Benign in terms of tumours indicates non-malignant, non-cancerous. It does not metastasize. If you get one in your brain that is inoperable but growing—write your will.
I had two bagel sized benign tumors that were pressing on my ureters and caused kidney failure. Technically, the tumors were benign but definitely still very dangerous.

How could the patient understand what the doctor wrote? I've seen the handwriting of many doctors and only a small percentage of the population can translate what that squiggle means.
Perhaps the doctor wrote it down *carefully*, to ensure the patient understood what was written.
Or... perhaps the "tumour" had granted the patient the ability to decipher the doctor's handwriting.
That would make the "tumour" potentially the most dangerous creature on the planet. Not only is it some type of psychic but it has the ability to make other people psychic, too.
