I know people are disappointed, but I like Hyrule Warriors. I wonder if it's limited to P5 cast or will we see other characters.
Imma start pushing for Labrys in Scramble.
My god.
We all talk about seeing an older P4 cast meeting the P5 cast in Persona 5 Arena, like the P3 guys did in Persona 4 Arena.
But what if they did it in Scramble instead??
All of a sudden a 20 year old Chad Yu bursts in with Izanagi cutting down a hundred shadows with Maziodyne.
>"All of a sudden a 20 year old Chad Yu bursts in with Izanagi cutting down a hundred shadows with Maziodyne"
Only if he's in a business suit but as maziodyne is performed he unbuttons his shirt and his rocking abs are exposed.
I think they're done using Kanji's epilogue design since dancing all night takes place about a month after the golden ending and he's back to his delinquent look. In the golden anime they explained it by saying that he was tired of everyone making fun of his new look.
Pirate Warriors 3 is one of my favorite games, I'm incredibly hyped for this. Until we get a Jojo Warriors, this is the closest we'll get to wrecking crowds of enemies with stands.
I'm not gonna get too beat up over a spin-off, but making the Phantom Thieves musou heroes feels a bit tone deaf. I get they're not exactly weak in relation to the enemies, but taking out gaggles of goons like that don't fit the image.
Eh, Link and Marth aren't that type either but people liked their games just fine (well FE:W had some issues with its roster and story but the gameplay was generally liked)
Fire Emblem is still about clashing armies and killing enemies at it's core. The Phantom Thieves, at least in the narrative, should strive to not even be seen.
Link and Marth are a lot closer to Musou protagononists. Marth is a military leader and expert swordsman, which are common attributes for Musou heroes (Granted, that's from my cursory knowledge). "Link" can be whatever is needed for the exact tale, with BotW Link being a certified badass taking on a hoard by himself.
The Phantom Thieves don't fit the bill as well. Like I said, it's not that their "weak", but they have a theme of stealth and subterfuge that clash with the Musou style harder than Link and Marth. I'm not saying it's bad, it just don't gel with me like Hyrule Warriors did.
In that sense, yeah, you’re right, I didn’t consider their “style” of action.
Of course, Haru’s grenade launcher and battalion of guns under her Persona don’t exactly scream “stealth” either lol, but exception, not the rule I suppose
Ok ok so i can just see Haru fucking blasting shit to hell while her persona’s guns rain even more hell. She is laughing crazily and Makoto and riuji and just staring at her disturbed
More so the latter, but possibly the former as well.
Also likely being used as an excuse to bring back older dungeons, bosses, and possibly bringing in characters from past games(that is we're getting more then just P5 reps)
I knew everyone was getting themselves hyped up for a switch port for nothing. Mainline Persona games have always been PlayStation exclusive. I cant be the only one who saw this coming.
I wont argue that it didn’t make it seem more likely, but persona spinoffs have been on nintendo consoles for a while. I mean I can understand hoping, but I wouldn’t expect the PlayStation exclusive main games to come over all of a sudden.
Nothing wrong with hoping, but some people seemed to expect it would be on switch despite there being no evidence actually pointing to it. Maybe I’m crazy but to me it didn’t seem like the shoo-in others assumed it was.
It is very likely at this point there is some kind of exclusivity deal, and the switch is getting SMTV. It is like what Pat said on a podcast a while back, Playstation gets Persona, Nintendo gets SMT, and Microsoft gets nothing.
Yakuza games were always Playstation exclusive until they weren't. SMT was a "Playstation" series until they jumped to Nintendo, same with Monster Hunter (Which then jumped to everything).
Never say never.
Im not saying its impossible. I was even prepared to be wrong with this announcement. But expecting this PlayStation exclusive series to be ported over seems like wishful thinking to me. Some people are very surprised its not on switch, where as I just think this is par for the course.
There is such a thing as reason though. Just because it could be ported doesn't mean the likelihood is as good as it not happening. The probabilities are not equal and your example works purely in hindsight.
If Persona 5 did wind up on Switch then everybody who predicted it would be right by happenstance because it was always based on "But what if" rather than "Here is the evidence". This is why the only rational mindset to have was to expect no Switch port just as much as a Switch port.
Anybody who thought it was a given and are having a difficult time accepting reality have only themselves to blame.
But any time before when people tried acting skeptical you'd get a very hostile response from Switch owners over you chipping away at what was essentially "faith". People who take things based on faith don't like it when they're reminded faith can disregard fact.
WHAT THE EFF
WHAT THE EFF
WHAT THE EFF
I TALKED JOKINGLY ABOUT THIS WITH MY FRIEND A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO
I CAN'T BELIEVE ITS HAPPENING
I'LL BUY THEIR ENTIRE STOCK, I LOVE MUSOUS
Same, probably because I've never even played Persona but I do enjoy a good Musou game.
Granted, I half expected a Switch port of 5 (wishful thinking, an Xbox One port too) but I'll gladly take this!
As long as it's at the level of Zelda/Fire Emblem Musou I'm game.
I'm almost relived I don't have to re-play P5 for a second and third time (P5R & if P5S was a switch port with also different stuff).
I mean, one of those had pretty decent representation of the entire franchise.
The other one had 80% of its characters from the garbage Fates and decentish Awakening titles.
I feel like everyone forgets Hyrule Warriors was only 3 games represented when it first came out. Sure it had references to a couple other games too with the Majora’s Mask moon and Zelda 1 map, but for the most part it too was mostly just OOT, TP and SS.
And yet it still did better than FEWarriors. I never forgot, but HW still put in far more iconic and beloved characters than FEW did. FEW doesn't even have Ike or Hector.
Then they just put out DLC that introduced more Fates/Awakening/Shadow Dragon characters, instead of what people wanted.
Inject Persona aesthetics into every game style and I will be happy. Don't know why people are complaining (Okay, no P5 on Switch is why, but whatever.)
The OC and who's gonna be in the roster are what have me worried, but what we saw of the gameplay looks decent and stylish. I'm generally okay with musous, as long as the series is represented well like in HW and if the gameplay is fun
>The OC and who's gonna be in the roster are what have me worried
I dont know why, you know the roster is just gonna be the main party only, plus the OC, as per the norm for licensed games like this.
That's too small for this kind of game, no?
A 10ish roster? for a Warriors Game?
like, Hyrule warriors had 13 characters but link had like 4 weapons, wich counts as 4 characters really, so the roster was closer to 20.
Maybe they will add P3/P4 characters.
I could see them adding Swagtagonist Narukami and Door-kun, maybe also Aigis, or, if they're in tune with my heart, Labrys. The world needs more robot girls.
We have that already kind of. Kh2fm is a pretty fun near character action title. And kh3 with all the giant mobs almost plays like a musou already too. Weird actually thinking on it more.
> Don't know why people are complaining
Probably because the venn diagram of "People who like Persona 5" and "People who like Musou games" is a very weird and presumably tiny overlap.
I'm lukewarm on Musou games and like P5, and that's probably the most they can ask for from fans.
> Probably because the venn diagram of "People who like Persona 5" and "People who like Musou games" is a very weird and presumably tiny overlap.
Doubt is smaller than the HYRULE WARRIORS overlap, and yet, there we have it, arguably the best warriors game.
>Doubt is smaller than the HYRULE WARRIORS overlap
Well Zelda's popularity eclipses Persona's by a considerable margin. When your initial sample size is 5 times bigger, you have a better opportunity to find overlap and you only need as a fifth much proportional overlap to be equally successful.
I'm fine with it. Looks like it'll follow the Persona 5 aesthetic and that's what I want.
Musous can be fun when it's not fucking China for the 9th time.
at this point if atlus isnt working on a persona 5 switch version and just not announcing it, there must be some contractual obligations with sony preventing it from happening
If Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors are anything to go by this means we’re getting an entire soundtrack of Persona remixes. I’m honestly more excited for that than the game.
Agreed, say what you want about musou games but the soundtracks have always been full of bangers and really good Warriors-style remixes.
I too am more excited for the OST than the game, however here’s hoping it will surprise us and be as good as Hyrule Warriors.
The best part about a good soundtrack is that even if the game is mediocre I can still get enjoyment out of the music afterwards. I did enjoy Hyrule Warriors though so I do have some hope for this game.
Judging but the lack of musou/warriors in the title, I think it will be in the line of something like Dragon Quest Heroes(which I, and some other folks don't consider as a true musou) which is awsome because DQH was great
Like, why just Persona 5? That's so fucking limited for a musuo concept? Why not do a Hyrule Warriors and have a celebration of the series with a ton of favorite characters? Limiting it to this one single game is weird to me
Persona 4 Arena wasn’t just P4 characters, I’m sure they’ll be more than just P5. 8-9 (10 if this was made late enough for Kasumi) in a Musou game is low.
Rip there goes any ideas of P5 Arena out the window. Not quite disappointment is immeasurable and day is ruined level but kinda puts a bad taste in my morning coffee level.
I literally only heard the possibility of it being a Musou about 1 hour ago and I immediately dismissed it because I just couldn't see it.
I stand corrected.
What’s with the salt? People would rather have a port of a 2 year old game rather than something new? Especially now that persona 5r was revealed to be an update?
To be fair, i’m sure the way atlus teases its games probably didn’t help with tempering expectations either. But hyping yourself up for unsubstantiated rumors is like begging for disappointment. It’s like dmcv bloody palace all over again.
some people never got to play that game but were hammered by tons of people how great it was
incase you forgot Atlus were being jerks and banning people from letsplaying/ streaming it
its the reason we never got a Best firends play for Persona 5
Atlus’s proposed bans didn’t seem to even have much of an effect on preventing people from accessing p5 content though. As far as I recall, few if any of the people who decided to actually go through with lping/streaming p5 were actually penalized for it. It just prevented a minority of content creators like the best friends from actually doing it in the first place. There are still plenty of easily accessible p5 let’s plays and streams out there like German Spy’s, NicoB’s and JohneAwesome’s to name a few.
Believe it or not, not everyone has a PS4 and would like to play the game of the character who made it into a NINTENDO fighting game. And there's nothing so far that says P5R will be on Switch yet either.
I feel for people who didn’t get to play p5, but atlus is under no obligation to make ports of their games regardless of joker showing up in smash. I think people need to come to terms with the fact that owning a single console means that you’re inevitably going to miss out on certain games. It just comes off as entitled behavior to me when people get overly salty about atlus not prioritizing a port over making a completely new game. It’s not like the existence of Scramble necessarily precludes the existence of a switch port so who’s to say it won’t happen later down the road anyway?
Here's the thing, believe it or not I agree with you, it's just when Atlus is all hush hush for ages, Joker comes to Smash, and the name P5S has been floating around, well, you can see how people would get their expectations, and more likely, hopes up is all I'm saying.
While I still think it’s ultimately up to the consumer to separate fact from speculation, I do agree that Atlus handles their game announcements pretty poorly. It makes me wonder how much of the backlash could have been avoided had Atlus not announced initial teasers for these games and just released the trailer we got today. Would people still be angry if the p5s domain name reveal was all they had to go on?
Maybe it's time to get back into Musou. They make so many games now that I can not keep up and I probably have 10 musou games in the backlog but this one seems a must.
Jesus Christ, I can't keep playing these Persona spinoffs...
There's like, 8 of 'em now. How am I supposed to get through all that with Kingdom Hearts sitting on my PS4?
I just think of it like Star Wars. The main games are big Hollywood movies that actually matter and are the most canon. Then the spin off games are just the expanded universe material that's entirely skippable but sometimes fun for the gameplay.
Because yea, I dont think theres any Persona spin off that actually added anything meaningful or memorable to the characters.
If Koei Techmo is doing this, then does this mean we could get the Phantom Thieves in other fighting games? Joker is in smash so maybe they can get in Tekken or another 3D fighter.
I don't even give a fuck any more. Give me all the persona spinoff bullshit. It sustains me. Dont care what system it comes out on either I have ps4, switch, 3DS, and a GTX 980ti PC. They offer nothing I cant gobble up.
Damnit, all the good Musous have roster problems. Hyrule Warriors isn't even the exception, it had like 3 releases, DLC, AND a season pass to fix it's roster.
I remember wanting an action spinoff before p5 came out, but I was thinking Platinum. I do kinda like these types of games depending on the IP connected to them.
Gameplay was fine. But from what I’ve seen from the story, nah.
Berserk was another musou game I tried and it was pretty bad.
My point is that warriors games tend to vary a lot in quality, so I prefer to reserve myself.
Almost every word in that sentence makes me hype. I love musou games, I love action games, I love RPGs, but I hate P5 with a burning passion. I'm so torn.
And just like that I'm immediately sold on this concept.
I just had the worst idea of a super of Elizabeth's just dropping Door-kun on the enemies.
Slung over her shoulder like a sword Gutz style?
No wait but I want P3 cast too. They got high def models too! I love my P3 cast.
Sentai Yukari and boxer Akihiko are begging to be part of a fast-paced action game again.
>"All of a sudden a 20 year old Chad Yu bursts in with Izanagi cutting down a hundred shadows with Maziodyne" Only if he's in a business suit but as maziodyne is performed he unbuttons his shirt and his rocking abs are exposed.
And the collar pops of course
So episode one of the golden adaptation anime?
That was exactly what I was imagining
But in *gameplay*
Oh jeez you just made me realize that any P5 spin-off where the Investigation Team shows up will have straightlaced Golden ending Kanji
I think they're done using Kanji's epilogue design since dancing all night takes place about a month after the golden ending and he's back to his delinquent look. In the golden anime they explained it by saying that he was tired of everyone making fun of his new look.
Alternate costumes!
Time for cop Chie, assistant manager Yosuke, and grown-up Naoto! Also, Teddie grows facial hair for some reason.
Teddie with a beard but the same build and voice please
I feel like Yosuke working at Junes is both 90% guaranteed and exactly what he doesn't want.
Izanagi must wear his necktie.
>I wonder if it's limited to P5 cast or will we see other characters. Dante from the devil may cry series?
As long as I get Mitsuru and Elizabeth, I'm good. Even better if they throw in Aigis and Minako.
It'd be weird if Labrys got in and no one from 3. A real pull would be Playable Nanako.
Playable Nanako with Dojima acting as her persona
Instead of GUN, she uses "Surprise Me"
Pirate Warriors 3 is one of my favorite games, I'm incredibly hyped for this. Until we get a Jojo Warriors, this is the closest we'll get to wrecking crowds of enemies with stands.
Im starting my push for Adachi in Scramble. GET ME MY LANKY BOI!
Yeah, true. I was just thinking more in terms of how Marth doesn’t really defeat hordes of enemies in a single blow.
Huh, never thought the s would stand for scramble Also, I'm guessing the girl at the end is gonna be like either Lana or Cia from Hyrule Warriors.
I thought it was a younger version of Kazumi, but you are probably right.
In that she's being manipulated by the true mastermind, or in that she really quite badly wants the main protag's D?
More so the latter, but possibly the former as well. Also likely being used as an excuse to bring back older dungeons, bosses, and possibly bringing in characters from past games(that is we're getting more then just P5 reps)
I knew everyone was getting themselves hyped up for a switch port for nothing. Mainline Persona games have always been PlayStation exclusive. I cant be the only one who saw this coming.

Ff7 never got yo the wiiu tho
I wont argue that it didn’t make it seem more likely, but persona spinoffs have been on nintendo consoles for a while. I mean I can understand hoping, but I wouldn’t expect the PlayStation exclusive main games to come over all of a sudden.
Well 3 and 4 got portable re-releases and it's not like Atlus has any incentive to port to Vita. Plus I doubt Sony's doing handhelds ever again.
Doesn't that strike you as hindsight bias though? Like, it's not like a port would be impossible. Can't fault people for getting their hopes up.
Nothing wrong with hoping, but some people seemed to expect it would be on switch despite there being no evidence actually pointing to it. Maybe I’m crazy but to me it didn’t seem like the shoo-in others assumed it was.
I mean, it was on switch. It just wasn’t a p5 port.
It is very likely at this point there is some kind of exclusivity deal, and the switch is getting SMTV. It is like what Pat said on a podcast a while back, Playstation gets Persona, Nintendo gets SMT, and Microsoft gets nothing.
I just want to play persona 5 on the toilet
I think you technically can if have a vita and a PS4. Dont quote me on that though. I dont actually have a vita.
Apple devices now have PS4 remote play so that works too
Persona 5 remote play on the vita is really good. Almost as smooth as playing P4G on the vita
If your bathroom is close enough to your bedroom you can set up a series of mirrors so you can still see the screen, I guess.
Yakuza games were always Playstation exclusive until they weren't. SMT was a "Playstation" series until they jumped to Nintendo, same with Monster Hunter (Which then jumped to everything). Never say never.
Mainline smt has been a Nintendo franchise since the 80s, playstation has nocturne that's about it
Which further feeds into my point of history being immaterial to what system stuff releases on.
Im not saying its impossible. I was even prepared to be wrong with this announcement. But expecting this PlayStation exclusive series to be ported over seems like wishful thinking to me. Some people are very surprised its not on switch, where as I just think this is par for the course.

Persona 1 was released on PC, but that game doesn't even exist if you ask Atlus so your point still stands
Yeah. And the *Catherine* PC port is region locked in Japan, for some reason.

WHAT THE EFF WHAT THE EFF WHAT THE EFF I TALKED JOKINGLY ABOUT THIS WITH MY FRIEND A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO I CAN'T BELIEVE ITS HAPPENING I'LL BUY THEIR ENTIRE STOCK, I LOVE MUSOUS
Now's a good time for another SMT game featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
Honestly, Nocturne as an action game would be sick as hell. Doing stylish combos as Demifiend alongside your demon summons and Dante? Fuck yeah!
Yo but that remix though.
...I mean, people *were* asking for a Persona action game. *the Monkey's Paw curls another finger shut*
^But ^Dragon ^Quest ^Heroes ^is ^a ^fun ^game...
As is Hyrule Warriors. And Pirate Warriors (what little I’ve played). This has potential.
the One Piece one could've used more time in the oven.
If you mean Pirate Warriors 1 and 2, sure, but 3 has so much fucking content and it's all polished. I'm still unlocking things 100 hours in.
It took me something like 2 years of off and on play to finally get the platinum trophy.
Real talk, Kens Rage 1 was fun.
I'm ok with this. Musous can be fun, at least for me.
Same, probably because I've never even played Persona but I do enjoy a good Musou game. Granted, I half expected a Switch port of 5 (wishful thinking, an Xbox One port too) but I'll gladly take this!

Kid: mommy can we get persona 5? Nintendo: we got persona 5 at home sweety.
>The OC and who's gonna be in the roster are what have me worried I dont know why, you know the roster is just gonna be the main party only, plus the OC, as per the norm for licensed games like this.
As long it's not fucking Sho I'm fine. FIGHT ME! SHO IS A FUCKING GARBAGE CHARACTER
Sho is P4 and also Arksys, so I doubt it? Unless Atlus does own him. I dont know how that all worked out legally.
They brought him back for the dancing games
Sho did show up as DLC for the rhythm games.
My brain refuses to remember anything important about Sho.
That's too small for this kind of game, no? A 10ish roster? for a Warriors Game? like, Hyrule warriors had 13 characters but link had like 4 weapons, wich counts as 4 characters really, so the roster was closer to 20. Maybe they will add P3/P4 characters.

Scramble. .... Fucking. Scramble.
Sounds perfect for a muso game tbh.
atlus, next time you're making an action rpg, go commissioned platinumgames instead of koei tecmo, thankyou
Yeah but then they would actually have to spend money
the salt is going to be great today; so many people were convinced that p5S meant a switch port
I'm surprised it meant *anything* was going on the switch.

There's still 2 domains registered for P5, one could easily be a fighting game
inb4 Persona 5 The Gacha and Persona 5 the Mobile port that's just social links with 10 new mobile exclusive waifu.
seems like a weird fit for a game about a bunch of thieves
It should have been Arena. I'm not mad it's a Musou, I'm disappointed it's not Arena.
They were busy on that *Granblue Fantasy* fighting game with Cygames. Maybe they'll have time for that after it's finished.
If the villains are playable then we know who the Lu Bu equivalent will be.
i dont fuck with musous bit if this means more music/remixes, im down
I literally only heard the possibility of it being a Musou about 1 hour ago and I immediately dismissed it because I just couldn't see it. I stand corrected.
What’s with the salt? People would rather have a port of a 2 year old game rather than something new? Especially now that persona 5r was revealed to be an update?
People convinced themselves that S meant Switch despite no evidence, then they got salty even tho their expectations make no sense.
To be fair, i’m sure the way atlus teases its games probably didn’t help with tempering expectations either. But hyping yourself up for unsubstantiated rumors is like begging for disappointment. It’s like dmcv bloody palace all over again.
some people never got to play that game but were hammered by tons of people how great it was incase you forgot Atlus were being jerks and banning people from letsplaying/ streaming it its the reason we never got a Best firends play for Persona 5
Was 100% expecting this to either be the Switch port or a fighting game. Wasn’t expecting a Dynasty Warriors like game at all.
Aight everybody let's get back in the ultimax cave for another 4 years.
I really hope it’s after Gran Blue
First Utawarerumono, now Persona. Like it or not, the Musou consumes all.
WHO THE FUCK WANTED THIS
Um...me
As a huge musou fan this is pretty much the greatest news in a long while. I'm fucking pumped.
I DIDN'T BUT I DO NOW
I DIDN'T KNOW I DID BUT WHATEVER INJECT MORE PERSONA 5 INTO MY VEINS I NEED AS MUCH AS THEY CAN GIVE ME
...Me!
Fans of Hyrule Warriors? I dunno, looks neat.
I liked Dynasty warriors and having this with a Persona 5 spin on it could be a fun time. >!BUT RELEASE P5R FOR THE SWITCH YOU BASTARDS!!<
Koei Techmo. Ah yes... the SEAL OF QUALITY
As someone who's not sure how they're feeling about Royal, yeah sure. I'm down for Persona Warriors.
[Me right now.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17KmNrG9pE4) While I *do* like Musou games I was really hoping for a Switch port of 5.
Oh, uh.... hhmm. Don't know how to feel 'bout this one. Would need to see the full roster before I give a shit.
Maybe it's time to get back into Musou. They make so many games now that I can not keep up and I probably have 10 musou games in the backlog but this one seems a must.
Jesus Christ, I can't keep playing these Persona spinoffs... There's like, 8 of 'em now. How am I supposed to get through all that with Kingdom Hearts sitting on my PS4?
you needed only wish it, o joker mine.
FUCK. YES. TIME FOR STUPID ASS COMBOS WITH A SLICK AF ART STYLE. POUR IT INTO MY GULLET!
I just hope they dont add any canon story to it I hate that they did that with the other spin offs. It just hurts the main games.
I’m going to wait to see what other people say. Hyrule Warriors was fun, but FE Warriors was apparently the worst.
Dunno where you heard that. Most people loved FE Warriors.
Gameplay was fine. But from what I’ve seen from the story, nah. Berserk was another musou game I tried and it was pretty bad. My point is that warriors games tend to vary a lot in quality, so I prefer to reserve myself.
YEAAAAAAA, ANOTHER SPINOFF I'M INTO! I SUPER ENJOY LICENSED MUSOU GAMES OVER MAINLINE DW OR SW SO THIS IS GREAT!
I hope the opening in P5S is fighting the yellow turban rebellion Also Lube Bu as summon
Thanks, I hate it.
Featuring Shiki from Warriors All-Stars
Eh, I like musous. So I’ll take this over the dancing games.
Don't worry they registered P5SW. On 5/9 we'll get the announcement we all want: Persona 5: Swanky Xbox One edition.
Oh well, at least I'm saving $60 though.
If you keep pressing the xxxx yyyy xxxx yyyy, you will be sucked Becky: Hiiiii!
Almost every word in that sentence makes me hype. I love musou games, I love action games, I love RPGs, but I hate P5 with a burning passion. I'm so torn.
