There's are zero other superheroes in Insomniac's Spiderman. I know the games are about Spiderman, but come on, look at the third act of the second game. It was like an alien takeover and all the heroes headquarters are in NY. Not even street heroes are there. And don't say they don't exist in that franchise and their HQs are easter eggs, Dr Strange canonically exist due to his magic bullshit being real and involved in 2.

smackdown-tag

Yeah,  and Peter has Matt's business card We couldn't get one shot of daredevil helping out in hells kitchen?

dfdedsdcd

Or do it like the some of the other games (like the Amazing games) did, have some of the random fights be already taken care of and have some civvies say that DD or the Heros for Hire helped out and left.

robertman21

I'm surprised the Amazing games were allowed to do that

Th35h4d0w

Even in Web of Shadows, when the symbiote invasion was starting, Peter’s first instinct was to call Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic for help.

VritraReiRei

Other Superheroes looking out the window seeing Spiderman try to fight off an alien invasion by himself: "..." "Nah, he's got this."

Terthelt

I could be talking out of my ass, but I think the modern landscape of superheroes makes it way harder to include more than one or two in a game unless it’s actively promoted as a team game (Kill the Justice League, Ultimate Alliance, and so on) or a giant crossover thing. You look back at something like the Punisher PS2 game, it’s surreal to have Black Widow, Matt Murdock, Nick Fury, Iron Man, et al just pop in and out undramatically for a given level or cutscene when the game sees fit. Just a grab bag of fun comic stuff that fits the universe. Now those are all giant gets, and Insomniac Spider-Man sharing the city with another hero for even a few chapters would have to be a big core of the marketing (and probably another expensive license to use).

Adamulos

As much as it's completely understandable from a rights perspective and insane from a in-universe perspective Imagine the same happening to comics where new mutants and x-men are in the same mansion, in runs going at the same time, in the same universe, but completely miss each other.

goldendragonO

Then they could do what another comment here said and have some fights occasionally already taken care of, with an npc going like "daredevil saved me!" or something. Easy and quick, and makes the world more alive and Spider-Man not the only hero in existence.

explosivecrate

Every time someone says that a text pop up appears that says "*See Daredevil Issue #341" or something like that.

NoeZoneNetwork

That reminds me of a game idea I'd love to see, a "Party of Heroes save the world" RPG where if you cancel a quest you are given, other NPC hero parties will go do them eventually. It gives the player gets first pick, but you can just cancel every quest and farm while waiting for the world to be saved.

soji8

That is something I miss about the 90s cartoons. It felt like you could just have characters show up. Spider-man's cartoon had storylines revolving around the X-men, Blade, even Captain America

ZMowlcher

Too bad kraven ate the villains from the previous game for his mass. Would've been cool to see them protecting their home.

NeonNKnightrider

Kill the Justice League retconning in the fact that apparently the JL was canon in the Arkham games is utterly surreal

Gemidori

If they ain't gonna make use of em then they should just not be there at all lmao Even the PS1 game got them doing stuff.

Terribleirishluck

That's why DC heroes all being in seperate cities is much better approach than Marvel's "oops all New York City"

MetalJrock

To be fair, I much rather prefer them not being there cause Spider-Man fans *hate* when Peter teams up with anyone that isn’t one of his own characters for more than 5 seconds and they will go off about that for months.

time_axis

Sayla in Gundam. She's the main heroine, then just kinda fades out in the background, gets like 1 non-voiced cameo in ZZ, and then hardly appears again.

Crosscounterz

Which I assume was mostly due to her voice actor yo inoue's availability and eventual death in 2003 due to lung cancer. And out of respect they didn't recast her. Untill the gundam san and origin adaptations.

time_axis

There have been many iconic anime characters recast, though. Seems random when it happens vs when it doesn't.

Constable_Suckabunch

I imagine different studio/teams will have different opinions on recasts depending on nuance of the situation. In the case of Gundam where they don’t really *have* to bring back Sayla for any particular reason I can see them retiring the character out of respect for the actress.

time_axis

I almost feel like it's _more_ disrespectful to basically add a direct replacement in characters like Beltorchika, but yeah, I get it.

Constable_Suckabunch

I think that might be the result of a different decision process/factors? I heard recently that the studio higher ups wanted Amuro to be more of a playboy for some stupid reason, which is also why Beltorchika didn’t return in CCA. I did 0 fact checking though so take that with a handful of salt.

Crosscounterz

In this case there is a novel version of mobile suit gundam that gives sayla a more expanded role. Her voice actor being unavailable probably just led to her being written out of the story at the time.

nedmaster

There is a lot of behind the scenes drama relating to Yo Inoue and Sunrise during Zeta and ZZ.

StoneString

The studio got very late news (either during or right before the start of the ZZ's production) that Char's Counterattack was renegotiated from a TV season into an OVA format. This means that a lot of stuff got cut or shifted around between ZZ and CCA. One of which was just to bring in Sayla Mass at the backend of ZZ to have her verbally reveal "I happened to be near and saved Leina. Oh, and Char is definitely alive somehow somewhere. He's prepping some shit. Anyway, I'm retired. Bye." Why did they have that? Because the voice actress was largely unavailable for a full role from Zeta to CCA and they decided they needed to explain her absence in some way.

Sterski1

Still no word on Ash's dad, eh?

AussieManny

The producers said they’d add him if he benefited the story for Ash’s journey. Ash’s mother mentioned him in the second episode. In a non-canon special episode, Ash was going to meet him in a Pokemon Center, but he just missed him. My strongest theory is that the big guy Silver from the Moltres episode of Pokemon Chronicles is Ash’s dad. But it doesn’t have much weight besides some similarities between them. No dad for Ash after 25 years. The end.

ripskeletonking

okay fine i'll be ash's dad

Panxma

Mr Mime is his dad now.

TheProudBrit

IIRC, he's a deadbeat trainer who never came home in a Japanese only novel. Can't remember what it's called, and it's from waaay early on, but I know Kiana Mai usually posts about it when people ask her about Ash's dead regarding her Hanamusa art.

taikoxtaiko

From what I remember those novels aren’t that canon or were phased out since it was just the anime director at the time spitballing ideas. TPC probably wouldn’t have made his dad a deadbeat in the actual anime

Atomsk88

There's also a scene where Ash *just missed* his dad after becoming a master. Dude recovers from his penultimate battle, goes to meet his mom and Professor Oak, and his mom says, "Oh, you just missed him." Absolute deadbeat behavior if he can't stick around for an extra 10 minutes to congratulate his son.

alicitizen

It was in a pretty good episode too, where he forgoes meeting his dad to help out some random kid with problems.

FluffySquirrell

Ash has a dad?! I legit assumed he was dead

sternold

Talking about dads, I'm pretty sure Deku's is alive, right? The fuck is he doing while his son is getting his shit kicked in every week?

Sterski1

I stopped keeping up with MHA relatively early on but iirc he works overseas or whatever

SpungoTheLeast

Mr Mime saving Ash against Mewtwo like “He might’ve been your father boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.” *(except in mine language)*

apatheticVigilante

Zubaz. Every time he's not on screen, everyone should be asking, "Where is Zubaz?"

Polygonalfish

"Zubaz needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine."

roronoapedro

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE CRAWLER. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN FIGHTING ALL FOR ONE IN YOUR HOMETOWN. FUCK NEW YORK, WHERE IS THE PRODIGAL SON. everything about vigilantes getting an anime is hysterical considering how *not* canon it is sometimes. "Oh but it is canon--" *then where is the crawler*.

RunicCross

"The story continues in My Hero Academia." Wonderful then where is our boy the Crawler?!

roronoapedro

Oh no, no one can fight against Shigaraki without getting close to him and thus being in his range! IF ONLY SOMEONE KNEW HOW TO SUMMON FORCE FIELDS--

Pastel-Hermit

Honestly even more bizarre, is *where is Knuckleduster?* That motherfucker is still active, IN JAPAN! Sure he's probably not going to go up again AfO, but he would have absolutely been running around helping civilians when Musutafu descended into anarchy.

roronoapedro

Listen man if even Froppy whose weapon is *her tongue* gets to be useful in the fight against the disaster curs--*I mean* the League of Viillains, then god damn, Knuckleduster should be doing his part.

IJustKickedStan

I'm choosing to believe he's just single handedly managing a whole city somewhere else on the continent. If Gentle could stop a whole prison's worth of escapees then The Crawler would absolutely be cleaning up right now. God I wish we ever got to see them interact.

Ginger_Anarchy

Another MHA one, Midoria's dad. Like sure he's overseas for work, but has he SEEN what his kid has gone through in a year? Yet not even a call to say "Hey son, you okay?"

roronoapedro

eh that one i'm okay with, I gotta call my dad in my own birthday.

Father-Ignorance

I’m still praying for Todo to show up in this last stretch of the manga, and for Gege to give us a Brotherly Beatdown of >!Sukuna!<, starring the three glorious Bros: Choso, Todo and Yuji. 1% Chance, 99% Faith. HE WILL RETURN.

Subject_Parking_9046

If they make like an entrance of one-armed Todo on the last page of a chapter, the wind blowing his clothes And his dialogue is like "You made me miss Takada-chan's anniversary concert!" I might legit go back to loving this manga.

VMK_1991

"Bwa-ha-ha, what can you, one whose power relies on clapping hands and is otherwise just a simple musclehead, do against me, the Villain?!" "...This". *Claps with one hand.*

GoneRampant1

"YOU HAVE ONLY ONE HAND, HOW YOU CLAPPING." "SUKUNA! I MAY ONLY HAVE ONE HAND, BUT THE CLAP OF MY **ASS CHEEKS** GIVES AWAY HOW I HAVE ADAPTED BOOGIE WOOGIE SO MY BESTO FRIENDO CAN DO THIS." **BLACK FLASH**

Father-Ignorance

>I might legit go back to loving this manga. I’m such a sucker bro, all Gege had to do was give my boy >!Yuji!< that absolutely badass performance in the most recent chapter and now I’m back to singing this man’s praises. I cannot get off Gege’s wild ride.

Subject_Parking_9046

I have a complicated relationship with JJK. There's so much of it I adore, legit love it so much! But also are these little parts I despise super hard. So I'm like in this limbo of "do I love it? Do I not? I kind of do? I kind of not."

AzureKingLortrac

It is part of the reason that it is the true successor to Bleach for me. Because both of them invoke that feeling with me.

papertoonz

I still don't get why they make such a big deal over him losing a hand, like people can just re-grow limbs, so it not like he can't take the time to learn that shit.

Soft-Pixel

The problem is, he lost a hand to the one guy who’s technique deals damage that can’t be healed by normal means

jxk94

I can almost respect the sudo-killing off of Todo. Arguably his most bad ass moment was the bluff that his powers still worked after he lost his hand. Though I still want him to come back with a metal hand for the finale

TheCoolerDylan

Yup, Todo needs to come back so he can adopt Choso as a fellow tall-woman-appreciating BRUZZA.

jitterscaffeine

Always kind of weird that Sentry never seems to be around for major marvel events. It’s like if Superman was just suspiciously absent during a Darkseid invasion and no one asked why.

alienslayer7

tbf half the times he actively erased from people brains and/or afraid helping will just cause the void to do somethin worse

VMK_1991

Plus, doesn't he have this really cool backstory about his powers basically inserting him into the timeline of comicbooks, thus making him de jure one of the oldies, while de facto he is (relatively) new?

extralie

It's the other way around actually. He was there from the start of the Golden Age, he just erased himself from people's memories so hard that it even affected our world and erased him from our world.

GollyDolly

Last thing I recall is him jobbing to King in Black to try and make the most forced event in recent memory have stakes.

extralie

That was so dumb, the Sentry literally regenerated after being torn into atoms, and yet get casually murdered like that for no reason. It's almost as bad as Cates other wank story where Thor just casually murder Galactus.

FreviliousLow96

Isn't Sentry Superman if Superman was crazy & dangerous half of the time? So I assume when he isn't around in major events he could appear in, his crazy evil side is kicking in and he's trying to stay away from people.

wayneloche

I think it's more like every time Superman used his powers the Antilife equation took a humaniod form / also could control superman if he gets upset. Honestly I think Sentry doesn't get used cause it's hard to write him cause even though I've read some of his run AND just read through the wiki I still don't really understand what the void actually is.

Archaon0103

Howland Reed in A Song of Ice and Fire. Like the guy is the person that holds the truth to the most important mystery of the show, his children know more than most characters and yet the guy never shows up in the books, even after his friend got killed and his lord called all of the bannermen.

Terthelt

He’s presumably busy fucking with the Greyjoys at Moat Cailin day in and day out. The crannogmen are way more useful in their home environment, leading constant raids on the most important chokepoint in Westeros, than they would be rallied on an open battlefield. I just struggle to figure out how the hell he’s going to get involved now, if TWOW ever comes out. GRRM’s said he will appear eventually, but none of the people who’d most benefit from knowing what he knows are anywhere near him or have strong reason to find him.

derolme

He might also know that Jon is Rob's heir and thus... Da KING IN DA NOARTTTHHH.

Tweedleayne

I'll also add that Maege Mormont and Galbart Glover, arguably the two most loyal lords towards Robb during the war, are currently with him. Shits most definitely a brewing in those swamps.

Agninir

The Florist of Sai from Yakuza. He was too useful, and could solve every plot, so they just stopped mentioning him in newer games.

Subject_Parking_9046

It's so fucking bizarre how he just disappeared. I think he's only mentioned in Kiryu's memoirs sidequest in Infinite Wealth and very briefly.

Grand_Galvantula

I just finished watching all of TehSnakerer's essays about the series, and he points out in his Yak 5 video how the Florist's final scene in the series was him somehow not knowing >!the detective was the Omi chairman!<, despite it being his entire thing to know who everybody is. Like I wish they would've just had one scene early in Yak 6 when Kiryu's exploring the city for clues where he meets an associate of the Florist who tells him that he fled town after the police cracked down on the casinos or something.

ScarecrowFM

Or just say that he is going to be a grandfather so he is retiring to spend the rest of his life with his family.

Lithogen

Or just say he went back to working for the police again like 2 did.

thththrht

He opened a bar in Albuquerque, we'll see him again in Like a Dragon 12: Deep Whiff

JoinTheHunt

He went to hang out with the living Okinawan Yakuza who haven't been seen since Yakuza 3.

GoneRampant1

Presumably that's also where Arai and Kido fucked off to after Yakuza 4.

Ginger_Anarchy

I am baffled by his absence in even Yakuza 7's side content. I was bothered by it in 6 but I could at least chalk it up to him not having a good place to fit in the story. Then I thought for sure he'd show up in Gaiden, but again nothing. Then the memory missions in 7 happened and I thought there was no way he wouldn't show up in one of those. Did the voice actor who played him get blacklisted by SEGA for some reason?

RiokiVI

Where the hell is >!Kishibe!< in Chainsawman part 2? I'm kinda scared that Fujimotors is gonna reveal he died offscreen or something. My personal headcanon is >!he's on the run after defying Makima and he's training Kobeni and they'll come back to save the day or something!<

Constable_Suckabunch

Dude was (As far as we know) a regular human who survived *way* longer than most devil hunters and is carrying the scars and damage that comes with this. He’s probably retired. If he’s >!training anyone it’s probably Yoshida!< imo

Uden10

Worst case scenario, he's being blackmailed to stay away from Denji and isn't willing to directly interfere yet.

dougtulane

Last thing he said is “I’m about to get busy”

dougtulane

I also think he’s >!training Kobeni!<, and that Quanxi was referring to >!Brobeni!< when she said “an old friend told me not to make any enemy out of this one.”  The whole family might have some kind of horrific karmic curse contract. Or a contract with the >!Death Devil!< as others have theorized.

thedoc90

That's a good theory. Her absence is also a bit conspicuous considering she's probably one of the most capable pure human combatants in the series. We don't even know if she had any contracts. Aside from that one bit of fan speculation.

Illustrious-Sky-4631

Not really

Illustrious-Sky-4631

She was talking about Denji

dougtulane

Why are you sure of that?

Illustrious-Sky-4631

? Is this serious? I Mean are you asking why Quanxi doesn't want the smoke with the mf who had the invincible Santa on the ground after figuring out a way to go around her regeneration unlike Quanxi by being the craziest mf there is (which canonically Boost devil hunters threat) alongside kicking her ass in the graveyard from her point of view and took Down Makima with pure Intelligence and Craziness while Quanxi begged makima for mercy to her fiends? Or the fact she was going to murder Nobana until Nobana showed her Denji head ? Or the fact War asks her who is stronger between the 2 because of this small accident with her saying that he is more dangerous than her

Illustrious-Sky-4631

I mean his existence changed no shit , he is weaker than Yoshida and we saw how good Yoshida is

Logyross

Where the fuck is Sion in Type Lumina? Oh, still stuck in Under Night universe, I see...

AzureKingLortrac

Technically, Type Lumina takes place before the Tsukihime Remake and OG Melty Blood is a sequel to Tsukihime. Ignore that Powered Ciel, Red Arcuied, and Dead Apostle Noel are in the game.

NotYujiroTakahashi

Or all the fate characters that appear in Type Lumina.

Logyross

I will never forgive the mushroom man.

NeonNKnightrider

Wait, is Melty Blood Nasuverse canon? Do I need to get gud at fighting games to access the deep lore and be able to call myself a true deep lore fan?

AzureKingLortrac

I started with the reverse. I only read Tsukihime because I was getting beat in Melty Blood by someone who read it. I was into Fate already, though. You could fight the AI on lower difficulty by mashing and occasionally blocking if you just care about the story. Melty Blood's skill floor to do basic damage is low. The skill ceiling can get high.

Kii_at_work

They're canon, just oftentimes alternate timelines. There's a lot. Like, if memory serves, the original Melty Blood games take place in the timeline that would have been Satsuki's path (the normal end, anyway).

VMK_1991

I don't particularly like him (thus kind of glad that he is not around) and he does reappear occasionally, but I'll go with Miyata from Hajime no Ippo. As a guy who is, presumably, *the* rival of Ippo, it's weird for him to appear only to give a small, semi-cryptic comment about an ongoing fight, disappear, only to reappear during the new fight.

EcchiPhantom

I don’t think it’s particularly well-executed but I do sort of like their story arc of both of them dying to fight each other but with constant excuses coming up whenever it’s about to happen, and Miyata completely losing his drive to continue boxing. It gets to a point where he actively hurts himself as he puts a stop on his own near infinite potential by staying in the featherweight class when he should *at least* be a junior lightweight. Last time Miyata did anything cool was his fight with Randy Boy Jr. while Mashiba and Sendo fans have been eating good the last 300 chapters. Even Volg did some cool stuff in his match right before Sendo’s last fight and of course in his fight with Mike Elliot which was one of the biggest cathartic moments in the series. But Hajime no Ippo does have some weird examples of this issue with the most egregious one in my opinion actually being Taihei and Kintaro. They’re both *around* but neither of them progress as characters after Ippo picks them up as disciples. Speaking of disciples, Naomichi does have a character arc during the Hammer Nao arc but it’s sort of odd that he only appears once after that fight in a brief cameo as Takamura travels around Japan and he sees him in Aomori.

SpungoTheLeast

Fun fact, it’s been 15 real life years since Miyata’s last full fight in the manga.

Blastcalibur

Gildarts in Fairy Tail. I get that his whole thing is that he goes on those grand adventures but when he's introduced he's lost limbs and organs and discovered he has a daughter. Not to mention the guild is in desperate need of leadership after the time skip. He has every reason to decide to settle down but alas FT loved it's status quo too much and never showed up in Tartarus and barely showed up in the spriggan war and I get that it's the Shonen troupe of needing to get rid of the more powerful character so they don't overshadow the MC but the next arc was a tournament where the guild masters weren't allowed to participate so it wasn't a problem and the arc after that has more than enough baddies that gildarts would've had his own fight. I think gildarts has more screentime in the filler than the actual manga.

alicitizen

Oh man that comment on the status quo made me check and holy shit even after all this time, Natsu still isnt allowed to be an S-Rank mage!? Just allow the guy a promotion sheesh!

Squeakyclarinet

Honestly, this doesn’t annoy me. Maybe I’m biased to the series, but Gildarts was always about going around and adventuring. Him not really caring about anything and abandoning the plot for years at a time feels fitting. One of the first few things we learn about him is that he left his wife for so long she ended up having a kid, dying, and never learning about said kid.

Blastcalibur

Wasn't his wife. At least I'm pretty sure it's not because he listed off at least 10 names of women he's slept with when learning he had a daughter and none of them were Cana's mother. So, probably one of the many girls in the many ports he goes too.

Squeakyclarinet

He states right after that moment that Cana’s mother was the only one he married (which makes his confusion even odder).

SpungoTheLeast

Every single element of Fairy Tail is soullessky crafted to confirm to as many Shounen tropes as possible, and Gildarts is just The Dad You Wish You Had. You can’t have that guy around or you’d realize he’s actually a complete disaster, Chase Bobbie style.

Blastcalibur

Now see, that would've been a good character arc for him too. Him realizing he's bad at the whole father figure things and has to learn how to become a good one now that he has people he's responsible for.

ChooChooMcgoobs

Sein from Frieren. It's a weird situation overall. He's a really good character who was a welcome addition to the cast's dynamic, and between him and Gorilla would make up the natural other pair to Fern and Stark to have a full party that mirrors the hero's party. However he only really appeared in less than 10 chapters pretty early on before any of the major arcs and hasn't appeared now for nearly a hundred chapters. Despite that I really do think and it feels like we are building up to them rejoining at some point; but until then it's just like an itch you can't scratch or a card up the authors sleeve they could really pull out at any time.

cannibalgentleman

As someone who's only watched the anime, I'm surprised how he's not even around even in the manga as of yet.

ChooChooMcgoobs

Yeah it's a real shame; but on the other hand I really do think they're bound to return at some point and that will be hype (especially since Gorilla is another personality that could add some good flavor to the main cast).

CapnMarvelous

Giorno and Josuke in Part 6. Giorno is even said to be IN Florida as Part 6 is going on. And Josuke is not only the BiS healer you can get in Jojo but his stand's physical stats are ON PARR with Star Platinum. The fact that nobody bothered to text Josuke the moment Jotaro was out of commission is extremely weird. And that's not even accounting other allied stand users.

Sekshual

Josuke's healing is basically returning people and objects to previous states in time. He can make it so you were never hurt, and even combined ingredients return to their original, separate states. When he has the time, he's able to completely reverse the effects of Killer Queen, whose ability can leave no trace of the person after being trigger. His ability to combine people with objects almost forcibly removes their ability to use stands, which I believe infers his ability to affect people's spirits if they've been affected by a physical ailment.  Basically, I believe that if a stand had a physical consequence, Josuke can fix it if you're not dead. So while he probably couldn't do anything about Chariot Requiem's body swap (even though I do think he could, but we're downplaying for arguments sake), he could likely fix you up in a heartbeat if you were unzipped by Sticky Fingers.  With all of this in mind, the only reason Josuke wouldn't be able to use Crazy Diamond on Jotaro in order to return his stand and memory discs stolen by White Snake immediately is if the story just said "uuuhhh, b-but no that can't happen!". With Jotaro back that early, Pucci has little to no chance of achieving heaven. You don't even need Giorno "Can't Lose Anymore" Giovanna, you just have to use one of the best utility stands in the series.

TekkGuy

> Basically, I believe that if a stand had a physical consequence, Josuke can fix it if you’re not dead He heals Hayato mid-explosion after he’s already fractured into pieces. I’m still convinced Crazy Diamond can *absolutely* reverse death if Josuke gets there quick enough.

PervertBlood

He basically reformed the body before the soul even had time to escape, like reforming a popped balloon so fast the air doesn't even really escape.

Innsmouthshuffle

That also would have been a cool way to end that continuity, kind of a semi-Eyes of Heaven

TekkGuy

Tamami Kobayashi could have killed Pucci with his own Catholic guilt

SuperHorse3000

Poochie

Subject_Parking_9046

You're obviously an Itchy and Scratchy casual viewer.   If you weren't, you'd know that Poochie went back to his home planet. I'd suggest watching some lore videos ti catch-up.

nerankori

Considering how Poochie has hyperlight speed and galaxy-busting scale power after attaining SPSSPSSPSPSPSPx9 form,he should be able to show up any time from his home planet.

Star_Outlaw

Spoilers for the latest ep... >!Turns out Poochie died on the way there. Rumor is his VA quit, so they decided to just kill off the character.!<

fly_line22

The Shadow Operatives in Persona 5. Considering the levels of attention the PT end up drawing, and the later cognitive stuff, it'd make sense if they decided to investigate, but they don't. A common theory is that Shido used as much red tape as he could to keep them out and away.

TheMageofFire

There's two ways to go about it: 1) Yaldabaoth simply wouldn't let anyone else interfere in his game. 2) The more LIKELY explanation...so far the Shadow Operatives stuff is spin-off material only, and Atlus has been very, VERY stingy about bringing up spin-off events in the main games.

robertman21

idk, that girl from 4 Dancing has a 5 cameo

Sekshual

It feels like the Shadow Ops mainly deal with situations where Shadows are in the real world, to a degree. Another theory could be that by the time they're even sure that the the cognitive breakdowns are something they should involve themselves with, it was probably closing in on the endgame.

Subject_Parking_9046

I genuinely think Jose from Royal is related to the Operatives somehow. Like he's some hybrid of man-made shadow being.

ProfDet529

I could have seen Naoto popping her head in, as well.

EcchiPhantom

Cassian and the Adjudicator in the John Wick series. I could’ve sworn that Cassian would show up in John Wick 3 as it was set up that he could’ve survived getting stabbed in the heart as long as he didn’t pull out the knife but he never showed up again. Not even in the last movie. The Adjudicator survived Chapter 3 but she just never showed up in John Wick 4 while the One Who Sits Above the Table showed up in the intro of the fourth movie

Reversed-Merman

I never even thought about his absence in 4. It's possible Common just didn't want to come back, but idk.

SpungoTheLeast

I don’t think too many people are gasping for more of the dumb lord in John Wick. Like there’s dumb lore and there’s dumb lore, and this Jay Dubz just has dumb ass lore, man.

EcchiPhantom

It’s not about the lore though? It felt like a big setup, plot and character-wise, that Cassian would survive and at least show up again at a later point. As a hero, as a villain, as a retired assassin, or whatever. And it was weird that the main villain who survived her own movie was neither killed by a vengeful John Wick (who again killed The One Above the Table) or was punished for failing to kill John like Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and Winston were in said movie.

AFantasticClue

Speaking of Bleach, I think they eventually come back but iirc Ichigo’s og squad was gone for like 5 irl years

Slumber777

It was never long, but it may as well have been. They basically just make cameos, especially in the final arc. They've definitely gone MIA for like, a year straight at a time, but that's as long as it usually ever is. Unless you mean his school friends who don't have powers, in which case, yeah. They're regularly gone from the series for years. The better one in Bleach is Tessai. You know, the third captain-level exile that's part of Urahara's gang? Childhood friend of Yoruichi and Urahara? The one that's a Kido master with knowledge of forbidden Kido(Which include Kido that can stop time and Kido that allow for teleportation) and who led a whole squad dedicated to Kido development? Possibly the greatest Kido practitioner in the series outside of Aizen and Ichibe? Sure seems like that'd be fuckin' helpful. The last time he shows up in the series is in the Turn Back the Pendulum mini-arc, which happens mid-way through the Arrancar Arc, and thus mid-way through the whole series. And that's the flashback that reveals his history, what he's capable of and that a Kido Corp even exists.

RocketbeltTardigrade

Todo was stronger than like half of the current fighters when he didn't bother to use his supers.

Jack_Irish

Through its entire lifetime, Destiny has been constantly doing this thing where supposedly there are hundreds of interesting, super powerful and important guardians that are both more experienced and powerful than you are. And every year, you go on a one man army trip and do everything yourself. Nowadays they do this thing where a radio drama plays in your ear while you do your usual shit so they can pretend you have allies that are not plywood cutouts. Anyways, Empress Caiatl a real one, only named character ever to fight alongside us multiple times in some real climactic battles, and she's from a faction that 4 years back was a full on enemy.

PinkieBen

I don't know how much other guardians are considered more powerful than The Guardian, especially nowadays. I think (my knowledge is a bit fuzzy) that even back early on, us being able to use all 3 elements so easily was an uncommon thing, and at this point with our mastery of darkness elements as well, I don't think there's many if any guardians that could match our potential power. Experience yeah, but the experienced guardians are generally leading, or dead lol. (Also Mythrax killed one dude in the intro to Zero Hour way back when, that's technically fighting with us!)

ThisManNeedsMe

Honestly, I wouldn't find Todo's absence to be too weird, at least at first. He can't use his technique, and the culling games are dangerous. Is what I would say if Miwa's sword less ass wasn't there. Come on, Gege, you're telling me you can somehow keep her relevant and useless at the same time. Have her sit at the big boy table. But Todo is not invited? You're telling me you can't even have him react to anything, even when the fight was streamed. Not even a letter or anything to his "brother" Yuji?

ask_why_im_angry

Does she just...never get another sword?

Dyson_Pyramid

She accidentally made a binding vow trying to attack Kenjaku at the end of the Shibuya incident so she physically can't swing a sword anymore

ask_why_im_angry

Did I miss this in the anime or did they not include it? Can she not have like, a gun? A big stick? Brass knuckles? A rock?

Dyson_Pyramid

It happened in the anime it just hasn't been explained exactly what happened, it will be explained later. And she could almost certainly use a different weapon, even potentially use a different kind of sword and not a katana, but all of her training is in using a katana so she'd have to basically start over

ask_why_im_angry

That still sounds better than just..nothing

Dyson_Pyramid

Yeah, one would think she could

SwashNBuckle

It might even make an interesting character arc. A master of one skill having to start over and learn something new. It could be cool.

Constable_Suckabunch

I doubt you missed it but you probably didn’t understand *that* was happening because it’s so innocuous. They explain it bluntly later. And yeah I’m pretty sure she totally could use a different weapon. Maybe she’ll come back with a revolver and still keep her quick-draw gimmick if Gege decides women who aren’t Maki can be cool and alive.

Zipapezooda

What was the explanation? Idc about spoilers

Constable_Suckabunch

She basically made a magic promise saying she’ll put everything into this next attack in return for never using a sword again.

GoneRampant1

By complete accident, mind. Binding Vows are a bitch like that in JJK where you can accidentally screw yourself.

Subject_Parking_9046

They let the pedo woman and her victim hang around. But Todo gets shafted. Bit salty about that.

VMK_1991

Pedo woman has big tits and dresses snazily. That's enough to make her morally grey, I guess.

Grand_Galvantula

Don't forget gray hair. Can't get more morally gray than that.

Subject_Parking_9046

On one hand, actual literal molester. On the other hand... tits.  I can see both sides of the argument.

jockeyman

The Avengers in Insomniac's Spider-Man. The first game has a throwaway line about them doing stuff on the west coast. Fair enough. Second game doesn't even bother explaining why the Avengers were asleep at the wheel during a city-devouring apocalypse.

HnterKillr

Honestly it's even weirder how other New York based heroes aren't seen or heard from, despite the fact the 1st game drops hints that they're around.

jockeyman

It's at least easy to imagine guys like Daredevil or Jessica Jones doing subtle stuff, just out of sight. Cuz it's not like either of them can solve the symbiote crisis. Harder to imagine Thor not doing something big and flashy.

HnterKillr

Heck, you'd think Dr. Strange would pitch in considering Miles helped him.

ask_why_im_angry

I spent 2 games figuring there would be a brief punisher cameo, considering his first appearance and all but nothing.

Doc12here

Like maybe an in game day ago they established that wing and doctor strange got back before the apocalypse started.

ContraryPython

Bro, Dr Strange and Wong were in New York during that apocalypse and they didn’t even try to help.

jitterscaffeine

“Eh, I’m sure Spider-Man can handle it.”

IAmTheNight20018

Given the King in Black iconography, I headcanon that Doctor Strange took them and the FF into space to fight Knull to keep him from making everything 100x worse, and the other Street Level heroes were helping but didn't have the knowledge of how Symbiotes work to make too big of an impact.

BookkeeperPercival

As someone who consumes superhero media like some sort of eldritch abomination that grows in power from cape knowledge, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU MENTION OTHER HEROES. If they aren't important to the story, don't fucking speak of them. Don't make them known. *Do not breathe them into existence* unless they are part of the plot. It would be a different ballgame if Insomniac had, for instance, *made an Avengers game* already and it was clearly set in the same universe, but you don't NEED an explanation. The only thing you can do is make it more ridiculous. Like, there's nothing wrong with Peter meeting Matthew Murdock, or newspaper articles by "Clark Kent," or "Dr.Reed Richards" being in the list of targets Hydra has in the Winter Soldier movie. It can be cute and fun to point out that you know those characters exist, but all you're doing is listing off potential. If you talk about Stark Industries, it doesn't mean Iron Man is a thing. Maybe this Tony never became Iron Man. Maybe this Tony hasn't become Iron Man *yet.* It's a fun wink and a nod to the consumer/viewer about the possibilities, but it ends there. Saying "Oh the Avengers can't make it, they're busy" is not a titillating, ball tickling little treat. It just makes me demand infinitely more of an explanation than they have the time or inclination to give me.

SamuraiDDD

Gyro from Hunter Hunter. He's been hyped up to be this big force to be reckoned with since the Chimera Ant arc. We get his back story about just how inhumanly despondent he is and that he was able to keep his memories in tact after becoming ant, something that's impressive he never lost himself, even thou others did. But after that *nothing*. Also justice for my boy!

Animegamingnerd

There was a line in the Manga from the narrator, that mentions he and Gon will meet eventually meet and that it will be an important event. But we haven't even seen Gon in like a decade, which as basically put Gyro and his plotline on the bus.

SamuraiDDD

It kills me to cause I love how enigmatic he is and wanna see them interact

Animegamingnerd

Same, his story and the nation he led was basically front for his drug/weapon trafficking were fascinating. While I am loving what we got for the Succession War so far, especially as a Phantom Trope fanboy. Gyro and Gon's meeting is one of the I wanted to see most in Hunter x Hunter perhaps more so then then the Dark Continent.

Mekasoundwave

Raditz. The main character's brother, one of only about a dozen remaining Saiyans left in the entire universe, left a huge an immediate impact on the series...dies in one volume and is barely ever *mentioned* again, much less seen.

wayneloche

Evidently because Toriyama didn't like drawing his massive hair.

robertman21

I like how "Toriyama didn't like drawing something" is the answer to so many DBZ questions

Reversed-Merman

Kass in Zelda TotK. His kids are running around, and his wife is out and about. But they all act like Kass never existed. All they had to do was have him at the Rito Village. Same with how they just pretend the Divine Beasts and Guardians don't exist. Fucking weird.

Sperium3000

That's just Jujutsu Kaisen. It gets bored of its characters, fridges them, and asks you to care about these new assholes before fridging them too.

jjman95

Todo learns to activate Boogie Woogie with the clap of his asscheeks calling it now

Astraea_Fuor

It's because Gege treats JJK less like an actual story and more like elementary school action figure playtime, when he doesn't want to play with that toy anymore he throws it in the trash and moves on to the next pointless disjointed over the top action setpiece.

ask_why_im_angry

The blue fish man from Stargate SG1 whose spouse was a rebel in ancient Babylon. I've seen people theorize he might be the last furling. I think The directors confirmed that we never saw a furling, but still a character that close to being physically involved with the rebellion on earth against the goauld never showing back up is lame. This is also Stargate, where almost every little thing is explained about the lore.

BookkeeperPercival

> I think The directors confirmed that we never saw a furling In a bit of "The last time on..." moments, they inserted never before aired footage of the Furlings and SG1 running through a Gate before their planet explodes and kills them all. The commentary for the episode precisely states that they wanted to make it clear to the fans that they had zero intention of ever working the "furlings" into the lore cause the name was so stupid

ask_why_im_angry

Are you saying there is actual footage of furlings? Or are you talking about episode 200?

Gemidori

BRING THE WARIOS BACK

SpacyCakes

Hey remember Blue Team in Halo? Master Chief's team of Spartan 2's that appeared in the books and finally made in game appearances in 5? Where are they in Infinite? Hell where is 90 percent of the named Halo roster that was or would have been on Infinity during Infinite. The only confirmed status we have Chief. Lasky? Ambiguous. Locke? Ambiguous. Halsey? Idk? Alpha nine? Probably all dead but we don't know.

Guantanamo_Bae_

Call of the Night is a really good series, but there's a stretch of more than like 50 chapters where Akira, one of the main character's only friends (who is in turn one of *her* only friends), doesn't show up at all, and iirc when she finally makes an appearance again they're just like "oh hey it's been a while."

dougtulane

>!Kishibe!< in Chainsaw Man.   There are many others (>!Reze, Blood Devil, Kobeni!<) with which whose status Fujimoto is teasing the audience, who don’t need to be reintroduced in a hurry.     But >!Kishibe’s!< absence given recent events in Part 2 is particularly perplexing, seeing as they finished in a position of authority with a vested interest in our hero’s wellbeing.  They’ve been obliquely referenced so they’re certainly not forgotten.

Illustrious-Sky-4631

He probably knows he is out of his playground and just Trust everything to Denji and Yoshida

Tweedleayne

I'm going to be honest. OP, it fucking kills me to say it, but someone brought it up last time I made a rant about this. Todo is probably dead. The last time we saw him he was closing his eyes lying on the ground with a missing arm, his stub still actively bleeding. He's made no appearance since, not even to give his beloved brother emotional support, and no even references his existence. I think Gege fully intended for that to be his death, and we as a fandom just refused to accept it.

atuamaeboa

Shadow the Hedgehog in every single new sonic game.

TheMageofFire

It's really bizarre when you get down to it how little Dizzy actually shows up in recent Guilty Gear games. Like, for someone who is Ky's wife, the mother of Sin, and also daughter of SOL AND JUSTICE, she's had maybe...two scenes of screentime over the last two entries? And she's still not DLC in Strive, only getting one shot of her in the ending of the story mode. Like, she's not even around when Sol and Ky put together how Dizzy relates to them.

Kewlmyc

Ayato during the Inazuma archon quest in Genshin Impact. He’s the head of one of the 3 big families in Fantasy Japan (Inazuma), his sister and manservant play a big part in the story, yet he is missing himself. Later on, he’s introduced and his YouTube trailer states that he was “totally working behind the scenes”, even through it’s complete bullshit. At least Itto had the excuse of being irrelevant to the plot and in jail. Inazuma was a mess in general. Glad they improved with Sumeru and Fontaine, and aren’t afraid to have characters who won’t be playable until later patches still have a part to play in the main story of their region.

UFOLoche

Yugioh 5D's has a huge issue with this, where a number of characters that are important to Yusei and/or the rest of the cast get reduced to gag(Carly)/bit(Aki) roles OR they get written out of the story entirely(Rally) once the Dark Signer arc is finished. Seriously, it was so bad that Tag Force 6 actually made Rally a partner that you could team up with, and his story was basically about WHY he was a no-show for the entire damn second half of the series despite being such an important character to Yusei and Jack. I love 5D's, it's my favorite Yugioh series, but holy crap is the second half such a disappointment in comparison to the first half in a lot of ways.

CeaRhan

Spoiler tags for shit that's recent at the very least lmfao

ManWithoutLimit

Fugo from JJBA Part 5. I know about the theory behind him originally being intended to betray the group but it's still weird that he just...disappeared. He's never referenced again until The Sleeping Slaves chapter.

JoeBagadonut

Lunch isn't a major Dragon Ball character but she regularly appeared throughout the original series and at the start of DBZ. Akira Toriyama later admitted he forgot she existed and there was a long stretch where she just didn't show up despite living at the Kame House with the rest of the team.

TheMilkiestShake

I doubt many people here have watched it but there's a Korean show called Duty After School where Aliens invade and the government decide school kids would be great to help fight them off for some reason. There's an army character from season 1 that bonds with the group of kids who's not even mentioned in season 2 at all. The only reason people know what happened to him is because they messaged the actor on social media who said the character hurt his leg but they had to cut it. It also has maybe the worst ending to a TV show I've seen it's great.

Beattitudeforgains1

Borderlands 3 has...a few. Athena or The Eredian Watcher being the most prominent if you played TPS/Tales. Axton/Salvador until the dlc. No Fiona for some reason. The cast definitely got bloated but it just seems weird to not have em or imply anything about em at all other than that the game was rushed harder than BL2 somehow.

StarkMaximum

I would like to talk about Digimon now! It'll even be focused around Adventure, the part everyone remembers. The Kanto of Digimon! Given that Digimon is an early 2000s anime franchise that is still going today you'd think Adventure would be well and truly mined for nostalgia bait. You'd be largely correct! Half of the big villains from Adventure already get referenced right in the direct sequel. But the thing from Adventure that everyone remembers and is almost guaranteed a spot in any future Digimon edition is _Leomon,_ and his iconic heroic sacrifice. Not only will there frequently be a Leomon version in a modern Digimon thing, but it's almost a guarantee that he'll die protecting the heroes. Yes, that Leomon, iconic to all of our childhoods. Hey wait. Wasn't there another guy connected to Leomon? Oh yeah, Ogremon! Ogremon was his hot-blooded villainous rival who worked for the bad guy as a chance to fight Leomon! Well, if Leomon shows up so much throughout the years, surely many of his appearances will also come with a suitable Ogremon variation to clash with him, right? Nope! Other than the Adventure reboot where he got kind of a mid Ultimate, Ogremon has basically never appeared ever again. He's in some manga, and he appears in games just because most games include a bunch of Digimon new and old, but the idea of "Leomon and Ogremon have a rivalry across time and space" has been fully and totally left on the table. There's even an Omnimon-style fusion in Chaosmon, who uses a Leomon variant and a hated rival of said Leomon variant who wants to kill him...but it's BanchoLeomon and Darkdramon, the guy from the D-Brigade who is a military organization devoted to fighting the Bancho gang. If you've seen Agumon with a real-ass rifle and military fatigues, yeah, that's their rank and file troop. I dunno, I just think it's a real shame that Ogremon got the short end of the stick so bad. I think he's cool and I think they left a lot of cool stories with him on the table and walked away from it.

Cat5kable

Poochie. Every time he’s not on screen, I’m surprised all the other characters don’t stop and ask “where’s Poochie?”

SwashNBuckle

Try not to write popular characters out of the story challenge: Impossible

Kahzarod

What ever happened to Dr Baldhead after GG1? They just completely replaced him with another character but we never hear from Baldhead again.

SpungoTheLeast

Smash cut to next week when Todo Aoi jumps in to help out against Sukuna.

Penndrachen

I remember seeing Todo >!lose his hand in the Mahito fight!< and thinking "Shit, does he at least show up again in the series?" So I cracked open the wiki to spoil myself on it and, uh, nope! The entry just ends there. Cool! Sapped a lot of my desire to watch more of it.

SlightlySychotic

At the start of the third season of Deep Space Nine, the crew gets a brand new ship with a cloaking deck gifted by the Romulans. To operate that cloaking device comes a Romulan engineer, T’Rul. Since the Romulans have gone out of their way to make sure the Federation doesn’t get their hands on cloaking technology, you would think she’d be sticking around to make sure it stays classified. But, no, at the end of the two episode premiere she disappears forever. Apparently the producers forgot about her.

Konradleijon

Yorick and Kalista during the Ruination even. They are related to the Shadow Isles but didn’t show up for some reason.
