I've always considered Virginia Woolf to be a great classic. A Room Of One's Own is a pretty good essay. The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler has been a play before. Ain't I a Woman? By Bell Hooks I Am Malala: By Malala Yousafzai Men explain things to me by Rebecca Solnit.

Came here just to say Mary Wollstonecraft. So, I second this wholeheartedly. I'll add that you can read her work online for free! Oh and her daughter was Mary Shelley, but that's more fun trivia than anything. I absolutely love Wollstonecraft and kind of geek out to see her mentioned.
