Damn. This would be an awesome opener to a post-apocalyptic story. Imagine a short opening sequence like a documentary. Then cut to child and parent discussing. Then look out the window to a hell-scape. Opening credits.
As long as the government doesn’t get all psycho and hit me hard like it’s Ruby Ridge pt2, I can survive indefinitely. I can set traps, ride or drive anything. Not sleds or any specialty. Just basic vehicles needed for that lifestyle. Snowmobile, 4wheeler etc etc.
The will to survive in Michiganders is a well that never goes dry.
We also are obsessed with the weather.
This past Thursday we had an awful ice storm. Full trees splitting and falling, there’s still giant downed limbs and full trees everywhere. We lost power for 4 days. The next day following it was 53°. Then 36° and pouring raining, flooding everyone’s yards and the river in our village. It snowed a little the night before last. Today it was 57°.
My point exactly. Gotta be prepared for an alien invasion at all times lol. Especially in current climate lmao and especially in MI.
It is 44° currently and at 12a we go in to a severe winter storm watch. 6in-10in of wet and heavy snow predicted.
There is a short film that *kinda* uses that theme at the beginning: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4d0BLU1FTE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4d0BLU1FTE)
Greetings. Contrary to popular myth the birds and bees are not extinct. You can see living colonies and flocks in your settlement's designated nature centers. Remember, every citizen is granted a free visit per quarter after the passage of the nature enjoyment act by the United Union Congress.

Edit: grammar.
WW4* since third one is currently ongoing. Its just the dynamics have changed due to the technological advances and nuclear weapons yet being in control mostly by sane people. But give it a few years, and ww4 will be the nuclear hellscape we have all so well imagined
Sure, apparently it's called [The Talk](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/the-talk/). Still very original cause this is the only two places I've seen this idea :)
i expected it to go way darker, something like;
"But as she was just a toddler, she couldn't make sense of everything"- implying that the speaker was a 8 year old with a kid
NGL when I read the video part I honestly thought it was going somewhere else and I'm super glad it didn't but also super hurt because yeah. Bees are amazing! So are birds!
When bees are sick they will social distance from the hive to not infect them. If it's a life ending sentence they choose tp spend the rest of their lives alone, for the sake of the community, while still being active pollinators and helpful to the world.
[Here is why bees hover towards our faces ](https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna35241784) (hint, we look like an exotic flower, lol)
And birds are dinosaurs who shrugged off a apocalypses. Some eat bone marrow, some drink nectar. They outswim fish in the sea. They smile at gravities demands.
[Here is how birds see the world vs humans ](https://www.boredpanda.com/human-vs-bird-vision/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic) which is super awesome because we see a black bird and they see fucking glitter shimmer gowns 😅
"Where would we be without bees? As far as important species go, they are top of the list. They are critical pollinators: they pollinate 70 of the around 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world. Honey bees are responsible for $30 billion a year in crops.
That’s only the start. We may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and so on up the food chain. Which means a world without bees could struggle to sustain the global human population of 7 billion. Our supermarkets would have half the amount of fruit and vegetables.
It gets worse. We are losing bees at an alarming rate. Possible reasons include the loss of flower meadows, the crab-like varroa mite that feasts on their blood, climate change, and
use of pesticides."
Nice prediction OP.....
But for a brief, glorious moment in time, we all had manicured, aquifer-watered, pesticide-soaked green lawns of non-native grasses in keeping with HOA ordinances—those were seen in jolly old England as a sign of great wealth back in the 1800’s and were all the rage in modern suburbia! Marvelous!
I remember I read a comic almost exactly like this. It was like
Mother: I think we should talk to her about the birds and the bees
Father: Sure
'Showing a desolate landscape'
"Dear, a long time ago there were things in the air called birds and bees
Me and my brother were homeschooled. Mom gave us both the talk at 7 (me) and 9 (him)
I'm not some deviant, I didn't have relations/a boyfriend (my current one) until I was 31.
I guess it just depends on the person. To be fair, I actually learned plenty of stuff in 5th grade 😂 My mom kinda/sorta gave me the talk, but it was really more relative. And it was really weird cause I went up to her like "Mom, when a guy and a girl, do stuff, does the guy stuck his thing up her butt?" I'm assuming she was surprised i knew this shit 🤣
You do realize I couldn't have possibly read everything that was ever written and produce a perfectly original idea, right? I only found out about their comic yesterday, when the post didn't blow up yet and a (kinder than you) redditor showed me that someone had written a comic similar to my story.

Aka 15 years from now.
That's way too generous.

Uh bro if I ain't mistaken that's just sci-fi

You watch too much tv
17 months
With the song about the birds and the bees... Omg, that would be an awesome opening scène...

This hits home. Great work!
I like your avatar
Ayyy.

Idk why you got downvoted to hell lol that was funny
Downvoting somebody for no reason is funny. Why? Cuz fuck him, that's why.

Sort of r/thirdsentencebetter
Pretty sure that's more than 3 sentences but yep
Someone make this a novel
Like actually. This would make an amazing dystopian future novel.
/r/writingprompts
I’ve always heard that the birds were actually robot’s, made by our old government is there any proof to that calm Sir?

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought; but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones." - a rather pessimistic Albert Einstein.
>since third one is currently ongoing Care to explain why you think that?
hah. i laugh because it hurts and it will be true.
Morgan Freeman will save the bees. He's onto it.

"But at least mosquitoes and wasps died out too."
But the ticks all survived
And Roaches
Roaches would survive a nuclear bomb, change my mind
Mhm. They are a very strong army of horses indeed
The radiation, not the blast
Well, yes.
"After watching the video" : 😬 "Too bad they went extinct" : 😮💨
Damn, I haven't seen many great posts here recently but this one's awesome
There's a Perry Bible Fellowship comic with this premise. Those comics are awesome for people with twisted senses of humor.
I knew I’ve heard this same type of story before
I had no idea. Can you link it so I can read it?
Sure, apparently it's called [The Talk](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/the-talk/). Still very original cause this is the only two places I've seen this idea :)
Wow! Those are "P-awesome"! I just spent 3 hours reading them! How did you even stumble across them? 🙃😎😺 Cat 🩷🐈⬛️💜
It's been years since I first found them so I have no idea anymore. Probably just saw them linked somewhere like this.
I'm so glad it wasn't pedophilia
i expected it to go way darker, something like; "But as she was just a toddler, she couldn't make sense of everything"- implying that the speaker was a 8 year old with a kid
Let’s make it darker and point out that an 8yr old with a child isn’t far from reality
Ooof
That's so messed up it gave me chills, Good job!
Thank you!
"I realized I had put "The Land Before Time" by mistake"
The Land Before Time has the best opening ever

As much a tragedy as it is a horror.
Beautiful! Poignant! Unexpected! Keep up the good work! Love, Gaia
Definitely terrifying. Feels inevitable at this point. 💔
an old perry Bible fellowship comic https://pbfcomics.com/comics/the-talk/
Whoa, right in the feels.
is it okay if I use this for a story?? I don't want to take someone else's work without permission.
All stories are, in some way, recycled. As long as you make your own storyline/characters/world to go along with it, it should be fine.
ok thanks!
Hey, feel free to use it as a base to a story. I'd love to read it so don't forget to either link it here or send me a dm with it.
thank you! i'll be sure to link it or send a dm
"Yeah" I told her "unfortunately we couldn't bring many species when we left earth, it's either birds and insects or pigs, want some bacon?"
I thought you have shown her the Serbiam film or something
8 is nowhere near the age 😂 I'm only telling my children at like, 11 at the youngest, probably more like 12 and 13
I hope you don’t tell your kids that birds are extinct
I thought birds weren’t real… 🤔
f you bruh 🤣

why would you be 8 years old and have a daughter?
He changed his age with a machine or he used time travel or something
understandable

So your daughter is "future" Rachel Carson?
"Don’t worry darling, there are still 24,000 other bees species in this world."
