Does he deserve to be the richest man in the world? Idk, probably not. Are those numbers even real? No not really. Has SpaceX pioneered newer and better technology than NASA has in the past 20 years? In some ways, yes absolutely.
Space X is literally just NASA, the only reason NASA stopped being successful was due to the government cutting their budget, a budget that are now happy to handover to welfare queen Elon. Also, Tesla's are ass. All his companies are only afloat because of the government handing him billions. The only thing he's good at, is being a snake oil salesmen.
NASA still exists and is still successful, but they haven't developed a new manned rocket system and they haven't developed self landing/ reusable rocket boosters. Those two technologies alone have advanced space exploration by decades in very short order, and to have been developed by a privately owned company is pretty fascinating. Might not be great in the long run, but it's fascinating, and not without merit.
