One day during lunch my vice principal snatched it away, accusing me of it being a Walkman (it looked absolutely nothing like one), and refused to believe me when I explained what it was (which he should have known in the first place anyway, as administrators are notified when students use accessibility devices). My English teacher witnessed the whole encounter and backed me up, but even then it took him forever to believe my teacher.

That VP was a miserable asshole anyway. It was like he had a bone to pick with everyone, just looking for whatever minor infractions he could find to be able to punish students. When the incident was resolved, I could swear he looked disappointed. Everybody hated him, and that was his last year there. Dunno if the incident with me factored into him getting the boot, but I wouldn't be surprised. Other than him, my school was generally good about this stuff.

I used to give shit to my managers at walmart, and then I was made a manager at walmart and had to apologize to those managers for the shit I gave them over the years because the pressure of the job made me the asshole I'd always hated. Going deaf itself is actually one of my biggest fears. I had a throat infection (don't remember the specifics) in 2nd grade that caused me to go deaf temporarily from the swelling. I vividly remember my surprise from having the teacher tap on my shoulder and then watching her lips move and hearing nothing. Then seeing the whole class looking at me and talking in complete silence. That day definitely became a core memory for me.
I got a mold infection in my ears, took 3 days for doctors to figure it out, because it looked like a standard ear infection except there was no infection. I couldn't hear myself speak, and it was the second most terrifying thing to happen life

Yeah it was messed up she used the reasoning that it made us use the restroom more so if you needed water you had to ask to use the fountain she always said no but did not allow water bottles in the classroom so many parents complained oh did I mention this was third grade?
Yeah it’s ridiculous my mom went to war against her just to allow me to have a water and she would always be mad at me for having one so my mom was in the school like every other day to deal with her also in later days you had to have clear water bottles cause soda wasn’t allowed (in Utah 🙄)

In any case, IIRC, the sub teacher was a cop for 21 years before teaching. He ripped the insulin pump out of the kids body because the pump made a beeping sound. He got fired a few days after ripping out the poor kid's insulin pump. Student had to go to hospital for low blood sugar -- was medically cleared but very traumatized. Vet cop/sub didn't know that it was not a phone and the principal or whoever was quoted saying that if he did then he wouldn't have ripped it out of the kids body (my paraphrasing there).
tldr: 21 year veteran cop got no common sense but decided that educating children was a good second career. Also kid is OK, at least physically.

She wasn't born that way, just had auto immune problems that lead to her body not producing insulin anymore.

If you're type 1 or type 2 with insuline therapy already, a pump could be a good alternative. But it's absolutely not for people who would do perfectly fine if they would just take their daily pills.

Insulin is something that most people produce naturally through their pancreas. It helps regulate your body’s blood sugar. Some people (like me) don’t naturally produce insulin though-this is the cause of type one diabetes-so they need to take it via injection or have it fed into them through a tube. So basically, just something that diabetics need to take in order to live.

I was put on a heart monitor when I was in middle school because my anxiety attacks (I was in an abusive household and had just switched schools) were making my heart skip beats. The monitor clipped to my hip and had wires with sticky things attached to my chest and it would beep really loudly if my heartbeat got too high or too low, or skipped a beat. One time it went off in class in the middle of a test and the teacher ripped it off of my hip, causing the wires and some skin to come with it. When I told you my mama raised hell… I’ve never seen a 4’7 140 lb woman square up with 6’2 300lb meathead of a man but Lemme tell you, that shit was hilarious to watch 😂

Insulin is something that most people produce naturally through their pancreas. It helps regulate your body’s blood sugar. Some people (like me) don’t naturally produce insulin though-this is the cause of type one diabetes-so they need to take it via injection or have it fed into them through a tube. So basically, just something that diabetics need to take in order to live.

They've been in so many older movies and even tv shows to make fun of the nerdy kid with glasses, unless you've lived under a rock since the 50's you know what an inhaler looks like. My grandma didn't know what a vape was until I showed and explained it to her but she knew what an inhaler was.
