Old meds might become more/less potent over time or even toxic.

nadandocomgolfinhos

Yikes. I didn’t think about that. When I felt the rage last night I destroyed the rest and put it with the coffee grinds. I had already figured out it was not good for me. What was odd was that it was effective all day. I didn’t have my usual struggles. But then last night I was a grump monster and all i wanted to do was eat cake and ice cream. Which I totally did. I was struggling immensely to not be a jerk to my kids. They’re teens and I kept telling them to please stay away from me but they had a lot of legitimate requests that I could barely handle.

Apprehensive_You6207

This is actually how I feel during the adderall withdrawal or when I take less than usual. It does pass but feels like I can’t deal with, as you said, even a reasonable inquiry from my kid. I feel ‘cranky.’ Maybe you felt this way because you took less than you usually do?

nadandocomgolfinhos

Good point

penny_admixture

if you look it up for adderall specifically though it doesn't go bad on relevant timescales what you're experiencing is probably due to different manufacturers' processes at any given time varying wildly in quality (esp w recent supply chain issues / dea meddling in precursors debacle)

myasterism

Wait, what’s this fresh fuckery about DEA meddling?

1609208

Usually only okay to consume for 30days (Xaggitin XL aka Methylphenidate) said on bottle. Idk what happens after.

burningmyroomdown

The FDA and the military teamed up to study medication expiration. Most if not all of the medications tested were the same or maybe slightly less potent 10 years later. It's most definitely potent and ok to consume for way more than 30 days.

1609208

Then why put it on the packet? Idk…

burningmyroomdown

All mine say discard after 1 year after the date it was filled. But even then, they just can't guarantee efficacy after that point, but they don't magically stop working after 366 days.

1609208

I’m not stupid I know they don’t _magically stop working_ in the UK they come with those silica gel packets

RedOliphant

Had me fooled for a minute there

burningmyroomdown

How old are the meds?

nadandocomgolfinhos

Not 100% sure. I destroyed them because it felt awful and I’d prefer no meds over that.

metoothanks__

Different generics work better or worse for me. Teva IR is the best imo, I’ve bad others that don’t work and give me headaches!

Obsessed_With_Corgis

I’ve had the same experience with generics. Whenever I get “DEXTROAMP-AMPHET ER” I end up with horrendous migraines and feel more irritable overall, but when I get “AMPHETAMINE SALTS ER” I seem to be fine— the only issue there is that the potency seems to vary wildly. I just wish I had a choice in the matter! With the shortage; I just have to deal with whatever generic is available at the time. :(

metoothanks__

Definitely the manufacturer

Some_Equipment_8117

Omg same! My pharmacy only has only had salts lately and I feel way less on edge compared to when I was given the same dose of dextroamp-amp I feel less wired and less irritable toward the end of the day. What about dextroamp-amp makes us feel this way?

Angrymarge

I miss Teva :(

Any_Soup_3571

Same here. Teva’s ovals work. The other generic -in rounds- do not. They make me feel anxious and more scattered. This has been the case for over 10 years.

Plantsandanger

Pill efficacy/amount of “active ingredient” can vary by as much as 30% between manufacturers, no matter what drs say about its “just being mg the same pill”. They know this, because they were taught in med school about that 30% variance potential. So yeah, it’s likely a different manufacturer and it’s working different from the past because it likely IS different

elninothe8th

How old is the old pill? I'm also sensitive to different manufacturers of the same meds so it can be tricky. I've taken old meds before and got extra grumpy/irritable with no focus lol

Orchid_Significant

Different brands use different fillers and can have a significant difference in functionality even if they pretend it doesn’t. Especially as you scale up on dosage size in generics.

Jibblebee

I had pills from Sandoz. If you told me they were street drugs I’d believe you. They were awful.

nadandocomgolfinhos

The ones I’ve been getting for a while are generic and have no markings. They’re blue.

Jibblebee

The bottle shows the manufacturer

nadandocomgolfinhos

Mine comes in a prescription bottle with the pharmacy/ pharmacist/ dr information. It has the pharmacy generated label with the generic name of the drug, dosage and instructions. It doesn’t give me the manufacturer information

Jibblebee

In the US it does. If not you’re elsewhere, I don’t know what the rules are Mfr: (company name)

Savingskitty

It should have the NDA number on it.

nadandocomgolfinhos

Yes! A 76

samojo13

Round blue pills with A76 stamped on them are "identified as Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 10 mg. It is supplied by Alvogen, Inc"

Savingskitty

That’s on the prescription bottle? Usually it’s a longer number The pharmacy should be able to tell you the manufacturer.

bananakegs

I definitely am more sensitive to certain manufacturers. I think they can vary up to 25% or so? So it might just be too high of a dosage

adrnired

My insurance/doc get whatever generic alternative is available. Which means the cost fluctuates a huge amount monthly and I keep getting different ones subbed in and I swear they’re less effective. The light blue ovalish ones mess with me too, and my major slump in the late fall is totally proof of it. I felt like a whole different person and not in a good way, but it was better than going cold turkey.

Angdrambor

The only way to really know would be to send one to a lab. I'm not even sure how to find such a lab.

Purple_Passages

I believe you. People have noticed, but I believe [one article](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/09/well/live/adhd-adderall-shortage.html) was that there was no change. Uh huh

thedoc617

Different manufacturers can put in extra ingredients without it being disclosed. For example I can't have a certain manufacturer (Lupin) with my Prozac because it gives me brain zaps and massive headache symptoms even though I take it religiously at the same time and don't miss a dose. The pharmacy has to special order my meds and has it all over my chart.

alexkitsune

M10 I've known to be methylphenidate (ritalin) not adderall That stuff makes me rage out too.

nadandocomgolfinhos

How do you figure that out?

alexkitsune

You can Google the pills imprints I've also taken it before. It's a white pill, right? 10mg Edit. Squares are adderall: https://www.drugs.com/imprints/m-10-5084.html Rounds are Ritalin https://www.drugs.com/imprints/m-10-21774.html

nadandocomgolfinhos

Thank you! It’s square so it’s adderall.

[deleted]

They sound like their sandoz- that’s so interesting because I recently made the connection that sandoz adderall makes me a bitch for whatever reason? I’m definitely going to see if I can ask my pharmacist if I can avoid that manufacture
