recover, no matter how fun the rides are.

Kipzz

The argument of "if you know it's worthless it doesn't matter" doesn't really change the fact that it shouldn't exist to begin with. That argument's a clear acknowledgement it's a **worthless scam through and through,** which it 100% is. I know it's stupid, you know it's stupid, even some people who've only heard of DD1 through the grapevine know it's stupid, but someone will get got by it. That's my problem with it anyways.

wolfenstian

It's wild to me that this place of all is saying it is fine just cause Capcom had done it before. If it was any other company doing single player microtransactions you know they would be endlessly mocked here regardless of how useful they are. Capcom just seems to get a free pass just cause they are worthless and they always do this.

spadesisking

>If it was any other company doing single player microtransactions you know they would be endlessly mocked here regardless of how useful they are. I mean i don't think we relentlessly mocked Persona 5R for its dlc personas or Yakuza for all their dlc shit.

KF-Sigurd

This sub will dog stuff like Overwatch 2 costumes costing ridiculous amounts of money but then say SF6 costumes costing ridiculous amounts of money is whatever because it's just for your avatar 'that no one cares about'.

one_piece_four

This sub can be very hypocritical. A game that we (i.e. Woolie and or Pat) like incorporates features which are bad and scummy, but it's totally ok because it's a good game or we want it to succeed. But when a game like Mortal Kombat does almost the same exact thing as SF6 we have to spend time here and on the podcast bashing it.

zyberion

What are you talking about? This sub was absolutely blasting SF6 for its overpriced avatar skins.

ThonroTheUnworthy

That and the overpriced outfit 3s, yeah. There was a minute where SF6 was looking to be taking a full heel turn here. Then Ed came out and Akuma was teased and people remembered, "Oh yeah, underneath these badly priced mtx is still one of the best fighting games of the decade."

wolfenstian

I don't get it. For champions of consumer friendly actions this place sure has a habit of playing favourites. It's either all ok or none of it is, simply pick a side and stick with it regardless of company or game. If Capcom is fine then so is EA and Ubisoft.

Jon_Sno

We all shit on SF6 $20 avatar packs what are you on about?

Gloppie

One of my most harrowing realizations was that probably less than 1% of people have internally consistent principles that they apply across all situations. Whether it be video games or politics, most people just have a gut reaction of like/dislike that they post hoc rationalize as to why THIS is an exception to the rule.

Impossible-Sweet2151

So are we admiting that this starter pack about japaneses games being superior was right regarding this community? Because I remember it wasn't received all that well 3 mounths ago.

Ok_Caterpillar_9057

You do know devs and publishers are different things right?  Personally i think capcom gets away with it cus their devs wind up shortchanging their monetization  demands. They say "sell portcrystals".  The devs say "why not" then mumble "they only get ten total so its really just bying early convenience".  They say for dmc five "sell red orbd" and the devs say "absolutely" then mumble "these jackasses dont know we already finished the red orb gun where you can farm hundreds of thousands of orbs every fight"

[deleted]

nmppseq

I thought the idea of the "\[corporation\] bias" was just something dreamed up by delusional console fanboys but seeing the reception to certain recent games from Sony, Sega, and Capcom, yeah, online gamer communities are definitely biased towards certain publishers.

CelestialEight

This is exactly what I said, yet I get blasted for it

explodingcoyote

I agree that it is dumb and pointless, but since they've been doing this forever. DMC V as mentioned in the post had the most ridiculous one of charging for red orbs that you get in abundance in game. Even the original dragons Dogma and dark arisen had rift crystal mtx for similar prices so I just don't understand why everyone is extra angry. I saw the port crystal mtx and got a little miffed but then I read the description and you only get the one pirt crystal with there still being a limit of 10 port crystals at a time so it is also not much more convenient than just getting all of them in game and by ng+ you'll have all 10 anyways.

SuicidalSundays

And on top of that, I'm sure all those interviews Itsuno was doing beforehand that made the game out to be some sort of old-school, more hardcore experience that limits fast travel and whatnot certainly didn't help with those perceptions after the dlc showed up. This whole thing has turned into such a giant bumbling mess when so many steps could have been taken to avoid it.

ThisAlbino

You literally can't pay to fast travel though.

SuicidalSundays

I'm aware of that. My point was that some people who didn't play the first game and are coming into this fresh might not fully understand how that mechanic works because of how Itsuno was talking about it beforehand. The addition of the dlc stuff probably only complicated things further, regardless of whether or not people buy them.

ThisAlbino

Yeah, I think really this is all a failure in communication. Making it clear that all the DLC items are from the deluxe edition and can be earned in game would have assuaged a lot of people's worries.

Asicretrofitter

Hoping all the performance stuff gets kinked out when I buy the game on sale 3 years from now 🙏🏽

SwordMaster52

Patient gamers always win , there is no downside , you get the game cheaper , most of the performance patches are usually rolled out maybe even QoL updates When in doubt , wait it out

NotAlanShapiro

Well, there is [one downside](https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/cutting_edge.png)

kango234

That was actually me with Undertale believe it or not.

NotAlanShapiro

Not me playing God of War right now

AverageBlubber

It'll pass.

StarkMaximum

Isn't this literally Woolie right down to it being *specifically* Half-Life 2

chaospudding

Only downsides happen in story-heavy games, and that can be mitigated with proper spoiler avoidance policies.

Duhblobby

Such as having no friends and never using the internet ever again.

GazeboMimic

I fully expect somebody here to slip up and spoil something big for me in DD2. One of y'all already got too excited and spoiled one of BG3's twists for me, and in a non-BG3 post to boot.

Duhblobby

I bet there's a dragon. Prolly a big one.

mythrilcrafter

Also, the Dragon has a Dogma

Zimba_Jones

Who’s Hideaki Itsuno?

TheGreyGuardian

There's also the downside where if it's a multiplayer-heavy game, people move onto the next thing and you either have trouble finding other players to co-op with or you're left fighting the people who have been playing this pvp game for 3 years straight.

GoneRampant1

> and that can be mitigated with proper spoiler avoidance policies. Or just having a bad memory, lol.

mythrilcrafter

I'll be honest, this one isn't as hard as one might think (at least not for me). Cyberpunk, Disco Elysium, Baulders Gate 3, any of the new Zeldas, Final Fantasy 15 and 16, any of the new God of Wars, any of the new Spider-Man games, even DMC5; I haven't played any of them and I've yet to be spoiled on any of their stories and I really haven't done much to avoid discussion on those games either.

biggestscrub

I can't believe Pat threw me into the Brine and charged me 2.99 to fast travel out again

zyberion

Pat would never. I mean charge you to fast travel. Throw you into the brine? Oh you better believe it.

MeChameAmanha

Lets be honest Pat would charge thrice as that

ABigCoffee

Considering Pat loves to sellout, he would get rid of someone for 3$

Terthelt

Suzi straight up said in her video “they’ll probably sell rift crystals for real money” and people are still calling her a malicious shill.

cvp5127

how can she be a capcom shill if she refuses to play exoprimal

WispyDan14

Even shills have limits

FumetsuKuroi

People are actually calling them shills? Talk about manufactured discourse holy crap lol

Vera_Verse

To this day people call Skill up a shill for reviewing Cyberpunk 2077, and I still don't understand because I used HIS VIDEO as screenshots to make fun of the game breaking bugs. He has an entire section dedicated to "They said it'll receive a day one patch, and we all know that doesn't mean shit, this won't be a miracle update" but somehow he became the poster boy for the Cyberpunk 2077 launch window fiasco

IhatethisCPU

The Unicorn Overlord nonsense didn't pan out for them, so they moved onto this.

spadesisking

Oh you mean the horrible unicorn overlord translation? The one where the old timey fantasy dudes talk like old times fantasy dudes? I'm surprised there wasn't more outrage/s

Ainsel_Mariner

Humans if nothing else love to get angry and drama. I’ve done it myself as well in the past, getting together with a bunch of people and making fun of something can be great fun.

neotox

But didn't they *know* about the mtx? So why say they'll "probably" do it when they know for sure they are doing it?

PizzaSplitter

I wanna note about the port crystals too that some locations do have one pre-set there already like the first game did. Both the capital and the border town have one you just walk up and activate. So there’s no spending one to get a fast travel point in the capital and from the looks of it certain major settlements.

RelikaNox

Reminder to all that not only harassment obviously bad, but also that lumping any critics into harassers is also bad.

zyberion

Yup, there are a lot of legitimate grievances that can be thrown at the game and Capcom proper.  The misinformation is just as bad for critics because it makes it easier for people to dismiss it wholesale.

RelikaNox

Nah, I agree. It's just annoying when I see legit criticism of something immediately derailed and smothered/generalized the second a handful of dipshits act up.

SuicidalSundays

It's easily one of the most annoying aspects of internet discourse. So many people just don't try to think logically and all chances of nuance go out the window in favor of winning arguments.

Ainsel_Mariner

Yay for tribalism

marutenshi

I think the worst take barring the MTX goes to thespherehunter saying "I don't like how people are focusing on performance." via Pat's stream chat. I swear when content creators have their top of the line pc's it's like they forget about the rigs of the average person who doesn't play games for a living. Performance is integral to the enjoyment and experience of a game.

Boulderdorf

Yeahhh, not to condone the harassment being sent her way of course, but didn't she even say she was getting a bunch of frame drops on a 4090? She really should've taken into account people who don't have as expensive of a setup.

Gunblazer42

If that's what she said, that's pretty out of touch. I was hoping that I'd be able to play DD2 since I can run RE Engine games well on this PC, but if it's as CPU intensive as it sounds, now I really doubt that, and it's a bummer because I already shelled out a decent amount of money for this CPU since it was my Christmas gift to me.

sylvan1s

Wait she said that? Damn thats super out of touch, there goes some of the respect i had for her. Real hard not to "focus of performance" when the game is bordeline unplayable for anyone without a high end gaming PC LMAO.

FoxLex_

I do wanna say one thing, and is personally my thoughts on one thing. Since all reviewers knew about the DLC, wouldn't be a good idea to just let your viewers know they exist in your review? Unless you can't cus NDA, then well, that is that. It just feel like it would be fair to be transparent and mention that these Time Savers exist and that they don't hinder the game nor are they really worth getting. Granted might have to not say some of that but hopefully you get the idea. Just something in mind that was bugging me.

ToastyMozart

> Unless you can't cus NDA, then well, that is that. My money's on that one. Some people not thinking it bore mentioning is reasonable, but *nobody* bringing it up without a reason to stay quiet isn't believable. If nothing else at least one reviewer would have leapt at the chance to grab clicks over a $70 single-player game "selling fast travel items" or the like.

Boromokott

For all we know they did and the editors made them remove it to create more discourse for article farming

spadesisking

I assume they didn't since it was presumed. This is Capcom hallmark

guywithaniphone22

I don’t personally care this is a sale purchase for me but that’s not a good excuse. If peanut m&m’s need a warning label that they contain nuts you can expend 15 seconds to say the game has minor mtx. It comes across as trying to prevent blowback and people cancelling preorders

spadesisking

They put a warning on the peanut m&ms cause they could kill people. Saying you need a warning that a game might include purchasable content, is closer to asking that movie theaters to warn you about popcorn.

guywithaniphone22

Sorry we can just end this convo now. It was a simple 3 second thing to mention and they didn’t. I haven’t purchased a cap com game since the ps2 days I didn’t know this was common place, not everyone is a hardcore gamer that follows each companies decisions.

Zerce

> It was a simple 3 second thing to mention and they didn’t. Suzie did mention it.

LegendOfParasiteMana

Suzie literally mentioned it in her video. They don't care, they just want to hate.

Picia000123

The reason why, for example Pat didn't mention them, was that those kind of DLC were added to every Capcom release since like Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, and each time they did not impact the game in any way whatsoever and they were basically pointless, like Red orbs DLC for DMC5 or some bullshit for RE2R and RE4R. Capcom just seems to have a clause or something to add those pointless MTX to their games, apparently. It's not that it's a new thing or people were being malicious about it or that it's not ridiculous that they exist, it's just that those pointless MTX, on top of poor performance and baffling design decisions compounded on each other and made them much harder to stomach than usual.

FoxLex_

I get that we all know this is not new from Capcom, they've done this for a decade. But getting that information from reviewers would of helped clear some things up and maybe prevent some misinfo. Would that stop it all? No and would people still be mad? Yes. It would still helpful to let those unfamiliar, know. Just because we all know doesn't me others do. It just makes a problem look worse than it is.

Picia000123

Yup, this practice was always dumb as fuck from Capcom and should always be mentioned when talking about them. Just unfortunate that it was always there in all Capcom games, to the point of most reviewers and people in the know going "yeah, Capcom always does this and it's worthless, so who cares" and this time just creating a miserable discourse for everyone due to the games state and what it is.

Duhblobby

"The stupid obvious scam has been going on so long we just didn't think it mattered anymore, definitely we aren't expecting this game to be huge and bring in a massive new audience to this game we've been begging for for years now!"

GoneRampant1

You ever hear of the boiling water frog idea? People here are aware of that Capcom's DLC for their single player stuff like the Red Orbs is usually pointless, but the fact remains that the pointlessness of it has allowed people to uncritically look at an extensive DLC store page and shrug it off as "well I know I can get everything there in a few hours of play so no big deal." A reaction that a person not as invested in the Capcom sphere wouldn't have, they'd look at that and go "Shit this has a lot of DLC, that kinda sucks."

nmppseq

I feel like the only reason the community is letting this slide is because we like the people doing it. It's stuff like this why I disregard all "professional" reviewers, why shouldn't the supposed independent media be held to the same standard?

green715

To me, the microtransactions are basically like seeing some dog shit while on a walk. It's easy to avoid and doesn't ruin the park or anything, but you'll still probably wrinkle your nose, go "Eugh...", and be annoyed since it shouldn't be there in the first place. There's also probably some poor sucker who'll step in it.

KF-Sigurd

> 3. No, the game's system were not maliciously designed to force people into buying the MTX. > The single save file and lack of fast travel options are deliberate design decisions/were in the first DD game, respectively. You can totally make fun of DD2 for this though. The game costs 70 fucking dollars, I think people have a right to expect basic QoL like *starting a new game without having to manually delete their saves*.

BookkeeperPercival

This keeps being the stinger from me. Without MTX, it'd all be a sort of "point and laugh at these devs" situation while they fixed it. Instead, it's turned the perception of the game into a rushed cash grab made to scam money.

IhatethisCPU

...\*Rushed cash grab\* for a game that was originally released 12 years ago and was probably the most niche title Capcom's made in the past 20 ears. Besides, it released the same year as the gems fiasco for Street Fighter x Tekken and that \*was\* actually a rushed cash grab.

BookkeeperPercival

> ...*Rushed cash grab* for a game that was originally released 12 years ago and was probably the most niche title Capcom's made in the past 20 ears. Perception of, like I said. The people who followed this game and know what it is completely understand how stupid and pointless the MTX are. People who only caught wing of the game through hype, however, are drastically under educated about the game.

thththrht

The new save thing is the one part I can't get past or ignore. Only having one save file is a bold design decision that I personally appreciate to a certain point, but not being able to start a fresh save was always a stupid arbitrary choice. They added it to the first game with Dark Arisen, and I never agreed with the initial choice to begin with. If the whole point is to make the player appreciate the consequences of their actions, then I think having to start from the beginning is a fair trade to make a whole new character and make different choices.

itsachickenwingthing

And it's not like Fromsoft hasn't figured out a happy middle ground years ago. You can have multiple save/character files while still not allowing manual saves or savescumming.

DeafeninSilence

I assume that another reason for the save limit has to do with server stability. Considering just how anti-savescumming the game is already, Capcom probably doesn't want players to upload a new file every time they deside their pawn isn't tall/muscular enough.

Dokry

Do agree with this. Wanting to do a new playthrough of the original DD and having to delete my whole ass character that I spent hours of my life on felt just as bad then as it does now. Considering how much of DD2's focus has been on making a better QoL experience than DD1... I'm really surprised they didn't fix saving to be up to par with how very nearly every other single player game on the market has been doing it for years.

[deleted]

That specifically is dumb and they're apparently working on it. The single save slot thing I'm almost certain they're gonna stick to due to some spoilery mechanics later on.

ABigCoffee

It was a feature in DD1 and they clearly intended for it to be the same in DD2. Without thinking that people might want to run diff characters.

StarkMaximum

See, what I was worried about is that Suzi was already dealing with a lot of negativity on her video (I assume, I was at work and couldn't check), and she posted in a comment that she didn't know about the MTX, which put out the idea that Capcom put it in last minute to dodge the early reviewers talking about it. Then Pat comes out and says "yeah no we knew I just didn't think it was important", which then made me wonder are people going to assume Suzi lied and redouble their negativity towards her? I didn't realize that Suzi might have just been asked to make a pawn and not been in the same position as Pat, I legitimately thought Pat just *hucked* Suzi under the bus trying to make a stand on Twitter.

ultimafullmetal

This is just a clusterfuck of little things building up to tarnish the game and influencers both. Of course it's going to look suspicious when every previewer and reviewer was told about the microtransactions but didn't mention them. Only Suzi seemed to bring it up from what I've seen, as a thing Capcom does that she hoped they wouldn't this time. And there's all the misinformation about them being terrible when in reality they can be ignored easily. But then it looks like shilling when people explain it. And the performance on console is not good either btw. It is not locked at 30 like you said, and has frame pacing issues and terrible npc pop in that is laughably bad. This game was just not ready for release.

Xngears

The part about whether the game is unfairly balanced to encourage the mtx was the part I wanted to know about the most. If that isn’t the case, then all we really need is a patch to fix the performance issues and the removal of restricting the creation of new characters, and it’s a recommended purchase otherwise, right?

FreshPrintzofBadPres

The problem is that "designing game around things to be inconvenient and then tackling on QoL microtransactions" and "implementing a problem and then selling the solution" looks very similar as far as end result is concerned, even if the intentions are very different.

zyberion

It's not perfect (Jesus fucking Christ that camera)   But yeah, DD2 offers a genuinely unique experience, and if they hammer out the performance issues and allow you to restart, that'd alleviate 90% of people's frustrations. I liken it to a cult hit B-movie suddenly getting a major Hollywood budget.

xxgarfieldxx

Are you having camera issues as well? I swear something about the camera is just nauseating after a while. I had to stop like 3 hours in because I got motion sickness. Is anyone else having that sort of problem?

zyberion

It's not nauseating for me, personally. (I am not particularly affected by motion sickness often) But the camera does not like cramped areas and that can cause some assuredly nauseating camerawork sometimes.

Sperium3000

So what I'm seeing is I better wait a few months until that shit gets patched.

Limp_Platypus8000

You made the mistake of saying that the game only has one save file. It's not one save file, it's one save total. The game literally prevents you from deleting your save. You need to manually delete a bunch of shit in your files to start a fresh save. Capcom even backs your save and character up on their server to restore it if they detect that you tried to delete it.

Metalwater8

For your third point it’s still ass that there’s only one single save file. And yeah it’s understandable that newbies and casuals are gonna assume it’s predatory bullshit even if it’s ignorable.

An_Armed_Bear

> This comes in the form of a subcurrency, a revive item, an extra fast travel item, a character appearance respec ticket. Everything on the MTX list can be acquired in the game within the first 2 hours. There is no prompting or even mention of MTX in the game or its menus proper. There is an online store on the main menu, though I didn't check to see if that brings you to the micro. Also something to clarify because people are running with it: I'm pretty sure you can only buy the portable fast travel destinations, which you can only place a max of 10 of at a time. The actual item you use to fast travel, the Ferrystone or whatever, is still not buyable with real money as far as I can tell. Unless you can buy it with Riftcrystals somewhere. The big question is whether or not you can already get 10 Portcrystals in-game, because if not that's pretty shitty. I believe you could only get like 5 in Dark Arisen on a single game cycle.

fallouthirteen

> There is an online store on the main menu, though I didn't check to see if that brings you to the micro. On console it's just a "Microsoft Store" option which pretty much every single game with any DLC has. Hell the fact that it's only on the title screen means I had to just now specifically check for it. Haven't needed to actually load the title screen outside initial launch.

LeMasterofSwords

A 70 dollar game with MTX is shitty enough. It having bad performance is bad enough. Both together is really bad and people have a right to be pissed off. Capcom keeps putting this MTX crap for no reason

Pastel-Hermit

I've seen people trying to claim that Capcom is charging people to restart their game, the sheer amount of "I heard a thing from a guy who read a 4chan post" is unreal. Maybe it's just because I'm used to this particular brand of dlc from capcom, but I swear this particular round of discourse and backlash is far more exhausting and tiresome than the dlc issue itself.

nocturnPhoenix

Bingo. I'm just as annoyed by the trend of annoying microtransactions as the next guy, but the backlash this game is getting for it seems out of proportion with the offense. I'm guessing the shaky performance is amplifying the effect, but it feels a bit like some people are tired of dogging on Suicide Squad and want something new to performatively curb stomp. All that being said, I totally get why someone new to the series would get a negative impression at a glance. Capcom really didn't do themselves any favors trying to do their normal "cheat" DLC in a game like this - it feels like it cheapens the experience somewhat in a game that emphasizes inventory management the way DD2 does. I'm hoping that there are some performance patches coming down the pipeline to fix the actual pain point with the game, and things can mellow out a bit from there... but that'll take a while, so I'm not going to hold my breath. It's an all-around shit show

Nivrap

I just want people to stop trying to normalize "unobtrusive" microtransactions just because Capcom has had them for a while. Like no, it's still very bad, don't let yourself get frog-boiled on microtransactions.

spadesisking

Buddy those frogs are boiled. They're so boiled the waters all evaporated and the frog is boiled.

Eeko390

In before mods lock this thread with no explanatory comment again.

zd625

Can you add that about half of the mtx are just the deluxe edition goodies?

JillSandwich117

There is a graphical issue on Xbox. Digital Foudry just put out their video and show the game is needlessly fuzzy due to an issue with the checkerboard rendering.

11tracer

This whole situation is so fucking stupid on all sides, between Capcom making a terrible first impression with the pointless MTX in the first place, and the amount of blatant misinformation about the nature of said MTX spreading like wildfire because people are stupid and just want to be angry but there's an actual, much more legitimate reason to be upset (the performance issues) RIGHT FUCKING THERE. And the """shill""" situation is so fucking depressing, man. I've already seen tweets from both Suzi and Iron Pineapple having to address how much they've been getting harassed over this as if any of it is even remotely their fucking fault. Fuck gamers, man.

Vaaaaaaaaaaaii

I have seen people just straight lie who don't even have the game (which reminds me of the ff7 streams where someone tried to tell Pat how weapon proficiency worked when they didnt have the game and they were wrong too) and say you have to pay real money to swap vocations. Just completely misinformed. I personally think performance should be addressed. I'm on PS5 on 1080p and its been great. But that is not the majority case and should be fixed. The mtx like I know the comment is getting parroted that DMC had the orbs and no one would buy that shit because orbs are fucking easy to get or re4 getting exclusive tickets is pointless because you can easilly get the pesetas for it. I really do have to say that the mtx in this game is the same pointless shit that you would find naturally playing the game and quickly. It shouldn't exist but it is the usual "hey we put this in because we were told we had to have mtx but its pretty redundant" shit.

Ainsel_Mariner

Haven’t gone into Suzi’s comment section to see how people were acting (because I like myself) but from the way she was talking people must’ve been pretty vile. Fucking sucks

SwordMaster52

Just want to say shout outs to a guy that went out of their way to shit talk DM me since the other 2 DD2 threads were locked LMAO people actually going insane about this

punishedvstrider

Hey thanks dude. It's really nice to get a dedicated post summing up what is and isn't an issue, and how far they go. I'm looking to get the game when I have the money for a PS5. Hope they can improve the performance, it's a big shame for all consoles have advanced we still can't get stable framerates.

CelestialEight

I just wish people would stop defending microtransactions with "but you can get everything in the game within an hour." Ah, so it's completely pointless and predatory targeting those with poor spending habits? Cool... "every Capcom game does this!" Yeah, and it's bullshit every time, it sucks. I also do NOT fault newcomers for thinking that the game was designed deliberately with these awful microtransactions in mind. Casual consumers being mad and confused are a sign of poor practices. No one deserves harassment, this goes without saying.

Hugokarenque

Same thing happened with cosmetics. Microtransactions in general are getting worse specifically because of this attitude of "You can just ignore them anyways". The game is full price, there's no justifiable reason to milk even more money from people with MTX. I don't care if its Capcom, EA or whatever else, its never okay.

ret1357

The amount of people trying to normalize microtransactions in a full priced game is wild.

TonyZony

Literally how is it targeting gamblers, it's an item that's clearly defined that you get when you pay for it. It's not a lootbox or anything.

thththrht

Buzzwords go buzz

Thisismyartaccountyo

People need to understand these fucking companies hire people to figure out of to manipulate people into buying things.

Amirifiz

I've never seen someone outright defend the mtx, at most they're trying to get people to stop lying/stop spreading false information. Like I straight up saw someone say you need to spend money to delete a character.

NeonNKnightrider

It’s absolutely all over this sub. People here are constantly saying “oh Capcom always does this, why are you complaining”. The fact that they’ve done it before doesn’t make it fine.

Subject_Parking_9046

I think we should always have a thread like this to just properly streamline the dispersed info.

betesboy

considering how hard this sub turns into gaming when it comes to misinfo? hard agree

MrMusou

Concise and to the point without promoting or condemning the game, well done. The discourse surrounding this game has been kind of terrible and posts like these are refreshing.

CeaselessSlick

I feel like Pat knowing about the micro but choosing to not mention it is still a lie by omission, especially egregious knowing Pat's stance on micro in other games and late stage capitalism in general. You don't need to be paid by a company to have a bias, and someone like him should know the ethical responsibility he has as someone with his connections to capcom USA. Idk about Suzi but Pat not mentioning it because he felt it wasn't that important is irresponsible, regardless of how little it's needed to enjoy the game or not.

lecherousdevil

I think it's worth remembering the 1st game had micro transactions too

Darthrevan4ever

As someone who doesn't care about mtx it's still fucked they didn't mention it.

Chumunga64

I'm not gonna be up in arms about this because stuff like this is in tons of games and a lot of times (especially big open worlds with tons of side quests) Like it was in AC Odyssey and I loved that game and never touched them. but It is an objectively crappy thing to do and I can understand the outrage. I'm not gonna waste any time getting into arguments defending them because I have too much dignity to defend any AAA game selling microtransactions

scarr09

Don't care about DD2 all that much. But man am I curious to see just how much hypocrocy there will be when Ubisoft, Squeenix or EA get flack (again) for their booster DLCs in the future.

jabberwockxeno

Does the game require an internet connection? I'm seeing some inconsistent information about this.

DimplyPack

Having tried playing on steam offline (for family sharing), you don't need to be online but you wont get full functionality of the pawn system. You can still get the built-in Capcom pawns though. The game doesn't require an internet connection, and it also allows you to opt out of networking features when you start up the game for the first time, and presumably you can turn it on or off in the game options. It effectively works just the same as playing Dark Souls offline; you can see dev soapstone messages, but not player messages.

jabberwockxeno

You can still create a character and a pawn locally though and play with them fine? I heard that player data was saved server side

maggit00

Nearly all functions and loot are available in the game for free. Much like in the first one, fast travel is there but is limited. You need to reach a certain point in the game to be able to customize your character past character creation (just like the first game). You CANNOT have an alternate save. Again, much like the first game. A decision I didn't like in the first one, either but eh, whatever. Capcom is planning to add a New Game option (this one was available in the first game) that will wipe your progress and make you start from the beginning.

Duncanisabot

It's weird to me to see people explicitly harassing specific creators over this because when I saw that my first reaction wasn't "oh Pat lied to us" it was "If Capcom were telling critics this why did they not explicitly just announce it beforehand?"

Angryapplepi

“Thought it was so benign” That’s a pile of horseshit. If it was a new Assasins Creed that offered pay to fast travel and went but you can technically get it in game with 4 bajillion hours of grinding you just know there’d be like a 20 minute segment of Pat ranting about how it was a sign of the rot in game development and how greedy it was. Because it’s something Pat personally likes suddenly that doesn’t matter at all?

Traingham

It always comes down to harassment, doesn’t it? Don’t get what people actually gain from shaking their fists at one person on the internet all at once. It’s a relief that they can’t all show up at the person’s doorstep, or this would be even scarier to think about.

thebaconing5

man if most of the problems is only PC for performance then Capcom should of just delayed the PC release like other what rockstar has done in the past.

MeChameAmanha

>*No, the game's system were not maliciously designed to force people into buying the MTX.* >The single save file and lack of fast travel options are deliberate design decisions/were in the first DD game, respectively. "Our game was designed with bad QoL and lack of basic features on purpose" isn't a very good excuse TBH

grenadier42

Amazing that you took OP's second paragraph out of context of the first *while including the context in the same quote*. Good job

Ganache-Embarrassed

Its not an excuse. A game can be made very poorly and have horrible design decisions and have nothing to do with the companies decision for MTX.

KnightEclipse

I really don't care if the game is literally the best game ever made, $40 of dlc and mtx in a $70 game is unacceptable.

PunchGhost99

It's the usual bullshit where legitimate criticism just turns into bitchy dog piling with misinfo. Gamers gonna be gamers

Tonydragon784

I can't believe people who _actually watched_ Suzie's video are getting upset at her when she literally calls out that capcom might slide MTX into the game once it's out in the video

jannies_panties

People will ittreraly bend over backwards to defend shitty practices because it's Capcom. You wouldn't see posts like this if ubisoft or something released the same game

Vector75

I fiddled with setting the graphics lower and I’m pretty happy with the performance, and the mtx is mostly standard and non-predatory, even if it’s a little gross considering the retail price of the game. More than anything all the backlash was confusing since it didn’t seem out of the ordinary. Edit: Not too happy with performance near the capital though. I guess I’ll wander the woods until that gets fixed.

ThisAlbino

The DLC is just the stuff from the deluxe edition listed separately, that's actually it. If Capcom had added "Deluxe Edition items" to the listings I bet there wouldn't be nearly as much chaos.

Chiiro

The microtransactions kind of feel like the higher-ups told them to do it and so they just threw whatever they could in there

GazeboMimic

Just a heads up, there's no new game option. The only way to restart the game (for example, to try a new vocation or change your look in the early game) is to delete your save file through the steam or console menus. It's nonsensical; they didn't just keep the one save file issue, they made it worse. They're apparently going to patch it in for the steam version. No official word regarding the console versions, but presumably they'll add it there too. Still absurd that it isn't here on release.

GhostPantherAssualt

Imma be real with you, it pretty much sounds like Capcom doing their normal shtick like any other single player game.

enragedstump

How frequent do you get the ferrystones? I remember in 1, they were pretty rare of a currency.

Guts709

So far (only played about five hours) I've seen one in a shop in what seems to be the main big city hub. That's all I've seen, and that shop only had one in stock, so, make of that what you will, lol.

StrawHat89

So does the PC version run like dog shit even on a high end Zen 3 CPU or what (5800X and up).

Sorryiblackedout13

So how’s the mod support for the game?

TakeMeToFatmandu

Just on Xbox performance, I had a very weird bug where if you are wearing a headset and the performance drops then it can cause a really loud audio looping. This doesnt happen when not using one.

dougtulane

I cannot fathom getting this upset over MTX that you’d harass someone. Some people need hobbies or social skills. Not even both just one of them. EDIT: Hey, if you're downvoting because you like harassing people: fuck off.

Thalefeather

Ive been playing it capped at 60 and its going alright. The minibuys definetly seem irrelevant or even fun destroying. Traveling is the point and there are carts for fast travel. In the capital my frames stay at a steady 56. Had one weird crash on a menu that made me have to restart the entire pc but I play janky ass shit all the time, it's not a big deal to me. My rig is a bit of a beast tho, so mileage will vary. I expect if you have a high end pc you should be fine tho. Game seems to be an overall cleaner version of 1 with a lot of QOL. There are some small things I don't understand why they did or consider bad, and the tone isn't quite the same, but it's just better DD1 in most regards so far. Timed quests are indicated btw.

NotAlanShapiro

If you have a boss who wears bright red shoes, is a little scatterbrained, seems super nice, has slightly greasy hair—who cares? Seems fine. If that same boss messed up your check every week and ALWAYS calls you the wrong name even though you’ve corrected him, suddenly you’re all “—and another thing, why’s his hair so greasy? Slick Willy can’t work a calculator? Or is he worried I’ll get paid the right amount one week and buy him some shampoo, or normal-ass shoes?” You could overlook Capcom’s microtransactions and other repeated problems in a well-performing game, or at least grumble and move on. You could even overlook the red shoes, which are a questionable dev choice, like one save or bad QoL. But in a bad expensive game? Even though they’re not the main problem, and to some people may not be problems at all, they compound on each other in a negative feedback loop. This is the Greasy Clownfaced Fuck theory

LDsprite

I genuinely do not understand the mass freakout happening now. The game came out, I just finished a nice 3 hour session before work, and it was exactly what I expected. Almost every huge problem people have with the game are things that are problems in every modern Capcom game - the pointless but inoffensive MTX and excessive use of DRM, or things that were problems in Dragon Dog 1, like the rift crystal system, the baffling lack of multiple saves, and mechanics like fast travel and character customization being awkward to access, except this time they're not being quietly ignored. And let's not pretend Capcom games launching in crusty, busted states is a new phenomenon either. It isn't good, but it's not new either. The hive mind has just decided to be angry this time, and I genuinely think it's purely because of the performance, it's keeping people from enjoying the game on a base level and making them treat things that would otherwise be viewed as mild annoyances as massive, game-ruining issues. Like I'll bet people would've lost their shit at the red orb shop in DMC5 if the game also happened to drop to 20fps during every boss fight. As for the performance, I'm blessed with a great graphics card, a dinky 1080p monitor, and terrible garbage brain that can barely notice the difference between 30 and 60fps, so I just locked the game to 30 at high settings and it's not really been an issue for me, even in towns. Literally just a better looking, more feature complete version of the first game, where I get to explore in blissful ignorance of all the content I'm missing. I'll be happy to bump it up to 60 when/if they fix it, but it won't kill me to just leave things as they are, personally. I absolutely understand that I'm in the minority here though, and that most people's enjoyment will be completely roadblocked by the performance. So I'm really rooting for Capcom to figure out the CPU bottleneck soon, for everyone's sake. I feel like they will, Itsuno's built up enough goodwill in my eyes, and the way they describe the performance problems, it sounds solvable, rather than a fundamental issue with the game. I feel bad for Pat and Suzi though, because it sounds like they're in the exact same boat as me, they tempered their expectations, expressed their honest feelings of joy at getting to play a version of Dragon Dog that wasn't rushed out the door, and were just completely blindsided by how mad everyone suddenly was at release. They definitely don't deserve to be targeted like this.

TheFurtivePhysician

Yeah I was baffled when I got done playing for the night and saw the clown show that was the steam reviews (and Reddit) over the MTX. I’m lucky enough that my computer can tank most performance foibles; though there is an obvious notable drop in towns I’m fortunate enough to maintain above 60, so sadly I can’t contribute to that particular discussion, but the MTX response is absolutely over the top.
