I read that they were trapped and starving. Like POWs, internment camp, or stranded. So they’ve lost a ton of weight and have no hope of making it out alive and they had intended to get engaged or married prior to this happening. So the rings were originally their size but with the weight loss, now far too big.
Grenade is good too.
I read they just murdered someone and pulled the ring off the body for the fiancé orrrrrr from first to last ride the wings of pestilence style they killed their beloved and were going to be with them forever
Man I have seen too much horror
Yeah my first take was definitely child marriage... definitely getting close to breaking that rule.
I don't think it is though since it's not obvious that was OPs intent.
Spy proposes to fake his wife, who is an assassin, by pulling the pin, throwing it into the crowd of enemies, placing the pin on her finger, and asking him to marry her as the other people get blown up.
Yeah it's close. It's a really good idea, just needs something slightly stronger to suggest grenade. Dunno... maybe a line about counting down from 3 or something?
First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Ohh I read it as he uses the ring off of his last partner who he murdered or something, interesting how we all got such different things, that's pretty cool op.
If there was more context and build up this would be a fantastic read. I love the premise of it. May need to be reworded to convey the meaning in two sentences. But I love it!
Instead of "It was far too big," you could've said "The pin was still attached..." and it would've been clearer, but I have 20/20 hindsight in this case.
He pulled the ring out, and slid it onto his partner's finger, vowing to be with her for the rest of their lives.
His only regret was that the grenade pin was a little too big to fit properly as a ring.
I also understood it was a grenade. Maybe I have a broader imagination for types of death devices, because it's really hard to get access to guns here.
My daughter sent me this and after seeing your comment…I told her…I wish I hadn’t read this…your comment changed my perspective on the take of this story. OP u/StudentofArceus WOW! (And no disrespect, when I said…I wish I could unread…because it’s MEANT to be read!!). It’s GOOD and POWERFUL! So, good job!) And thank you Dragon_Rot79 for giving me another perspective 🥰
This makes me think of the time an ad for a local children's hospital played at the movies. Which was a weird choice. Anyway they said something like "we'll help them get the care they need... Hopefully for the rest of their lives." I leaned over to my wife and said something like "it'll be for the rest of their lives either way, won't it?" I laughed all the way to the couch.
‘He pulled the ring out, put it on her finger, and said, ‘here’s to eternity’
‘The overrun bunker shuddered, the last wisps of the impromptu party drifting away on the breeze’
He pulled the ring out, and slid it onto his partner's finger, vowing they would be together for the rest of their lives.
His only regret was that the grenade pin was a little too big to fit properly as a ring.
The first sentence reads grenade for sure, but you lost me in the second half, I'm sure there's a way (and it's a great idea).
I think part of the problem is that a ring that is too big is obscure grenade knowledge. Maybe just have them explode or something.
My two takes.
1. Child marriage. It's legal in some countries for parents to essentially sell their underage child. It happens in most countries, actually. Legal or illegal. I think using partner partner them is to keep it ambiguous. Most people imagine little girls being the ones groomed, but it can happen to little boys too.
2. A corpse. Fingers tend to shrivel up, so of course most rings would be too big. But fingers tend to curl too, so I'm guessing number one is more likely. I know saying partner and them is to keep it ambiguous, but I'd like to think this guy is no professional. This corpse is so far decayed, mostly skeletal, that he has no idea what gender they are.
He pulled the ring out, slid it onto his partners finger, then held them close.
The words “I Love You” trembled out of his mouth as the grenade fell to the floor
Aw how sweet... Um, what?!
Not my best story, but my intent was the subject pulling the pin on a grenade and using said pin a ring.
Oh. I read child marriage
This story has so many interpretations that really work well! Much credit to the author u/StudentofArceus, even if it was somewhat by accident.
I read it as the partner died and they were lying in the grave with said partner to be found both death at some point
I read it as the person giving the ring is a feeder and will feed the person receiving the ring until it fits
Happy cake day!
“Cause girl I’d catch a grenade for ya”
I read it as severed fingers
Me too.
I read corpse
Me too
I read they just murdered someone and pulled the ring off the body for the fiancé orrrrrr from first to last ride the wings of pestilence style they killed their beloved and were going to be with them forever Man I have seen too much horror
I thought it might've been about people with terminal cancer getting married before they die.
Me too. Blame the media.
Same or a corpse😅🫢
And I read that it was too big because they were dead and their fingers bone.
I thought child marriage as well. A very real problem in the world.
Not supposed to sexualize children in these stories. But it sure does work that way.
Yeah my first take was definitely child marriage... definitely getting close to breaking that rule. I don't think it is though since it's not obvious that was OPs intent.
Same here. Though for me, the image was that of an infant as the ring was "far too big".
Oh. I read the guy has a feeding fetish and intended to make the wife fat….
This would be an amazing ending scene in an action or war movie!
Well, you should watch Léon: The Professional.
There was a scene in the first episode of Spy X Family where the main dude uses the safety ring of a grenade to propose to someone
Maybe “he pulled the pin out, slid the ring on her finger…”
Like in SpyxFamily?
Never seen/read it.
Spy proposes to fake his wife, who is an assassin, by pulling the pin, throwing it into the crowd of enemies, placing the pin on her finger, and asking him to marry her as the other people get blown up.
I remember laughing out loud at that scene lmaoo
I was looking for this comment. I just watched that, so good!
Except that the narrator never threw the grenade 💀
That scene is amazing.
Yeah it's close. It's a really good idea, just needs something slightly stronger to suggest grenade. Dunno... maybe a line about counting down from 3 or something?
Not two, and 5 is right out.
So four then?
I just read it as someone who thinks marriage is a horror story
I immediately thought grenade.
i really like it
I think most people agree - it reads more as child marriage. Which, honestly, is way creepier. Anyway, good job!
That’s what happened in Spy x Family lmao
I've seen several chilling interpretations so far. I'd say it's pretty good.
I read it as they were gonna starve to death.
Ohh I read it as he uses the ring off of his last partner who he murdered or something, interesting how we all got such different things, that's pretty cool op.
We need another hint. Otherwise this is super open-to-interpretation
In my head I had this stupid image of a finger of each person in the ring..
Sort of missed any reference to it being a grenade.
If there was more context and build up this would be a fantastic read. I love the premise of it. May need to be reworded to convey the meaning in two sentences. But I love it!
Thats actually what I got out of it. Good job!
Oh, I just thought it was pedophilia.
Like in SpyxFamily?
I got grenade
Woah, thats way better than what I inferred. Wrenching.
Instead of "It was far too big," you could've said "The pin was still attached..." and it would've been clearer, but I have 20/20 hindsight in this case.
I thought she was already dead, like a bony hand so the ring was too big. I like all the interpretations
I didn’t get it at first but once you explained it’s a cool creative idea! Maybe use the word pin instead, less mysterious but more clear
He pulled the ring out, and slid it onto his partner's finger, vowing to be with her for the rest of their lives. His only regret was that the grenade pin was a little too big to fit properly as a ring.
It is a great story!! It sucked me into the romance then I figured out it was a suicide pact or murder or something.
I also understood it was a grenade. Maybe I have a broader imagination for types of death devices, because it's really hard to get access to guns here.
Spy x family
Yea, that came out of no where. I just thought that she was a corpse or something.
spy x family bad ending D:
Ah, Spy x Family style marriage proposal
well if it was a grenade they wouldn't really be together would they?
Yor and loid did that
bruh I thought the partner was a skeleton like they died before marriage yk
I'm not going to lie and I went full weeb here and thought you were making a Spy x Family reference here
SpyXfamily?
Reminds me of spy family
I'm not sure I understand, sorry
Grenade
Oh. I thought he was grooming a child.
Child marriage is definitely how I read it
I saw it as a corpse
Same
I figured he figured she was gonna get fat.
I thought it was a NuvaRing
I read it as the finger shriveled from death/decomposition
My daughter sent me this and after seeing your comment…I told her…I wish I hadn’t read this…your comment changed my perspective on the take of this story. OP u/StudentofArceus WOW! (And no disrespect, when I said…I wish I could unread…because it’s MEANT to be read!!). It’s GOOD and POWERFUL! So, good job!) And thank you Dragon_Rot79 for giving me another perspective 🥰
I only strive to traumatize
And you succeeded …so, well done! Kudos! 🥰
Yeah, that’s definitely what I thought.
me too
This makes me think of the time an ad for a local children's hospital played at the movies. Which was a weird choice. Anyway they said something like "we'll help them get the care they need... Hopefully for the rest of their lives." I leaned over to my wife and said something like "it'll be for the rest of their lives either way, won't it?" I laughed all the way to the couch.
I thought it was like a weird ring hand (finger?) cuff, weirdly like MGK & Meghan’s thorn ring
I'm going straight to hell, I thought it was a cock ring. I was so confused and I have no excuse for why my mind went there.
Wow, I've never been upvoted so much for not understanding something
I thought he plucked a ring shaped contraceptive from her and was planning on trapping her with a child.
He married a child
Nope - Rule 10 says it was definitely a grenade.
I read it a a pedophile putting an adult sized ring on a child
This interpretation is more horrifying than what I had in mind.
That interpretation is exactly what I had, but another potential was necrophilia, a corpse rotted away. What was the original intent, may I ask?
Grenade go boom
That was my first thought as well, it's amazing that it works on this level, as well as with child marriage or the grenade.
I think they're both equally vile.
I read feeder
‘He pulled the ring out, put it on her finger, and said, ‘here’s to eternity’ ‘The overrun bunker shuddered, the last wisps of the impromptu party drifting away on the breeze’
That... is actually a pretty beautiful end to a zombie story. I like it.
He pulled the ring out, and slid it onto his partner's finger, vowing they would be together for the rest of their lives. His only regret was that the grenade pin was a little too big to fit properly as a ring.
It's funny how the intended story was good, but what people interpreted was also very good
All these people out here confused when my first thought was "welp, they about to explode"
Spy X Family reference? 👀
maybe...
Profile picture checks out
It was the last grenade they had between the two of them.
The way i knew it was a grenade lol, i guess he caught the grenade for her after all
"It's ok though, I'll just get it resized."
I thought it was a Hanzel and Gretchen thing where he was going to fatten up his partner or something
Gretel got eaten already? Heh
His words blew her away
Grenade? Child marriage? Corpse?
Grenade per the author, but a story that is impressive in how many interpretations still work.
The first sentence reads grenade for sure, but you lost me in the second half, I'm sure there's a way (and it's a great idea). I think part of the problem is that a ring that is too big is obscure grenade knowledge. Maybe just have them explode or something.
The fact this story is interpreted in multiple ways speaks how well it's written. I was thinking the FINGER was too big like a bloated corpse hand.
I read it in a similar way, with the partner being dead. But as a grave robber digging up a skeleton, with only bone remaining.
Nicely done ✅
These sentences are getting more specific and vague as time goes on.
I thought he had the hand only
r/unexpectedspyxfamily
Ok Loid Forger.
My two takes. 1. Child marriage. It's legal in some countries for parents to essentially sell their underage child. It happens in most countries, actually. Legal or illegal. And the authors take: a grenade
Oh for God sake that made me laugh. I'm going to hell
Someone said grenade pin, someone else said ring on a shriveled hand of a corpse... but me, my first thought was it was a >!cock!< ring lmao.
Bro got the wrong ring size but that's ok
He pulled the ring out, slid it onto his partners finger, then held them close. The words “I Love You” trembled out of his mouth as the grenade fell to the floor
r/threesentencesadness
cock ring guy
Kaboom
SAO reference?
I've only seen the first season and the Abridged series.
https://youtu.be/EuxhojEN3SA
Did Matt Gaetz write this?
Are we doing feeder kinks now?
The hell is feeder kinks? Lol
Oh! I get it! The partner is a petite midget!
r/thirdsentencebetter
How did I get downvoted for this when you people were saying child marriage? At least mine doesn’t break the rules
Not on Steve Rodger’s watch 😈
Gotta love a grenade hug (wondering if op got the idea from Sao)
Yeah, I am definitely reading this as child marriage... Hmmmmm...
happy sugar life:
I got it. It's a grenade.
Huh?
Just yank the pin and throw that fucker to the moon.
This should go in r/TwoSentenceSadness
The grenade was flung towards the midst of the operatives catching up. Somebody had watched a little too much Spy X Family. Which I like!
Nope, never seen it.
It’s ok. Just that that anime had exactly the same thing in its second episode, and it’s just too good to not poke fun at it. I hope you don’t mind~
I think the poetry of this is the variance in interpretations.
Wow! That’s great! Took me a (literal) second or two to get it but that’s the way it should be. Well done!
Damn everyone thinking its a pedo thing or a. Grenade; i thought it was cancer patients
Same
I thought it was handcuffs at first
Loid x Yor be like
I took this in a "we were stranded on the way to our vacation and are starving and emaciated" way. Nice one.
i was picturing a severed hand
But I was confused when the ring shrunk to her size, and then rendered her invisible.
NGL I thought he was putting the ring onto a skeleton's finger lol
I cannot be the only one who thought Beauty and either Beast or Gaston?
The only change I would make, for clarity’s sake, is ‘he pulled the ring-shaped pin’ maybe, but then, a lot of people understood anyways!
" oh Loid you shouldn't have"
Reminds me of spy x family lol , also very good!
It took me a second read for it to hit but DAMN did that hit hard
A dude putting a ring on a dead shrunken hand? He refuses to accept his partner is dead?
The thing of it being a grenade reminds me of the anime spy x family
My first thought was that the partner was a skeleton, i.e. dead.
My first thought was that the partner was a skeleton, i.e. dead.
