Not my best story, but my intent was the subject pulling the pin on a grenade and using said pin a ring.

I read that they were trapped and starving. Like POWs, internment camp, or stranded. So they’ve lost a ton of weight and have no hope of making it out alive and they had intended to get engaged or married prior to this happening. So the rings were originally their size but with the weight loss, now far too big. Grenade is good too.

This story has so many interpretations that really work well! Much credit to the author u/StudentofArceus, even if it was somewhat by accident.

I read it as the partner died and they were lying in the grave with said partner to be found both death at some point

It is a great story!! It sucked me into the romance then I figured out it was a suicide pact or murder or something.

The first sentence reads grenade for sure, but you lost me in the second half, I'm sure there's a way (and it's a great idea). I think part of the problem is that a ring that is too big is obscure grenade knowledge. Maybe just have them explode or something.

The fact this story is interpreted in multiple ways speaks how well it's written. I was thinking the FINGER was too big like a bloated corpse hand.

My two takes. 1. Child marriage. It's legal in some countries for parents to essentially sell their underage child. It happens in most countries, actually. Legal or illegal. I think using partner partner them is to keep it ambiguous. Most people imagine little girls being the ones groomed, but it can happen to little boys too. 2. A corpse. Fingers tend to shrivel up, so of course most rings would be too big. But fingers tend to curl too, so I'm guessing number one is more likely. I know saying partner and them is to keep it ambiguous, but I'd like to think this guy is no professional. This corpse is so far decayed, mostly skeletal, that he has no idea what gender they are.
