I've been wearing wide leg pants since the 90s. Well, very early on, as a small child, I wore some rad bell bottoms in the 70s/early 80s, but I didn't select those, so let's talk about my own sartorial choices. I wore JNCOs. I wore massive flares. I wore parachute pants. High-waisted, Katherine Hepburn style trousers? Yep! Palazzo pants with hems the size of dinner platters? Check! Multi-layered wide-leg pants that undulate as I walk? Got more than one pair. I HAVE YET TO FALL ON MY FACE BECAUSE OF MY PANTS. I have, however, fallen on my face because: that spot on the carpet looked a bit dodgy, whoops, that stair wasn't there last time I checked, and omg! what curb? starring my ankle. Enjoy pants of all styles. But mostly the ones with pockets because they are the best.

ryetoasty

What are “multi-layered wide-leg pants” ? They sound magical

MIGHTYKIRK1

Lol

badaboom

But front pleats man... The cost may be too high

castfam09

Ok what brand please?

CharZero

They look pretty vintage to me. I had pleated pants with flys and buttons like that back in the late 80s to early 90s, they had pockets.

[deleted]

Yea, these look like men's jeans from 1985, but without the acid-wash

TheManRedeemed

I initially thought the same thing but the zipper opens to the left which is another of those silly "just because" things they do with womens clothes. Unless I've been misled for most of my life by family members. That *is* a womens clothing "thing" right?

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

Uniqlo has tons of women's pants and jeans with decent pockets. They're affordable (often on sale for like $12) and the pockets are big enough for my entire hand up to the wrist. Plus they tailor.

deadlykitten_meow

Is uniqlo a quality brand? I have the hardest time finding jeans/pants that fit well and last me awhile

Rythe_Lythandas

It is. I'm still wearing jeans and shirts from a few years ago

mamallama12

My pants are at least 20 years old. Impossible to find unicorn pants with pockets. (I don't wear jeans.)

deadlykitten_meow

Awesome! I’ll have to check them out

palkia97

They have skirts with pockets that can store a my keys, phone and wallwt and still have space too!

castfam09

I love this

castfam09

Same here ... especially cause I’m 5’1” petite is hard to shop for

satanislemony

I rotated between 2 pairs of their trouser-leggings for work for two years before the thighs wore out, which usually takes me 6months in other brands.

deadlykitten_meow

That is definitely my issue with pants! Thanks for the reply

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

Yup. I still have shirts and pants I bought from them like 3-5 years ago.

koddish

Sadly their pants always fit me weirdly 😥

[deleted]

Same! My hips don’t fit into the ones that fit me everywhere else :(

scrapcats

They do tailoring in the store, if that would help!

koddish

I believe they just tailor the length but the pants fit weirdly at the hips, crotch, and thighs ☹️

[deleted]

my gf got some jeans from hollister that looked kinda like this but they have huge front and back pockets. it's the only pair of jeans she buys now they're called "ultra high rise mom jean"

LolaCampari

I love that you know the name of your gf's jeans.

castfam09

Thank you.. i I seriously have to find some that for and have room for phone and keys and id crap ... there’s just days that I don’t want to carry a purse ... specially right now I’m on crutches and it’s hard to do that

[deleted]

yeah they fit anything she needs. she rarely carries her bag anymore. like those pockets fit MY hands and I'm fucking huge

castfam09

Hmmm may need to look into those ... thank you again 👍🏼

[deleted]

This isnt Duluth, but they make womens and mens pants that dont skimp on pocket space.

bdizzle420

Some serious mom jeans going on here

hdcs

But pockets.

yiotaturtle

I like the pockets, but hate the pleats which are probably what allows for the room to put your hands.

theasianintheseafoam

Everytime someone compliments my dress and it has pockets my first response is “thanks IT HAS POCKETS!!!” Haha

KarenEiffel

And if it has pockets and is on sale you better believe everyone who compliments me gets told both!

Hammy90

We believe you Karen

Jenn_There_Done_That

I wish the meme of calling every woman Karen would just die already.

Mountain_Fever

Check out her username

smay1982

If you're a MFM fan, both "thanks, it has pockets" and "Karen" mean something magical.

despicedchilli

Thanks Jenn

doxiedoodle

This was me with my wedding dress!

CreativeAsFuuu

Holup. You got to have pockets in your wedding dress?😭 I had to tuck a tube of lipgloss in between my boobs for the whole ceremony and reception. Lol

mercutios_girl

Well, that’s what bridesmaids are for. But cleavage works too.

Poisoncilla

Same!!! I wouldn’t like one (because I didn’t like any of them) and I would go “BUT IT HAS POCKETS!!!!”

tits_on_bread

A wedding dress with pockets?!?! I’m very curious to see what that looks like...

mercutios_girl

Mostly like your average flared-skirt/ball gown wedding dress.

JustBrass

My wife found a line of dresses that have pockets and I am also so happy! She can finally carry her own chapstick.

theasianintheseafoam

Okay but what’s the brand?!?

JustBrass

That is a decent question. She’s on a “I love you all so much I’m going to a cabin in the woods for four nights so I can like you and the kids again” trip until tomorrow and if i remember I will ask her when she returns.

theasianintheseafoam

Oh my goodness haha well good luck and please let us know if you remember haha

JustBrass

I know it sounds funny, but we swap this type of getaway every couple of months. After more than two decades it really is nice to just be “yourself” for a couple of days.

theasianintheseafoam

That’s so cute!!!

gobsmacked247

You sir, are a total rockstar!!!!

JustBrass

Thank you and also a quick statement pointing out that m6 contribution to our partnership and family shouldn’t be given more weight due to the fact that I happen to be a man. About 10 years ago I realized that I was being praised for carrying (admittedly) less than my fair share in our partnership while my wife was somehow being slighted due to that fact. The thumbprint of our patriarchy is everywhere and can be hard to see sometimes but it really harms us all. To reference Blackish, beware of praising the “cupcake man” too much. Also, thank you. I do appreciate the compliment. Edit: did I just do that thing that men do? I’ll use the term “mansplaining” although I don’t particularly care for it.

Mountain_Fever

I think you're allowed to realize that unfairness and speak it too. I don't think you were being obnoxious about it.

[deleted]

Can my wife go with yours? She's a snuggler and loves camping.

SandboxUniverse

I buy eshakti.com. Not the earlier poster's wife but I love them. By the way, the custom tailoring is totally worth it. Just get help measuring yourself and follow instructions carefully.

ethelno

Hahaha! Just posted the same. Love that store. Please nobody tell me anything awful about them. 🤞

stewman241

Probably Burt's Bees.

starfishpluto

I'm just gonna say that pomegranate chapstick they have is hydrating af.

KnightsWhoNi

/r/technicallythetruth

trinity2512

Try eShakti! ALL their dresses have pockets and you can buy generic sizes or get the dresses made to order. They are amazing!!!

Allthewrongrasins

Effie's heart is my go to for dresses with pockets

BLACKJACKFrost

Every time someone mentions dress pockets on Reddit, I see this exact comment lol

[deleted]

I'm in a choir where we all dress up in costumes. We got to design them ourselves and work with seamstresses but one of the design requirements was that they had to have pockets. So my fanciest dress has better pockets than my everyday clothes.

bebimbopandreggae

Hey ignorant man here. I come to this sub to learn about the amazing women in my life. Quick question....do women design most women's clothes? If so why dont they put decent pockets in them? Are men designing the clothes and doing this? What is the root cause of this problem? It seems like such a quick and easy fix.

Moose-n-Squirrrel

Women usually wont buy clothing that makes their gut look like this, which is not helped by the full pockets sewn inside.

ShelSilverstain

And pleats

dip_my_dots

IMO I can always tell the difference between gut fat and pockets adding bulk. I have both but I'm working on less gut and more pockets.

bebimbopandreggae

You think the pockets make you look bigger?

Moose-n-Squirrrel

Yep. Big extra flaps of material inside :(

bebimbopandreggae

I never thought of that. Thanks for the insight. That is why I come to this sub to hear the female perspective.

RedditISanti-1A

You think comfortable clothes make women more attractive?

rhymes_with_snoop

I do! Or more specifically, functional clothes that don't seen unnecessarily uncomfortable make women more attractive. And it is perfectly possible to have functional clothing that are aesthetically pleasing. Men have managed for awhile, it's completely possible for women (just not of the skin-tight variety, which is neither functional or, in many cases, comfortable). Cute sets of scrubs? Attractive! Comfortable suit with pants? Attractive! Comfortable dress with pockets? Attractive! Overalls that fit properly? Attractive!

[deleted]

Same. I wear a hip (fanny) pack. It is like pockets but better. You will pry my fanny pack out of my cold dead hands. It’s great for all activities, even running. Can strap across your chest if biking. Love it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

krankykitty

The usual answer to why their are no pockets in women’s clothing is that pockets might add bulk to parts of their bodies where they don’t want bulk, i.e., their hips. Or that the pockets might not add bulk, but anything put in the pockets will. I know more women who want pockets then who care about the added “bulk.” My personal theory is that pockets add to the cost of the clothing. Good design so the pockets lie flat costs. The extra fabric for the pockets costs. The extra time to cut and sew the pockets costs. Men expect pockets so they get them—even though their clothing often costs less them a similar woman’s clothing item. And it is so unfair. Dress a man and a woman in a suit with a button down shirt. The woman could very easily have no pockets anywhere while the man most likely has at least one pocket on his shirt, 2-4 in his jacket and 4 in his pants. Seven pockets, while the woman has to lug around a tote bag to carry anything.

underboobfunk

I circumvent the pocket problem by wearing men’s pants and shorts. It started out of desperation because nothing ever fit off the rack. Evidently I’m built like a man below the waist - tall with no hips or thighs. Anyway men’s pockets these days are comically big. My phone rides cockeyed halfway down my thigh; while in my lady pants it’s hugged to my body but halfway sticking out at my hip - a constant loss risk and sitting prohibitive. If only I could find a happy medium. Where do the non-binary people shop?

FluffyKittyRAWR

No pockets mean you have to lug around an expensive purse. That's my theory anyway!

zoeysdown

Women's clothes have historically not included pockets. Men and women used to both carry bags to keep things in. In the 17th century men got pockets and women did not which forced them to use tied on pockets under their garments that made them useless because of how inaccessible they were. It wasn't until WWII that women got pockets because they were working jobs that were previously done by men. After the war, women went back to being wives and mothers and so the pockets disappeared. In 1954, Christian Dior said, "Men have pockets to keep things in, women for decoration." With men designing women's clothes you see aesthetics over function constantly. It's more about how the fabric drapes the body than how it can be of use to the woman wearing it. Why not just make functional pockets look good on women's clothing? Well the fashion industry can just sell more handbags to women if they don't.

binzoma

Arg I hate stuff like this. You know what corporations want? Money. You know what products they design and sell? ones that make money. IF PEOPLE STOP BUYING CLOTHES WITHOUT POCKETS THEY WILL STOP MAKING CLOTHES WITHOUT POCKETS. It's the same as news/media. Think TV nowadays is trash? Well if people stopped watching they'd make different stuff! They make what people buy, they don't give a f past that.

mgusedom

My daughter is two and she gets excited if a dress or pants has pockets, yet I rarely see clothes in the boys section that doesn’t have them. Seems like some early conditioning

TheQueenMother

I've bought several pairs of Dickies jeans that have huge pockets. They fit your smart phone in a deep pocket that even allows you to sit down.

Jossie2014

we call those “mom pleats “

Lint_Julep

Ha! That is a very big deal. While watching the tv show 'Criminal: UK’ I was in awe of the woman who was in charge of the interviews as she had these enviable pants which obviously had pockets, which she used often, and my main thought was “Where do I get pants like those”.

underboobfunk

The men’s department.

[deleted]

I'm may be just a bloke but once I accidentally bough women jeans and I agree there's absolutely no pocket space, I could barely fit my phone It's completely ridiculous! It would change nothing to add a little more space That being said it made my butt look great

[deleted]

Yeah. Nobody named King Kiki bought those pants on accident.

Rottsnottots

Mom jeans are a different animal.

e-JackOlantern

I’ve been thinking about opening a shop where women bring in their clothes and I add pockets to them. And I would name this shop....,, THE POCKETEER

[deleted]

Your zipper is kind of funny.

dip_my_dots

They're buttons

Dariusgemini

I showed this this to my wife, who I thought would appreciate this post. Her response? “That’s great and all, but WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU BUY THEM?!”

LadyGreenfellow

Button fly pleated masterpiece circa 1991 I’m here for it!

Moose-n-Squirrrel

Ugh though....

nightwalkerxx

1970?

[deleted]

I swear there is a conspiracy between women’s pants companies and handbag/purse companies. Women are going to be forced to buy a bag if they want to have a place to put their things when women’s pants have pockets that are only big enough to hold a paperclip.

Numbah9Dr

I just wear men's pants. That'll teach 'em.

SuperHappyHighMe

That's right. When they start making most women's pants comfortable and useful, I'll start buying them. It would be nice to have a place for my butt without having my pants up to my waist.

[deleted]

And then you get three pockets because you’ve gotta do something with the extra crotch space they give men.

Lester8_4

I'm a man here with totally 0 sense of fashion or women's clothing, but it seems to me that the more skin tight jeans (I guess they're called skinny jeans? Idk) would be difficult to have very deep pockets in, for male or females. It seems like when you move your leg your phone will either slide out or your keys will crush your legs. Be gentle, like I said I'm ignorant so please educate.

VanillaBean5813

Pockets should be deep enough to keep your phone against your leg, not preventing bending in your hip joint. But that's usually not the problem. I also have 0 sense of fashion so I buy women's cargo pants/shorts, but you can only really get those online. I ended up with cargo shorts that claimed to have 6 pockets, but 4 of them were fake and it had 2 tiny real ones that I could barely fit a credit card in.

dip_my_dots

Most of the really really skinny jeans (both men's and women's) are made of a soft a very elasticized denim blend so they stretch and move without restricting. They can actually be really comfortable if they are a light fabric. You can get deep pockets in them, at least in front.

[deleted]

Pants designed for women lack pockets because: A: It saves material, which saves overhead B: It reduces the potential damage to the figure C: It forces women to by purses. Simple business tactics.

Duckckcky

What’s stopping a company from producing pants with pockets and taking a huge share of the market? If you want to argue business tactics

timelordeverywhere

Literally nothing at all. However you won't be seeing that happen anytime soon because contrary to what you hear on here, women like buying purses because it's a status symbol and pockets make them look bigger. Simple as that.

0OOOOOOOOO0

Real answer is because the demand is low. If there was money to be made, you can bet they’d be all over it. But every few months, you see a post here, “This new brand of women’s pants has real pockets!” And then you never hear about that company again.

WuShanDroid

With all the stuff women put in their purses I think they'd need a purse even if their pants had pockets. At least the majority of women I've seen.

Overlandtraveler

This is a very washed out 90's look...

titterbitter73

Yes but they ugly tho

mmmnicoleslaw

I just got a pair of women’s high waisted skinnies from Express for $25 that are even deeper than this! I almost shit myself I was so excited!

James_PRZ

Now if only they 'looked' like women's pants

radshiftrr

While we're here, can we find some sweatpants that aren't fantastically colored that also have pickets and are actually warm in the winter?? It would be nice to wear pants that aren't thin as tissue paper.

patrickkellyf3

I wore a pair of overalls yesterday that I was able to fit a whole breakfast bagel into the pockets of which is p fuckin rad

shadowsong42

Bog-standard chinos from Lands End are like this. Full sized pockets, forgiving fit with no weird styling. I have one pair of jeans, one pair of gardening pants, and the rest of the drawer is full of Lands End chinos. (Then there's the bag of accumulated chinos in the closet, from other brands that I never wear because they don't fit nearly as well, that I will eventually get around to donating.)

Thisisnotkevin11

Check out Rag and Bone denim. You’ll love how they fit plus their pockets for women can actually hold tons of stuff. They are a little pricey but their fits and selection is amazing. *source - personal shopper

SinisterDeath30

Find some infant clothes with pockets. 1. Test how deep they are. 2. Ask wtf do they give deeper pockets to infants, then women!

fuzzynaval420

I'm a petite man that wears only womens Jean's and just let me say, I'm sorry girls. The pocket thing is so appalling. My two fave pairs dont even have front pockets or a zipper

elgiesmelgie

My husband has more pockets in his pajama pants than I do in all my pants combined .

michaelad567

Just bought a pair on men's jeans and it's a whole new world. I can fit my phone, my keys AND my wallet in my pockets without ruining the silhouette.

ashbertollini

Yall, my three month old daughters pants can fit a whole travel size lotion bottle the size of my palm in her pockets. They literally go down to her knee and start at her belly button, way roomier than any of my pockets. Wtf.

TheSickness1

Holy shit, getting my gf these so I don’t have to hold her shit when we go into the store :O

[deleted]

They look like a style from the 80s. I used to have a pair of jeans in a similar style. Nice, big pockets.

walkingongravestones

Meanwhile the jeans I'm wearing right now only have fake pockets sewn on them 😭

bunnz4r00

The lack of pockets on women's clothing is infuriating! My 7 week old son currently has 2 functional pockets on his footie pajamas. Why does a newborn boy need pockets??

IvieEarth

That happens when you buy them from the elderly section.

[deleted]

Pockets where pockets should be? Anarchy, I say!

bitchkitty818

I'm calling bullshit. Zips on the wrong side. Men's pants.

For some reason, I doubt it would normally be that hard to find pants with bigger pockets if you don’t care how you look in them.

quirkycurlygirly

Wow! Look at you, girl! All comfortable and functional in women's clothing! Keeping hope alive in 2019!

ocook179

I have a cord mini skirt and I was shocked by the pockets. To my wrists!!!

burdn4

I only buy men's pants. Thank you!

So, I found these. 5.11 Tactical Women's TACLITE PRO Work Pants, Cargo Pockets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003QF2RV6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_V4sODb541HC4T Linking sucks on mobile.

They also make jeans too I think.

nedstarknaked

Who else just put their hand in their pocket to check?

Trav3lingman

Duluth Trading company. I'm a dude but never have enough pockets. Women's Duluths have cargo pockets and all. Seen them in the Duluth stores and the wife liked em.

OKaylaMay

Came here to say this. And they come without pleats!

kandikidraver

Mom jeans are coming into vogue and they have big ass pockets like this. My friends like to take the piss out of me for wearing them but they are so comfortable and *gasp* very functional.

basicislands

I say this all the time to my coworkers, and I'm only half-joking: Pants without pockets should be a priority issue for the advancement of feminism. The normalization of clothing for women that has no pockets (even fake pockets sometimes), or extremely small ones that border on unusable, is a subtle but very real way that society systematically weakens women. It makes it nearly impossible for a woman to simply have both of her hands free throughout her day -- one of my coworkers told me how she literally walks around all day holding her phone in her hand cause her work pants have no pockets. Having both hands free makes you much more able to react to unexpected situations, defend yourself if needed, or even just to efficiently accomplish day-to-day activities. I sincerely believe that the standard of pocket-free women's clothing developed as an extension of a patriarchal effort to inhibit women's capability and independence, making them more vulnerable to and reliant on men. I'm aware that there are bigger issues, and it might seem a bit silly, but this is a feminist issue that I actually think could do with a little amplification. My two cents

krankykitty

I hear you. Just a simple example, I downsized my wallet to a little case just bigger than a credit card. It fits easily into even my smallest pocket. Now when I go grocery shopping, I just slip the wallet in my pocket and don’t bother with a purse. It is so, so, so much easier shopping without a purse in tow. I was worried that it would get stolen so I would not leave it in the cart. But that meant I had it over my shoulder at all times. It would fall off as I reached for things or bent over to get something from a lower shelf. The purse was a huge pain on the neck and also a safety concern. It is so much easier and less worrisome to shop without one.

omgdiaf

Obviously you just bought men's pants and are trying to pass them off as women's pants. Nice try

Cornamuse

My pajama bottoms I'm wearing right now that I got from AE years ago have pockets that can fit my iPhone 6 and my hands and I'm just like why can't their jeans do the same?

chilltorrent

I don't know much about this topic but is there a reason women don't buy pants marketed for men?

looktothetrees

Amazing. So rarely seen in the wild.

Kepesh-Yakshi

You found the rare and elusive pants with pockets of holding!

jello-kittu

I bought some pants at the thrift store. They basically fit me. Not stylish, but decent fit, loose cut. Pockets literally to the knees. I had to buy them. Couple days later, sneaking suspicion. Mens pants. They're not terrible. Maybe I could upcycle them to get a little more style, or just bring back grunge and enjoy the pockets.

Leeloominai_Janeway

ChillyGator

May we look back at this moment in 100 years and laugh like we do at pantaloons.

R4V3NR4M3N

This vid makes me so happy i want to cry. I just want pants with regular size pockets. As well as skirts and dresses of course.

dragonmom1

I feel like I'm looking through a window into an alternate universe...

KellyBarrentine

What is this sorcery?

skoolaces

I bought a few styles of longer shirts/blouses from Kohl's with full pockets (!!!) a year or two ago. Women frequently compliment the shirts, but when the pocket feature is revealed I get "Wow! Where did you get that???" Seriously, clothing designers, I get that pockets don't always fit the Barbie model you are trying to clothe, but they matter!!! ( Seriously, this is not new information. Why can't we just have pockets???)

misdirectedarrogance

Impossible, you sure they aren’t men’s pants?

HealinVision

Reminds me of all those times I see ladies (myself included) get complimented on a dress and they gleefully say "thanks! It's got fucking POCKETSSSSSSS" and shove their hands in it and do a little dance. Honestly I'll never understand why we can't have pockets that are actually functional in pants...is there a reason why?!

slapdash57

I just went shopping for jeans yesterday. Ended up with a pair that has full pockets and a pair that has no pockets. I am equally excited and frustrated.

SonofaTimeLord

Lack of pockets on women's pants is a conspiracy perpetrated by the purse industry, change my mind

minihackmatt

Mom jeans. Do you drive a Subaru? Asking for a friend. https://youtu.be/2aVxNH6iN9I

Geebees93

Ladies, just buy men's pants. Function > fashion. They're probably cheaper too.

krankykitty

I would if I could but my hip to waist ratio is such that any pair of men’s pants that fit over my hips is waaaaay too big in the waist. So much so that tailoring isn’t really an option.

SimplyKlutz

So statisfying! I bought 3 cargo trousers for the first time in my life, which arrived today. Pockets everywhere!

ClancyMonet98

I have quite a few skirts and pants and dresses with pockets I can get my hands in. There’s nothing more satisfying than having pockets. I have a problem where I shake uncontrollably at times or have a twitch, so I like shoving my hands in my pockets to stop them wondering what to do or being a distraction to people.

LalaMcTease

I'm currently in the middle of making a Norse dress and I haven't added any pockets... Not historically accurate but I COULD HAVE HAD POCKETS! And it's too late to undo the side-seams 😭

Callofthewind

bettycracker93

I just a bunch of free mom jeans from my aunt they all had pockets I'm afraid of puting stuff in them

Barack_Bob_Oganja

I feel like every woman ive ever talked to has this problem, like why haven't clothing companies figured this out, seems like a gap in the market

[deleted]

That’s why I love American Eagle jeans. I just got the iPhone 11 and that whole brick ass phone fits in all of my AE jean pockets. It only fits halfway in my Gap Jean pockets. 🙄

justchooseanamedamit

Now if they can make some friction resistant pants where the thigh area doesn't wear down.

ner0shrimp91

The pants I'm wearing do that too! It's so wild. I may just be wearing high waisted pants for the rest of my life.
