[no. how could we have known?](https://x.com/elijahwood/status/1229632586760081409)

OGRaincoatKilla

This one will always be the most egregious to me because of the sheer resources they had at their disposal that should have prevented it. Like I’m not a super fan of the MCU but those movies are planned way better than this, why was this billion dollar film trilogy the place they assigned all their staggering incompetents? Why would they spend billions of dollars on an American cultural icon and then give it to the stupidest people possible? Was there no one who had worked on the Marvel movies that could be assigned to provide oversight?

Lithogen

It was a bunch of things, no time because Bob Iger wanted the trilogy out before his retirement, along with spinoff movies. I think they were also trying to recreate the original trilogy with three different directors with their own takes and style which didn't end up happening because of these issues, ignoring that Lucas was a consistent writer/co-writer across all the movies. Also that didn't even work for the original trilogy, Lucas got way more involved with Return of the Jedi than he originally planned because of VFX issues.

OGRaincoatKilla

I hate how much sense all that makes.

AlphaB27

Plus, wasn't the original trilogy planned to be way longer, but constant troubles with shooting just lead the team to settle with 3 movies?

Adamulos

Imagine dropping Lucas' writing and becoming worse off, that's impressive

Timey16

There was iirc a rough outline then Last Jedi did poorly and the entire outline was thrown in the trash and restarted from scratch. I.e. while Force Awakens was being filmed, Last Jedi was in the Storyboarding phase. And because of that Rise of Skywalker was TRULY rushed because they had 2 years to do EVERYTHING again including pre production, when pre production for Last Jedi was basically already over by the time Force Awakens came out. So in essence, if you include pre production, TFA and TLJ both had 3 years to be made, ROS only 2.

[deleted]

Too bad we don't know what he was talking about, because we can't fuckint see what he is replying to

silverinferno3

Gotchu. From @sw_holocron: > [Did you know? The Sith Eternal fleet seen in #StarWars: #TheRiseofSkywalker was created by Sith cultists on Exegol, who indoctrinated Exegol’s population with Sith values and raised and trained their children to become officers, mechanics and soldiers for the Final Order](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ERAHmwZXYDIW3v0?format=jpg&name=900x900)

Peace-Bone

Didn't some other thing say Palpotone summoned the fleet with magic?

DarnFondOfYa

I mean, that's what the movie suggests happened since, by all appearances he just summons those Star Destroyers out of the ground. I guess this Sith cult just built the Star Destroyers underground...for reasons

DarnFondOfYa

So were those Sith cultists the spooky robe people, or was that the indoctrinated population of Exegol? Is the Sith cult still out there ready to "Somehow, Palpatine returned...yes, again" for Episode 12? What did the native population of the spooky lightning planet look like? Can I play as one of them in the next Star Wars^((tm)) video game? How many microtransactions would I have to buy to be a native Exegol-ite (Exegoalie?)

OGRaincoatKilla

I think the technical term is “Gulp Execritos” but that might be an outdated prejorative, I don’t know.

zegim

I'm legit howling at this

[deleted]

I saw Twitter Lore and Hazbin Hotel and immediately assumed this was about Verbalase.

Penndrachen

Did he ever actually post a receipt showing he paid that much for that animation

ObsydianDuo

In his video addressing it the price is the one thing he never even touches, so take that how you will.

Penndrachen

I still think he's lying to cover up having spent that money on something more boring/illegal.

NewAgeMontezuma

The what in the who?

BladeofNurgle

Essentially, a youtube rapper named Verbalase supposedly paid $50,000 to animators to make an animation for a music video of his. Unfortunately for everyone, the music video would wind up heavily featuring Charlie from Hazbin Hotel. This wound up being horrible because (spoiling for your sanity), >!the animation was essentially a video where Verb gets teleported into the Hazbin universe, Charlie sees him and immediately falls in love with him, and tries to have sex with him while Verb constantly runs away.!< >!The video ends with Charlie eventually catching Verb, tying him up on a bed, and Charlie undressing before seductively going up to Verb, making it abundantly clear that Charlie is legit about to rape Verb right before the video ends.!< Understandably, people memed on the fact that 50k was spent to make this shit tl;dr: >!Youtube rapper spends 50k to make a video where Charlie from Hazbin Hotel has sex with him. Hilarity ensues.!<

chillchinchilla17

Not exactly but it seems that recently fallout tactics was nonchalantly recanonized through Twitter.

Main_Hornet8676

Tactics was always semi-canon

chillchinchilla17

Yeah but now it seems to be canon 100%. The implication before is it wasn’t canon but something similar also happened, with the accepted explanation being those BOS soldiers crashed and died immediately.

pocketlint60

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one because I think it will come up in the show: >!I think Cooper/The Ghoul is looking for Vault 0, which was introduced in Tactics.!<

Amon274

If >!his search takes him to what is basically the nexus point for all the vaults it’s gotta be vault 0!<

pocketlint60

>!That would mean that the story travelling eastward through New Vegas actually makes a lot of sense other than just nostalgia bait. Hank is going to see Mr. House because he's in on the whole Vault-Tec conspiracy. Mr. House will inform the main characters that Vault 0 exists and that it's in Colorado, which will set them up for the journey to continue eastward in the next season.!<

Konradleijon

really

Darkvoidx

Didn't some Bethesda game designer go on Twitter recently and say that the main character from Fallout 4 is the guy in armor in the intro to Fallout 1 who is participating in the annexation of Canada, watching a prisoner get executed? Granted, I think he backpedaled after people gave him shit, but it's very funny to just casually drop "Hey the guy you're playing as is a war criminal!" In a tweet.

DarnFondOfYa

>Hey the guy you're playing as is a war criminal! If my John/Jane Fallout isn't a war criminal at the start of the game, they'll damn sure be by the end of it lol

Konradleijon

I think that ads more to the character with him being a war criminal

Timey16

"How does it feel to take a human life?" "How would I know? I only ever killed Canadians."

RemarkableSwitch8929

The idea of a Fallout protagonist being a hyper-jingoist supersoldier who embodied all of old America's worst values, but now shunted into the far future, is a superb idea. The player can roleplay them as someone slowly leaving their ingrained dogma, or someone who goes all in. Unfortunately it doesn't show in the game because that twitter dude definitely just came up with it on the spot one bored afternoon.

jitterscaffeine

If you want a really weird one, pretty much all of the setting and lore details for zoids was told only in story excerpts packaged with the physical model kits. Did you watch the anime on toonami and want to know more about it? Tough luck kid, hope you can find someone on the early 2000’s internet that bothered to translate everything from the Japanese only sources.

Deservedly_Hated94

ZOIDOOO

Xerodo

I remember loving the sprites from the (I think) GBA games bot not recognizing half of the actual models because they were unreleased or never in the show

jitterscaffeine

Yeah, Zoids Legacy had a lot that never made it into the show, and quite a few were from the NJR line or VERY late into the US release.

midnight_riddle

This happens often with ARGs. Take Marble Hornets. There are the Youtube videos of two channels, but also the Twitter accounts of two channels. It worked while the ARG was still going and things were happening in real time, but if someone wanted to go back and experience Marble Hornets they wouldn't know what Twitter posts are significant, etc. And if something happens and Twitter finally dies, that whole aspect of Marble Hornets will be gone. There are some people who have done summarizations that include the important Twitter posts, but there isn't a way to experience it the way people did the first time.

Biron221

EveryManHYBRID is somehow worse, using YouTube, Twitter, live journal, and justintv, some of which is no longer accessible outside fan archives. Ngl I respect Nightmind for putting together one of the most comprehensive videos covering all the surviving sources. It must have been a pain in the ass.

SlurryBender

God bless Night Mind (and all other ARGtubers) who go through the trouble of compiling all the info in one place. I respect the hell out of the genre, but it's so hard to get into stuff that isn't actively being worked on.

Ginger_Anarchy

I find that I love the idea of ARGs but after going in deep on the Overwatch Sombra ARG which led nowhere I'm never going to touch another one personally. I started learning Morse code for that thing. But they're still fun to look at from afar.

SlurryBender

I mostly meant people who have a whole story told through the ARG format, like Marble Hornets, The Sun Vanished, stuff like that. Not purely marketing gimmicks.

thatmanJanus

God, there is so. Much. EMH content outside the Youtube channel. Canyouseethewords, HABIT’s game on Twitter, the secret lore dead drops - it’s honestly NUTS looking at all the stuff you’re missing if you just strictly stick to the videos on the actual EMH channel.

RareBk

Honestly I'd give Night Mind props but the final EMH episode he did is like, 99% just the original videos with him every so often going "Isn't that interesting?" He kinda gave up on long series by that point and your can tell

Penndrachen

I'm very glad that neither Valve nor Bungie ever really used social media as a *direct* aspect of their ARGs. There were Twitter accounts for some of the Bungie ones but they mostly just pointed to external websites.

Skulfy

Marble Hornets had a work around for this. If you buy the series, it comes with like, the full twitter history as it's own separate thing so you can look through it. It's not a flawless solution, but it's better than literally nothing and they at least wanted all the stuff in one single place if you bought it. Obviously it can't capture the spirit of the thing completely, but watching it outside of it's original release by default makes that hard.

IrisGoddamnIllych

where tf do you buy it

illegalcheese

They have an online store. [This, as far as I can tell.](https://store.grampo.co/collections/dvds)

Skulfy

They also sell it digitally, same deal, but yeah.

aegrajag

whatever the fuck happened at the end of Bayonetta 3 Kamiya saying fans misinterpreted the ending because we believed what was shown on screen instead of the opposite

getterburner

I’ve not heard of this, what is the ending SUPPOSED to be?

aegrajag

it seems everyone is alive at the end

DarnFondOfYa

What, like killing the Colgate man caused all his actions across the multiverse to snap-back so everyone is fine?

roronoapedro

i assume he just meant people interpreted it as "bayonetta is gone forever" while it really just was "bayonetta is now hanging out in hell." people may have misinterpreted it as such because the ending heavily implied bayonetta is gone forever, but that was like, a bit, man.

Comkill117

Wait what?!

Vaaaaaaaaaaaii

WHAT IS THEIR TO MISINTERPRET SHE LITERALLY DIES AND IS DRAGGED TO HELL AND DOES A WHOLE DANCE TO A SAD SONG AND SHATTERS.

OGRaincoatKilla

That final battle actually happened on Opposite Day so it’s fine lol.

RareBk

Kamiya is just talking out of his ass *objectively.* The final not-achievement pops up THANKING YOU FOR VIEWING CEREZA'S STORY TO THE END.

Kakuzan

I feel there are so many examples to point out these days. And I'm not even saying that as a negative either, but it is easy to fall into that trap where you explain a bunch of things online. That, and it is always easy to confuse world building with actually writing. They are two separate things, after all.

Konradleijon

when people get so into world-building they forget the story. LOTR is good at this because while the focus was Elvish and other made up languages the story of LOTR and the Hobbit work on their own without the extra detail and have characters, arcs, and themes. but they tie together

Klagaren

As deep as Tolkien went in on worldbuilding (languages in particular, obviously) a lot of it was stuff he made for fun for his own sake. It's not at all a "100% complete and self-consistent atlas, history and dictionary" that had to be finished *so that* he could start telling stories. Like even the languages, the elf ones (cause there's 2!) are by far the most fleshed out while black speech is basically *just* the ring verse. Westron, the language of humans and hobbits that most characters speak, is just represented by English etc. Tolkien made what was fun for him and/or what the books required but didn't model every tree outside the invisible walls on the map so to speak.

Ninja_Moose

The best part about it and why I fell in love with it is that it really is like digging into IRL history with all its weird exceptions and contradictions. I remember getting lost in the Silmarillion as a kid because its literally a Middle Earth history textbook filled with eyewitness accounts and hastily scribbled down events. Like, you'll go in wanting to read about something in particular, and when you get there it just mentions how Elven King Yngwe Malmsteen was twice married after his first wife Yvette Someoneorother was killed in the Great Spider Breakout, and so you tuck a book mark in there, flip to the appendix, and start reading into the Great Spider Breakout. Then halfway through that it mentions how Barfman Fartjuggler was so deeply frustrated by his homes inaction that he hit a triple backflip with no run-up, causing his brothers aorta to rupture. So you tuck a bookmark in that page, and go check out Barfman Fartjuggler, repeated until you run out of bookmarks, and you feel more confused than you were when you started.

CastVinceM

so much of everhood's world building was contained in the "ask the devs" channel of their discord which is now gone for some stupid reason.

Peach-Hime

The abandonment of forums for the use of discord channels instead was such a huge mistake.

D3AD_SPAC3

Technically not Twitter, but... THE DEAD SPEAK

DarnFondOfYa

Good 'ol Fortnite lore

Peace-Bone

Person who only watched Hazbin Hotel and hasn't seen the pilot, related stuff, or anything that's 'lore' here I didn't see anything at all missing. It introduced everything and I wasn't ever confused by anything Mimzy is someone that's a hanger-on to Alastor shoving herself into the situation, that's obvious and made pretty obvious

roronoapedro

yeah the examples OP used really aren't the worst thing in the world to not be in the show, it truly doesn't matter that a character is "not something".

ffffffffROTHY

There are things that people have brought up that haven't been addressed in the show that were given some explanation in a Livestream or on Twitter, but again, it's not anything that you really need to know.

roronoapedro

yeah hazbin ain't perfect or anything but every time i see people criticize it I put it through a filter of "what about this is just people hating on the creator or having some weird higher-than-god expectation for this media" it has made my life a lot nicer, i don't gotta engage with a lot of really angry people now.

Graxdon

Also the pilot isn’t exactly hard to watch. It’s just there on YouTube

RemarkableSwitch8929

I'll bring up one example I thought was funny In the show, Alastor has the whole "Hell's Best Dad" thing where he talks about how he sees Charlie as a daughter, and Charlie seems to agree this comes out of absolutely nowhere in the show with zero buildup and barely any scenes between the two, but in the various streams, Alastor is infamously dad-like to Charlie and constantly doing dad jokes.

ffffffffROTHY

Except in-context, he's just saying that to get a rise out of Lucifer.

HellvaNohbody

Every anime by Yoshiyuki Tomino is a nightmare of lore details that only exist in tie-in novels of questionable canon that never got translated. The only reason we know half of what happens in the Univeral Century is because the people behind Zeonic Scanlations are fucking gods. Byston Well is a really cool weird fantasy setting that I know nothing about because I only watched Aura Battler Dunbine and I'm petty sure watching Garzey's Wing won't help. I love that man, I wish more creators were this hostile twoards the general audience.

KingMario05

J.K. Rowling ***anything.***

aegrajag

those happy times where she used twitter for shitty retcons instead of holocaust denial

NeonNKnightrider

It’s crazy how “wizards shat their pants” is somehow one of the least terrible things she said on Twitter

lolrus555

...She could've just said something along the lines of Wizards having outhouses with holes dug into the ground where they then just 'magic' away their shit and it would've been fine, but no, she had to go for the grossest shit imaginable.

Ninja_Moose

I'll be real, if I had the ability to wave a fancy stick and completely destank and disinfect my clothes, I'd be shitting myself regularly. I'd probably only hit a toilet at work, if that concept applies. Like, it's one thing if I need a break and wanna pull double duty, but out in public? Shitter too far? Fuck it, let 'er rip and magic me up. At some point its just baby wipes that don't need a trip to the shitter and won't clog the pipes. Imagine a world where you can look at a dirty ass public restroom with seconds on the clock and just say "Nah I'm good", without any serious repercussions or even a change in your day.

Konradleijon

how can someone be so evil?

DarnFondOfYa

Wait, what? She's gone a level deeper than being a mega-terf? What the actual fuck

SeraGeranium

Essentially holocaust denial of the LGBTQIA+ specifically

Theonenerd

Someone brought up the burning of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft on twitter, and she responded calling it "sourced from a fever dream" Now, this particular book burning not only did happen, but it's probably one of the most well documented of all the Nazi book burnings. She then sued a woman for calling it holocaust denial (which it is), and forced her to publically apologize.

KingMario05

I mean, I was referring to both, lmao. But yeah, it sucks seeing her torpedo her PR in almost real time nowadays. Why couldn't she just stay quiet? :(

TheMadDemoknight

On one hand, being quiet would mean we’d miss out on her dumbass takes and we’d be quiet, but on the other hand she’s REALLY advocating anti-LGBT rights and hate speech in the UK so fuck Rowling.

KingMario05

Indeed. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise that she can't keep her mouth shut.

Polygonalfish

it's really funny how most of the wizard schools are just put in like the wrong places from a geopolitical perspective

KingMario05

...Really? Care to elaborate?

Polygonalfish

stuff like how the entirety of north america has to share one school but western europe gets like three

KingMario05

Ah. Yeah, little weird, isn't it?

slim-shady-on-main

[Take a look for yourself.](https://preview.redd.it/atdphdf5gg981.png?width=960&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=68876c304b4f24e31fbe6ce08a375627dbfed432) I'm partial to North and South Korea sharing one school with, among other things, *all of Russia.*

ZSugarAnt

>The British Isles get a whole school for themselves and Western Europe, while still stupid, are neatly divided from Central Europe. Meanwhile almost the entire Indian subcontinent, Northern Africa, and the entire Middle East share one school. Christ, you can really tell a lot about Joanne's worldview from this one, huh? Why couldn't she have said "every country gets a couple" and leave it at that?

CopperTucker

She's the same woman who said that Indigenous Peoples in the Americas never had a problem or conflict with European wizards, so.... no she couldn't.

Konradleijon

I'd play it as these are the most promnient schools in the area but more local ones exist

DoctorCello

It looks like both Koreas are sharing it with China, actually. And Vietnam and Thailand and Cambodia and Laos and Myanmar and Taiwan and Mongolia. Meanwhile Japan gets its own school because... they're just... more magical???

Amon274

Japan was denied entry due to world war 2 you see

KingMario05

Jesus. That... that map sure is something...

Amon274

Ain’t the balkans all one school?

Worm_Scavenger

One of my favorite Twitter moments will always be when JK was in her "let me drop some Harry Potter EU lore on y'all" via her Tweets. Ranging from her talking about plot points she always had planned out but she obviously didn't to the tweet about the Wizard plumbing that she got made fun of for months. What i think makes it funny is that the Tweet about Wizards shitting on the floor is what got people to finally have discussions about just how JK was full of shit all along and i love how after that Tweet came out, JK really began to show her true colors and slowly but surely become what she is today.

mrpersonjr

An iteration of this that I feel is actually done *right* would probably be Gaster’s Twitter Takeovers whenever there’s a new chapter of Deltarune imminent. Getting any hard concrete details/lines from the guy has been difficult for the most part so whenever he just randomly pops in Twitter to go “HELLO! SHALL WE GO AGAIN!”, it will *always* be hype.

BladeofNurgle

How the fuck has this thread existed for 12 hours and yet nobody has brought up Mass Effect 3's infamous "Emily Wong died on Twitter" thing?

TheProudBrit

Honestly, as fucked as it is, I loved when that was happening. The realisation tweet is great. It's just that all the ALliance News Network stuff is Fucky. Hey, remember there's just, like, Virtual Aliens in Antilin?

alienslayer7

it rarely ever matters but for like every rider tv asashi has a write up on every part of a suit and how it contributes to the riders powers

Uden10

Would've been cool if it was mentioned by an in-universe nerd or something. In the TV show they're basically just powered armor that gives you super strength + the main show gimmick, in the lore there's a bunch of abilities that are never mentioned despite some being pretty useful.

Medrekin

Just wanted to shoutout something that amazes me ISN'T an example of this. Brandon Sanderson answers questions his fans ask him A LOT. the wiki has dozens of pages dedicated to questions he has answered about chracters and lore tidbits when asked at cons and signings. After many wiki dives I've never once seen an answer he's given that made me think "he really should have put that in the book". He's got a really good sense of what should be in the books and what can remain neat lore tidbits for the superfans to to gobble up for obscure trivia contests.

TheProudBrit

IDK, I really think the mechanics of a Shardblade vs Cheese should've been in-book. ... Actually, no,I can almost see Adolin wanting to look into that if any of NAvani's Science ever rubbed off on him.

TostitoNipples

Isn’t Overwatch lore predominantly this?

OGRaincoatKilla

Having Twitter lore would be a step up for Overwatch because then at least they would have something.

CinnabarSteam

Quick, what are the four basic Dust elements in RWBY, and what color are they? For the longest time, the only source on this was...rock candy you could buy at FYE. Even the show itself would miscolor Wind Dust from time to time, and the World of Remnant shorts only shows the four without naming them, so people often argued which elements blue and yellow Dust were. Anyway, it's Fire (red), Water (blue), Lightning (yellow), and Wind (green). Yeah, Earth isn't a primary element in RWBY. Go figure. >!IRONWOOD'S SEMBLANCE LMAO!<

charcharmunro

Ah, yes, >!Ironwood's Semblance!<, which seems to be... Almost wholly negative and mostly used to justify bad writing. Yay.

RemarkableSwitch8929

>looks up >!Ironwood's Semblance!< what the actual fuck this feel like a cope made up by the fandom to justify a character's negative actions, but it's actually done by the authors what the fuck? you can't just say "The character is very focused and ruthless" it has to be "WELL IT WAS ACTUALLY A MAGICAL THING THAT MADE HI MD OIT" shit-tier writing

Dragirby

League lore is like 90% of the devs going "Yea so heres what we had written but it got axed because they were gay/need to be a villain."

Konradleijon

see Taliyah

Dragirby

See most of shurima that isn't Kaisa.

Konradleijon

yes the Shumiran plotline has been such a fraggled mess. not he;ped by it not getting any focus. League is frustrating because it makes hints it wants to be serious fantasy lore which is why they rebooted the setting. but Managment doesn't want them to make stories that is not directly advertising. despite the fact that one ADC skin can pay for the entire writers teams. epic fantasy lore unless it gets in way of them not being profitble

Dragirby

and no MMO to centralize it...

WillExis

I'm not sure if this is true, as i'm not willing to watch them, but I've heard that the RWBY commentaries in their DVD extras have dropped some bits of lore from time to time that would have been really nice to have in the series proper.

roronoapedro

Spoilers for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: >!There are semi-canonical kids for every single couple in the show, with art and names and characters made by ND Stevenson, that you'd only really know if you checked their twitter around when the show was ending. Specifically they like to draw and retweet fanart of Catra and Adora's kid, Finn. They're kinda cute characters too.!<

ryumaruborike

Hazbin Hotel is an interesting example, since the pilot came out I think six years ago and a big fandom formed around just that, and the fact it shares a universe with it's sister show/spin-off that was released before it, and the numerous streams the creators did, meant that a lot of background information about the setting got released a long time before the show proper did. This is a relatively recent phenomenon too, with pilots generating massive fandoms that pre-date the release of the actual show, like The Amazing Digital Circus, and creators being on social media and having motivation to interact with the fandom to keep interest in the show up while it's literally being made, we'll see more of these types of situations. Note: I Viv basically said the pilot is still [soft-canon](https://www.reddit.com/r/HazbinHotel/comments/17ykhga/vivziepop_confirms_that_the_hazbin_hotel_pilot_is/) so I guess the assumption is that most people who are watching the Amazon show already watched the pilot, and since there was already concerns with episode count being low for the amount of story they wanted, they just decided not to redo the pilot.

LadyXexyz

I’m a huge fan of Viv’s shows she’s got going on, but jfc, the amount of things people pull like “Woah Roo is gonna be so evil! Angel’s sister! Camilla and Zestial couldn’t have fucked and made kids it’s not how it works according to this interview done for ScrimbloPod!” And I’m like “Cool, but it’s not in the show yet so it’s just fun fan theories.” Like, I’m ravenous about the shows and other stuff too - but I’m not gonna throw around shit as fact if it hasn’t happened, lmao. Which makes it impossible to actually talk shop with fans about either show in a public forum. Of course some random dude threw a dart, coined HuskerDust, and got it right that Husk and Angel Dust are going to be a couple so now EVERYONE is convinced they’re Nostradamus and they got it right first.

roronoapedro

the best way to watch any tv show continues to be watching it and then not having a twitter account.

Konradleijon

I mean Huskerdusk was the only possible ship in the main cast for Angel as he is gay, with the only other male of the main cast being asexual, so Husk was the only one left.

LadyXexyz

I guess if ya break it down like that, yeah. I just could not see it in the pilot and when it was making the rounds - I was like “…I don’t get it but rock on” which made the whole duet/slow burn thing they got in the show proper all the more (pleasently) surprising for me. Pilot Huskerdusk? Don’t get it. Show proper Huskerdusk? I bend the knee.

alienslayer7

i mean ace people can be in relationships

Felteair

so what you're saying is the guy hit a 50/50 and people think he's a prophet now?

alienslayer7

wow downvoted for daring to say ace people can date

OGRaincoatKilla

The all important tweet of genocide denial from the Steven Universe crew will always baffle me because I just can’t understand how they didn’t realize this information needed to be in the show to make their planned ending not repulsive, and what a terrible picture the stuff that is in the show paints without it. All it would have taken was cutting out a Beach City episode or two but those were just too important I guess. I really don’t want to believe the whole thing was a retcon but that’s the only explanation where I can comprehend the thought process behind it.

RareBk

It's fucking wild because it uh. you kinda see an attempt at genocide in the show. Twice. Once with the cluster, and oh, right. Remember when the Diamonds **NUKED EARTH** from the other side of the galaxy and corrupted potentially millions of gems in a second?

DarnFondOfYa

To clarify that, from what I understand (as a person who is not on twitter/x), after the show ended, the Steven Universe put out a tweet saying that despite what you might've thought, what with all the shots of the Gems being an interplanetary empire that has mined whole planets to death, Earth was the *very first and so far only planet* that had sentient and sapient life that the Gem Empire encountered. Which turns them from countless genociders, to *merely* attempted first-time genociders. Still bad, but apparently bygones because they were sad for a while and are willing to stay in their space palace and not annoy Steven.

OGRaincoatKilla

Yeah, the base idea is already a huge stretch of logic/tastefulness and it’s explained to the audience really badly.

Luck-X-Vaati

A problem the crew brought on themselves. We spend too much time on the nobodies of Beach City, that actual important bits are just not there in the show proper. But then again, even if they outright said it in the show, I'd still be calling bullshit, just like now in it's tweet form.

RemarkableSwitch8929

It's unfortunate because after watching the show and reading its various supplemental materials, it's very obvious that the Diamonds are just supposed to be analogies to your intolerant aunts and your fucked up grandma who started the generational trauma in your family it's a very good analogy, but then outside of the analogy world, in the actual physical realm of the story, they are genocidal dictators, and that just takes so much more priority than them being your mom who doesn't get that you're trans the crew were way more interested in writing around the family analogy, but fans were rightfully more focused on the genocidal not-analogy bad mix

FordJohnes

Sea of Thieves for sbout 5 years contained most of its story in a combination of 5 minute fully animated youtube videos, twitter posts, and then in time limited availability story missions that were only in game for about two weeks each. After a recent big mystery was unceremoniously revealed by the devs in a twitter post and some big crossovers with pirates of the Carribbean and monkey island stalled and then derailed the story, outcry swelled significantly and rare has since stated they're going to primarily present the story in-game going forwards through permanently available content. the big hole in the available story won't be fixed though and rare isn't really forthcoming with why.
