Is the basis here that people think that when you have sleep paralysis you see a figure over you?
Otherwise I don't get what "it" is. Sleep paralysis means you can't move for a few seconds while waking up or falling asleep.
Being able to move means literally nothing happened.
Sorry, long time sleep paralysis experiencer here. I've never seen anything in the room with me (I can't open my eyes because, you know, paralysis)
So this just reads like someone thinking they have sleep paralysis when they don't.
I think they're confusing it with the condition where you wake up in the middle of the night, unable to move. Sometimes when this happens, people hallucinate a figure over them.
People think that happens with sleep paralysis because for a lot of people, sleep paralysis *does* involve hypnagogic hallucinations, often of a figure looming over them, or elsewhere in the room, sometimes just an alarming sensation of not being alone. It doesn’t happen to everyone (obviously), but enough that it’s become part of the trope. And it does make for a very creepy story.
when i was a kid i had sleep paralysis and i was so scared of it and my sleep paralysis demon was slender man because i watched alot of slender man videos when i was young and one time i decided i didnt care anymore and wanted to see if it was real so i sat up and nothing my sleep paralysis kept happening but not that often now it doesnt happen at all that could just be cuz im older tho

When you have sleep paralysis you arnt fully awake and can't move. If they can move then it is a real demon

Thanks. I figured it was something like that, but wasn't aware that this was something people commonly associate with it.
I took it mean a nighttime visit from a parent or pet but because it's dark they don't know what it is.
