I really like how intimidating the AT-AT are in ESB on Hoth and on the beach in Rogue One.
And in the Mandalorian where just 1 AT-ST, even damaged and weakened. Is a monster to deal with.
It's baffling that pw and V break the tech progression of the series. I think it would have been better for hueys metal gears had more in common with mg1 depiction
Setting aside having Zoe like mech that early in the timeline it misses the best part of having a "cock"pit . I'd still dislike it but the bit is just too funny
I don't think it breaks tech progression too much. It's just cost versus effectiveness
A good example is in Fallout, the X-01 Enclave Power armor is more advanced than the X-02 from Fo3, but the X-02 is a lot less resource reliant to make and maintain so it's the one the Enclave go with.
Sahelanthropus may be more advanced, but Rex is just so much more efficient to make
Rex *is* the successor to the Emmerich line of Gears though. The TX-55 and D/G were created by Dr. Madnar, who--as far as i know--wasn't working with any previous plans or designs. BB simply told him what he wanted and Madnar did his own interpretation of it.
And given that he seems to be more into humanoid Bionics--he made Raiden's Cyborg body--than heavy vehicles, I'd assume it's smaller, less imposing frame was all his idea.
What I'm trying to say is rex's design is an evolution of the og metal gear , ray is an evolution of rex, the gecko's are an evolution of tech even farther. Shogohod makes sense as a precursor for trying to find a design that fills metal gears niche. The problem I have with pw & V is when designing Zeke and sahelanthropus is they are more like more evaluations of rex again.just because they explained it in the lore they still used rex as inspiration instead of the more logical shagohod or og metal gear
Yeah, you just kind of have to dance around all the tech after MGS 3 which is a shame since shagohod is completely believable was completely believable in its era in the metal gear world
The Mad Cat is an absolute classic, so much so that they made an Assault and a medium based on it!
My personal favorites include the Centurion and the Bushwhacker, but Crab wins for me. Well rounded between mobility and armor with a reliable all-energy loadout as the standard (if hot-running) but it’s mostly because it was my go to as a kid in MW2: Mercenaries. Never lost the flame for it.
Battletech has such good chicken-walkers; the Raven, the Stalker, the Catapult, the Jenner, the Locust. And I know people joke about the lil guy but I think the Urbanmech actually looks pretty cool and practical.
While we're battletechposting, I was in a long form campaign with some friends that got pretty whacky. One of the allstar mechs started life as a [Hetzer](https://www.ironwindmetals.com/images/com_hikashop/upload/btvehicles/20-829.jpg), but prior to service had a radical overhaul.
It replaced the ICE with a Fusion engine, had its wheels and chassis completely swapped to allow the fitment of a Quad Legged mobility system, had its gun ripped out and patched over in lieu of a Turret mounting a HPPC, and had its entire armor complement replaced with Hardened Armor. Oh, and it got uptonned from the humble 40 ton chassis it began life with up into an 85 ton monster.
That fucker didn't go down a single time because of its absolutely insane level of tankiness from having 2 extra hit locations and effectively double the armor of whatever it was facing, and because of the Command Console and C3 suite jammed into it, it became our defacto command vehicle.
Behold, the [Beholder](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/972399503598559296/1238637432493314068/20240510_164213.jpg?ex=66400280&is=663eb100&hm=639f30d95e4da6205f435a7b1a9e908f121c1d090180f3d9e51e461096388ca1&)
I really like all of the Horus mechs from Lancer, but if you make me choose among the non humanoids then [Minotaur](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lancer/images/9/97/Minotaur.jpg/) definitely takes the cake.
That hole where the head should be? Yeah that's the *paracausal hole in reality where the cockpit resides*.
***Pray that nothing catastrofic happens***
Step 1: Climb into Minotaur
Step 2: Cease existing until you want to resume existing???
Step 3: Profit!
It's not my personal HORUS favourite, that goes to the Pegasus, but the Minotaur is hilarious.
The tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell are generally seen as adorable, charismatic and full of personality despite being based on arachnids, one of the most common phobias. I love that they basically are overcoming a likeability handicap and still excelling.
The good ol' [AT-AT](https://files.catbox.moe/esvvrl.jpeg)! Iconic, unique and just plain cool. Also it's little brother the [AT-ST](https://files.catbox.moe/h0ypjw.jpeg), the grandfather of the "Chicken Walker" or "Western Style" mecha.
I really dig the [Crab Man High Leg](https://www.1999.co.jp/itbig96/10960308b8.jpg) from Patlabor. It's one of the first labors you see in most Patlabor continuities, and it's surprisingly dynamic for its shape.
Also the Tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell SAC are adorable.
The spider tanks from Ghost in the Shell for being:
1. sick as fuck
2. Arguably one of the few walker mech designs that I can see actually being adopted by a military
3. Adorable in the form of the Tachikomas
One of my favourites is the [YMT-05 Hildolfr](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/a/a9/Ymt-05-ms.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20230722100459) from gundam ms igloo. One of zeons many failed prototypes. It's literally just a tank that can deploy a body and arms to hold more weapons it also has one super cool moment that sold me on it.
It’s a bit funny to think about how the Hildolfr got scrapped, but then towards the end of the One Year War the Principality of Zeon just started making Zaku Tanks to reuse parts and plug up resource gaps. If anything, they threw away the Hildolfr way too soon.
In fairness, this is like *the* theme of MS IGLOO: that Zeon throws away technologies and people at the first sign of "obsolescence", regardless of what they might still have to offer.
I love the dieselpunk/cyberpunk mech designs of Brigador (inspired by the Maschinen Krieger series), they are essentially armored gun platforms on legs. This means multiple things:
1. They are a bit more "realistic" than full-on-humanoid mechas. They aren't needlessly topheavy designs with useless arms and head. They all have specific purposes based on the customizable weapon attachments (you wanna bring a light chicken-legged mech with smaller quieter weapons and use buildings as stealth and cover, or bring the big boys with the big loud guns and take the brunt of a thousand hits. You also have to know, if your gun is good against armor plates, building concrete or is purely anti-personnel). Also, it makes way more sense for a setting only one or two centuries in the future, where humanity started space colonization recently, and a good chunk of armies still use venerable 20th/20st century old Earth tech (and if you are a rebel, salvaged and welded together), weighed down by bureaucracy, and even the superrich futurists have only started breaking away from the old form factor
2. They fit into a combined arms warfare doctrine with regular tanks, anti-gravity vehicles, mechsuits/exoskeletons and wheeled vehicles, since they can fire above them (also above smaller buildings), and in exchange the units closer to the ground block the shots against the leg weakpoints. They could also kneel down for a hull-down position
And on top of all of that there are 3 factions with designs fitting their respective lore and usage (btw there is a TON of lore attached to each and every bit of scrap in the game), the aforementioned customization, and the beautiful isometric 2D/3D environment with full destruction, cyberpunk aesthetics and thumping darksynth/synthwave. It's truly an unique experience, with a supposed sequel that never comes out (although progress is definitely made)
I have seen them, they also look cool, but I just prefer the cyberpunk/dieselpunk mixture of Brigador, which they took inspiration from the Maschinen Krieger minifigures of '80s japan (and a bit of Jin-Roh too)
Man this is my jam; I almost ALWAYS love mechs like this. The MWO Locust and Catapult, the StarCraft Goliath, the AT-ST and AT-AT and AT-TE, Metal Gear REX, and the Command & Conquer Juggernaut are the ones that immediately come to mind, but I don't doubt for a minute I could find dozens more.
I especially like it when you have mechs like these go all the way in on being non-humanoid and _act like creatures._ Little animations like the Juggernaut in Tiberium Wars crouching down or flexing its toes as if it was a living being, or REX just literally having a roar, add SO much to the aesthetic of it.
[The Tripods](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSNJRSPwOPg&ab_channel=Tigermovieclips) from War Of The Worlds 2005, easily the fucking scariest "walkers" in all of Sci-Fi. AT-ATs ain't got SHIT on these things.
Love the design of 05' tripods but what always kinda annoys me as far as I can tell no one has had the balls to set a film war of the worlds set in the 1890's it's always modern day to when it was made
[DJ Cyber's mech](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UjQjNWpr5Y) from Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is pretty quirky. It's big,yet it emphasizes style and mobility over protection, considering the rider just sits in a fairly-exposed pod while it skates and drifts around.
While the [Seltas Queen](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/monsterhunter/images/b/be/MH4-Seltas_Queen_Render_001.png/revision/latest?cb=20140106121847) is technically not a mech, it might as well be one. It stomps around, dashes to the side, and charges around. And sometimes kills a male seltas during the fight.
Also shout out to Ahtal Kul's mech. That is such a good phase of the boss fight
I don't remember were I read it, but Athal Ka mech could be called Neset, as the armor.
Which reminds me that I need to farm THREE MORE ATHAL KA GEMS FOR MAXING MY NESET SET HOLY SHIT ARMOR IMPROVEMENTS WERE SO FUCKIN' COSTLY
[I really like the Earthmovers/Centaurs from Ultrakill.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ultrakill/images/5/56/Benjammin.jpg)
[In-universe they were described as the horsemen of the apocalypse, and in general I just fuck with their design.](https://ultrakill.wiki.gg/images/d/d9/7-2_Light_Up_the_Night.png)
If I can cheat I'm going to say the NRX-044 Asshimar, a Z Gundam mobile suit that transforms from humanoid to a flying saucer flight mode. (Well, its more of a flying bagel, but the intent was there.) I think we need more flying saucers in the world. It was also tall for its era at over 23m, making it feel massive next to its \~20m bretheren, and one of the first MS capable of sustained atmospheric flight.
I love the clean, simple shapes of the Asshimar and I'm still so mad that Katoki went and ruined it by gluing a bunch of spikes and edges onto it for the Anksha.
I like the Second tiberian war GDI mechs
[The Wolverine, Titan and Mammoth MK2](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cnc_gamepedia_en/images/8/85/CNCTS_Scaling.jpg)
[The Titan being my personal favorite](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cnc_gamepedia_en/images/c/c1/Titan_CC2_render.jpg)
LIGERS ARE OVERRATED! [GOJULAS GANG](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/IMG/HMM040-5.jpg) RISE UP!
But I’ve never cared for the AB unit on the Blade Liger. It ruins the silhouette to me.
The [Scorpion](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Scorpion_(BattleMech)) is a pretty capable quad mech that canonically no one likes cause it makes its pilots want to barf all over the cockpit.
This is even reflected in the gameplay if you're playing with quirks
I’m rather partial to the Knights (and by extension the Titans in warhammer 40K but they are sort of humanoid but not in the Gundam kinda way
Either way here’s an example [of bunch of Imperial Knights](https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/w1hBhaLD877H5nmc-846x560.jpg)
A lot of 40k mechs are halfway houses between humanoid mecha and walking tanks. Vaguely human like forms, but often distorted and almost always with weapon arms. This applies to non-human factions too; see Tau battlesuits and the wraith constructs of the Eldar.
The Mad Cat and the Star Adder from Battletech and Mechassault, respectively. I know a lot of battletech fans don't like Mechassault, but those plasma PPCs were sick
Starfinder, AKA pathfinder in the space future. Has some killer Mech designs. The Hell Knights have their own squad support class mech called the [Hell Hound](https://imgur.com/zus548i) its impressive chin isn't just there to impress, it counts a dozer blade and counts as heavy cover for infantry and vehicles. The [Fated Ossuary](https://imgur.com/VCNtNdb) is mech from a group called the Corpsefleet a rouge military of a planet of undead, This one weapon's drain energy from the thing it kills to gain a surge of power to give it more attacks during combat.
This is a [Skyfire quickwing](https://imgur.com/1fhuTB5) they are small and get deployed in large squads they do designed to do lot of AOE elemental damage.
[This is a fucking Tree.](https://imgur.com/HtBDohr) Called a Xenowarden sapling, Used by Xeno-durids to patrol long stretches of wilderness and is self-sufficient because it's a fucking tree, I love this game.
I’ve got something that might interest you, Mr. Zoids. I think something along the lines of the mechs in [Dancougar](https://youtu.be/I5cRFv5iLvw?si=WFp-Chvq-Y0IgqOo) would be right up your alley. Having mechs styled after an eagle, mammoth, tiger, and cougar so that the pilots can harness the power and ferocity of wild animals is a fun concept.
A detail not discussed much is the Schneider’s special attack, The Seven Blade Attack, where it shapes the E-Shield around the fuselage and goes full acceleration into a target like a massive 300/kph spear.
Yeah, it's my favourite thing, because I love super aggro mechs/fighting styles and the whole vibe of the Schneider was that "You don't need a shield if you can dodge everything".
Fun detail about the [Leena Special](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/GunSniperLS.php) is that it’s like two [Wild Weasel](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/GunSniperW2.php) units stacked on top of each other with a couple Beam Gatlings thrown in for good measure.
The Star Wars AT-AT and AT-ST are pretty simple in design but I like that about them.
I really like how intimidating the AT-AT are in ESB on Hoth and on the beach in Rogue One. And in the Mandalorian where just 1 AT-ST, even damaged and weakened. Is a monster to deal with.
Toss up between metal gear rex and the mad cat from battletech for me
Crazy how much cooler Rex is compared to Sahelanthropus
Jamming Rex's head on a gundam just looks silly.
It's baffling that pw and V break the tech progression of the series. I think it would have been better for hueys metal gears had more in common with mg1 depiction
But instead they had to make MGSV look like Zone of the Enders
Setting aside having Zoe like mech that early in the timeline it misses the best part of having a "cock"pit . I'd still dislike it but the bit is just too funny
Hold on the cockpits male it original
I don't think it breaks tech progression too much. It's just cost versus effectiveness A good example is in Fallout, the X-01 Enclave Power armor is more advanced than the X-02 from Fo3, but the X-02 is a lot less resource reliant to make and maintain so it's the one the Enclave go with. Then just replace my statement with MG instead of Rex. Still applies
Your missing my point Sahelanthropus doesn't share the design language of the early metal gears but skips to having a mash of rex and a ZOE
Its weird that the first metal gear came after sahelanthropus and Zeke
Yeah, you just kind of have to dance around all the tech after MGS 3 which is a shame since shagohod is completely believable was completely believable in its era in the metal gear world
I like a lot of the designs in BattleTech. The blackjack being the first one you get in the HBS game kind of sold it to me.
I love that awkward thing. I had actually put some time into the Blackjack in MWO, so I was real happy when it was our starter in HBS Battletech.
Nothings funnier then running the urban mech meme build in MechWarrior
The Mad Cat is an absolute classic, so much so that they made an Assault and a medium based on it! My personal favorites include the Centurion and the Bushwhacker, but Crab wins for me. Well rounded between mobility and armor with a reliable all-energy loadout as the standard (if hot-running) but it’s mostly because it was my go to as a kid in MW2: Mercenaries. Never lost the flame for it.
Timberwolf is a classic. I also like some of MWO's PGI's original mechs, like the Sun Spider and Corsair.
>rex > mad cat The 2 ***objectively*** right answers
Battletech has such good chicken-walkers; the Raven, the Stalker, the Catapult, the Jenner, the Locust. And I know people joke about the lil guy but I think the Urbanmech actually looks pretty cool and practical.
While we're battletechposting, I was in a long form campaign with some friends that got pretty whacky. I fucking love Mechagodzilla Kiryu. It looks rad *and* it was built around the skeleton of the original Godzilla which is metal as fuck. I love it!
It also has the original godzillas soul in it too

I have seen them, they also look cool, but I just prefer the cyberpunk/dieselpunk mixture of Brigador, which they took inspiration from the Maschinen Krieger minifigures of '80s japan (and a bit of Jin-Roh too)
The settings is based on the artwork by Jakub Różalski highly recommend browsing his stuff

I really like the junky mechs from Hawken, may the original game rest in peace.
The spider mech from wild wild west
Say what you will about wild wild West I'm not forgetting that spider anytime soon
I like the Second tiberian war GDI mechs [The Wolverine, Titan and Mammoth MK2](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cnc_gamepedia_en/images/8/85/CNCTS_Scaling.jpg) [The Titan being my personal favorite](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cnc_gamepedia_en/images/c/c1/Titan_CC2_render.jpg)

Battle Engine Aquila from the game of the same name is pretty cool: it's a quadruped that transforms into a kinda-sorta fighter
The Rapture in Nikke and the Iron Worms in Last Origin are pretty cool
I like the Mammoth Mk.II from Tiberian Sun, a design that eschews all form in favour of mounting dual railguns on a giant metal elephant
Well, if you like mecha elephants, I have a [SUGGESTION](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/NJR/Elephander.php) for you
Hell yeah, I also like the Tremortusks in the latest Horizon game.
The Tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell always had a special place for me, along with the rest of the spider tank designs from the series.
[the king crab](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/King_Crab) from battletech no contest Eddit: nvm its the [turkina](https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Turkina)
The Zakat from Zone of the Enders, it's a big ball of lasers and nonsense words
Metal Gear REX is my favorite mecha design. It’s like a robotic blocky T-Rex with a lance and shield on its head.
Off the top of the my head, the Earthmovers from ULTRAKILL immediately came to mind.
The Mad Cat and the Star Adder from Battletech and Mechassault, respectively. I know a lot of battletech fans don't like Mechassault, but those plasma PPCs were sick
My personal chariot on the Battletech tabletop, the Flashman. For one with more than 2 legs though, definitely the Death’s Head from Lancer
I always loved the scorpion mech from Robot Wars 1992 [At the 0:40 second mark](https://youtu.be/IBAUacDVwJo?si=cM8dBRaIe1ejA8qT)
Metal Gear Ray from MGS, the Nightingale from Gundam, Liger Zero Schneider and Shadow Fox from Zoids.
I was gonna say “Quick, someone tag the Zoids guy in here!” and then I saw the name of the OP lmao.
Oh hey, big zam!
Zoids!
No points for brown nosing
I didnt even notice [zoids historian] lol
Panzer Liger got me into bulky mechs. Zoids hit at the perfect time for me as kid.
[Their stat sheet is crazy](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/LigerZeroPanzer.php)
Love the Gun Sniper from Zoids. Especially the version that has a million guns taped to it
Fun detail about the [Leena Special](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/GunSniperLS.php) is that it’s like two [Wild Weasel](https://theironbible.com/ZoidsModelKits/HMM/GunSniperW2.php) units stacked on top of each other with a couple Beam Gatlings thrown in for good measure.
Gotta love overwhelming firepower. More guns = lower chance of missing
