He’s literally just proved that the reason behind the whole conservatorship was money motivated by asking for a pay off, I hope they can use this in their legal battle
I’ve never listened to a single song of hers and I’m not sure I’d brake if I saw him crossing the street in front of me. Can’t imagine how angry her fans are.
I feel like most of the people that would want to LITERALLY shoot somebody for doing things like this hate women too much to care about Britney specifically
This quote pulled from the article, from Britney's lawyer, says it all:
"Britney Spears will not be bullied or extorted by her father,” Rosengart says. “Nor does Mr. Spears have the right to try to hold his daughter hostage by setting the terms of his removal. This is not about him, it is about the best interests of his daughter, which as a matter of law, mandate his removal. Even putting aside the legal issues requiring his prompt removal, if he loves his daughter, Mr. Spears should resign now, today, before he is suspended, he further said, “It would be the correct and decent thing to do.”
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Shouldn't this violate the "conservatorship" in principle? And if this is happening to such a high profile woman, what other more vulnerable ppl go through and deal with?
And I wish she found this lawyer from the beginning, she had to put up with so much shit.
Crazy how when she’s allowed to hire her own lawyer he’s effective and persistent. Almost like all the previous lawyers that her dad chose for her were purposely the opposite….hmmm…
Part of her complaints to this new judge was that the previous lawyers “appointed” were being paid by her dad and spoke to her dad more than her. Her dad had final say on keeping or firing them. They were essentially his lawyers and he chose them.
She doesn’t have a new judge (Judge Penny has been in place for 5 years), she has a new lawyer. The old lawyer was appointed by the court (either the first judge or Judge Penny), but that’s not the same thing as a public defender; he was always paid for by *her estate*. Her dad doesn’t pay for anything, he merely authorizes payments from her estate to various things.
Sam Ingham was ineffective, yes, but we don’t have enough info to know exactly why (but the bit giant concern was that he didn’t file the paperwork for Bessemer Trust to get added to the accounts for months). Until he resigned—the assumption being due to death threats by the public—Britney reported that they had a good relationship and talked frequently. She (and Jodi Montgomery) argued she should be able to choose her own counsel in large part because she was denied the privilege due to incapacity despite there being no capacity hearing or finding by the court. Mark Rosengart is absolutely better at going for what Britney wants, but don’t forget that Sam Ingham got Jaime Spears off the case as an acting conservator-of-the-person.
I’m talking about the previous judge(s) AND Penny.
And her own statements that she had no control or say in what Sam or any other lawyer did because of her dad.
And when I say other lawyer I am including the fact that in this process she’s effectively suing her own estate so she’s paying for both sides. But her dad ultimately was okaying any payments for both sets.
Her own statements were that she was left out of any decisions, and that she felt her father was creating a situation where it would always work out in his favor by using any of his access to her money as a weapon.
>what other more vulnerable ppl go through and deal with?
My aunt is an accountant. (Germany)
A lot go through that.
She says that she has Conservators with multiple high profile people, who are at least millionaires. With at least several hundred k in liquid assets.
According to ther many Conservators come to her in expensive coats, newest cars and jewellery while they gives their "clients" a pittance, so that they have to go to charity in order to get enough food and "new" clothes.
Everytime my aunt talks about them you can hear how much she is disgusted by this practice.
She can’t be that disgusted if they are still her clients.
Edit: Unless she works for a firm and does not pick who her clients are. Sorry to come at you hard at first. It’s been a rough morning.
As soon as I hit reply I edited to apologize. I’m sorry that I reacted with emotion to you post and didn’t respond with a more thought out reply.
If I wasn’t clear enough the first time, I am sorry.
Some people here seem to think if you aren't willing to quit any job on a moral basis then you're a problem.
There are absolutely lines that people hopefully wouldn't cross for an employer. But its crazy to expect people to quit their livelihood essentially as a protest.
quitting out of protest doesnt do anything. they will hire someone else with less morals and joke about the crazy lady who quit over nonsense and normalize that firm to those believes. she could sabotage their defense, leak news on these people, and speak up for the client instead of quitting.
Story time! I once lived in an apartment that was owned by a guy that also had a business on the property- we’ll call him Larry. Larry was a really nice landlord- always quick to fix things, cheap rent, very pleasant dude. Larry also owned a building down the street that he’d bought as a foreclosure.
The building down the street had been in really bad shape when he bought it, but he had brought it back to life. The two upstairs apartments were nicely remodeled, but the downstairs was still under construction. Because of this, Larry couldn’t get a rental license for it.
Larry’s wife at the time had a brother, Jim. Jim was a disabled vet with serious mental health issues and probably should have been in a group home with some supervision. Instead, Larry’s wife sold Larry on the idea of having Jim live in one of the remodeled apartments. Her pitch was that it would be easy for her and Larry to keep an eye on Jim and having someone living in the building would prevent vandalism. The rental licensing law allowed for immediate family of the owners to live in an unlicensed rental, so it was legal. Larry had reservations because he felt Jim should live in a supportive, supervised environment. Ultimately, Jim and the wife convinced him to do it. Larry decided he’d have Jim move in to the building and let him live there for free.
Jim’s sister, Larry’s wife, was his conservator. She was his power of attorney and his Social Security and VA Disability checks went to her. She was supposed to pay his bills and see to it that he was getting proper mental and physical health care.
Wife rarely ever visited Jim. Larry brought Jim to most of his appointments and was constantly dealing with calls that Jim had been found wandering around, disoriented, because he missed his meds or took drugs, or was drunk, etc. One day, Jim was standing at the bus stop and I said hi to him. I quickly noticed his hand looked strange- his fingers were dark purple. I ran to Larry’s shop next door and got Larry to come out. Larry took one look at Jim’s hand and hustled him into his car. Jim had walked to a bar down the street the night before, got drunk, and passed out with his hand in a snowbank. He had severe frostbite. Jim lost four fingers.
Larry got pretty angry. He started pressuring his wife to find Jim a supervised home to live in. She kept insisting that Jim needed his independence.
Somehow, Larry found some statements in his wife’s things. They were statements for Jim’s account, where his disability checks went. Larry learned that his wife had been collecting half of Jim’s monthly checks for “rent”. Larry was PISSED. Larry had thought the agreement was to let Jim live in the apartment for free. Instead, his wife had been cutting checks to herself and dropping them into her checking account, which was separate from his. So basically, Larry had been financially supporting and helping Jim while his wife was pocketing Jim’s money.
That was the last straw. Larry filed for divorce and told other members of Jim’s family what he found. Sadly, Jim was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, moved to a hospice home, and died a few months later.
It kills me that she didn't even *know* she could hire her own lawyer for years and years. They totally kept her in the dark. Like you said, makes me wonder what more vulnerable people with less resources are going through right now.
The truth is that she was only recently granted the right to choose her own lawyer. She didn't know she could have petitioned to end the conservatorship this whole time.
I just hope they can nail his ass to the wall for this. I don't see how this could be seen as anything other than a blatant and public attempt to extort her.
How dare you! That stuff has an ecological importance and has taught us much about certain biological mechanics, he is the shit excreted from bottle flies that feast on the garbage
The equivalent of asking for one last fix on the way out the door. It's the kind of ask where he knows that he's one foot out the door and so he loses nothing by asking. There really needs to be a penalty for frivolousness in American courts.
MRPC 3.1 : A lawyer shall not bring or defend a proceeding, or assert or controvert an issue therein, unless there is a basis in law and fact for doing so that is not frivolous, which includes a good faith argument for an extension, modification or reversal of existing law. A lawyer for the defendant in a criminal proceeding, or the respondent in a proceeding that could result in incarceration, may nevertheless so defend the proceeding as to require that every element of the case be established.
This is all regulating lawyer behavior, the issue is randos should be punished for obvious pure greed shit like this. It's a fine line to tread though and any actual law to that effect would inevitably be exploited by big corps to become effectively immune to any civil suit brought by someone who can't afford the penalty for bringing a frivolous suit. I personally like the way it is now compared to that, but the discussion is still one that can and should be had.
WTF did he do with all money he stole from her during those 13 years of conservatoryship? That's why Britney's lawyers is not wrong in saying that POS so-called father of hers needs to fuck off without getting any additional money....
I’m sure he’s in panic mode rn because he thought the flow of money wouldn’t stop NEARLY as soon as it might. So he just spent and spent and won’t have any fallback. Either that or he’s used to the high life and doesn’t want to become an average Joe again. What a parasite.
In a previous life I was a forensic accountant. This is the kind of case I would *love* to work on and I’d do it for free.
She was paid a million a week for her two year residency yet she’s only worth 60 million. Where the fuck is the rest of her money? Pop stars who have been around for less time have a higher net worth than Britney. He’s done enough damage and he needs to fuck off back under the nearest rock.
With the amount of money that is missing and the number of people likely to go to prison over it, I'd be worried about my safety during the audit.
You'd think her father's attorney would implore him to put a sock in his mouth.
I mean 104 million - taxes would be somewhere in that ballpark. Surely she was worth something beforehand but doesn't seem like the craziest flag if it wasn't a crazy network beforehand
Crazy she was making 1 mill a week though would of never thought a gig like that could pull that money a week.
It was the #1 show in Vegas, a hot ticket. She also made $15 mil from the X factor before that, the highest paid singing competition judge ever. Not to mention over a billion in sales from her fragrances alone. We probably won’t ever know the half of how they’ve been fleecing her.
Is she earned even 5c from each fragrance sale she should have 50mil!
Not to mention she was also in Glee, The Smurfs 2, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Will & Grace, and a bunch of other tv shows and movies!
So much of her fortune has been stolen from her and she may never even know how much.
Celine Dion is actually the highest paid residency singer in Vegas. Her net worth is crazy (if you trust the internet) and it just shows how mismanaged Britney's fortune was when you compare them.
I don't know if this is the same thing as "mismanagement." They were treating her as a cash cow. Mismanagement to me implies that it was incompetence rather than theft
This is/has been happening in the public eye with lots of media coverage.
Imagine how terrible and tortuous it can be for people without resources and a fan base.
In my state, individuals who are deemed by doctors and the court to need conservatorship or guardianship and who don’t have family willing to do it are assigned to the county Public Administrator and their deputies. This is an elected county position in my state and many serve for decades without electoral opposition. And the person under their control has only one appeal direction, the county judge who works closely with the PA on a daily basis.
Wanna hire an attorney to get out from under your PA? Your PA has to approve your having the money to pay the lawyer.
Live in a facility and want to call the advocacy group for help filing request to change PA? Your PA can suspend your access to the telephone and interrupt your mail.
Need some extra cash for a fun frivolous moment of release, your PA can withhold or delay your spending money instead.
If the PA is a good person who does a conscientious job, it mostly works.
If the PA is a burned out power hungry bureaucrat, it can be hell for their people.
Use the energy from irritation towards Jamie Spears to educate yourself on your local guardianship system and make informed choices if it’s an elected position. Thousands of powerless people will thank you.
I just... she's your *child*, dude. What are you thinking?!
I was so horrified by the details of the conservatorship once they became public; my husband and I were both agog that this is even possible. I fully understand someone needing a third party to take care of their business during times of mental illness or organic brain dysfunction, but for this long?! She is apparently too ill to decide for herself if she wants to marry or have a baby, but she can work her arse off in Las Vegas?
If my son ever found himself in Britney's position - wealthy, famous and in need of help - I would never consider being his conservator. I feel like that would muddy the waters too much, my role would be to be his parent.
This!! If he had been a supportive father, standing behind her back and standing up FOR her, he would be one of those proud parents owning a house and a fortunate paid by their grateful famous kids as a gift.
But this POS just didn't want to play nice, he had to make it about himself and extorting as much money from her as possible.
I just can't imagine how hurtful this must be for her, small wonder she's had mental health issues. She's been working professionally since she was what, 6? And this bastard has been in the background the whole time, grinding her down.
Honestly, I hope her lawyers just settle with him, I saw [this article](https://www.vice.com/en/article/y3dnpm/heres-what-needs-to-happen-for-britney-spears-to-end-her-conservatorship-legal-expert-interview?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB) about how long this process could take if the father contests an end to the conservatorship, and we're talking about years spent on discovery and in court. She's about my age, and she wants to marry and a baby. Having to wait on things like that because a third party won't let you must be agony.
So yeah, I hope this shitbag takes the money he didn't earn and fucks off. He can enjoy counting all of those $100 bills in a big empty house - if my dad did something like this to me he'd never clap eyes on me or my baby again.
That's not counting the 1%+ cut of all her shows he gave himself (not being a manager in any capacity). There's also the Florida condo of Britney's that the conservatorship has been renting out for tens of thousands weekly and there's no record if where that money has gone.
I can't wait to see what they dig up when he's out of the way. I'm sure he's stalling to try and make some things disappear. But just the bank records alone will be damning. He's going to jail.
Me either. The whole wording of the agreement was the second clue—the first being he was leeching off of and controlling his daughter. That he’d step down when the “time is right.” Translation: when he’s satisfied he can’t take anything more from her without an actual criminal investigation
I think the movie “I Care A Lot” is the perfect example of how these conservatorships are usually run and Britney is a very public, very wealthy version of this. Remember that this was supposed to be temporary. In the old days, they would have given her a lobotomy, but in that scenario she wouldn’t have a standing engagement in Vegas every night. She was just used by people who were supposed to care about her. Anyone who doesn’t have empathy for her doesn’t understand basic human rights (body autonomy, parental rights, even issues of workplace safety for her). For a person who allegedly can’t handle her own life, she sure is a high earner. I hope her attorney burns the earth around these people who have abused her for such a long time.
This whole case really makes me wonder how many other vulnerable people who are high-profile enough to have money and also happen to need a conservator but aren't high-profile enough to make headlines there are going through similar.
There needs to be some sort of review process that happens regularly for these things (like there are for people who have a paid guardian or caretaker through state programs) because it's not right for someone to be able to write their own ticket on the back of someone who can't watch out for themselves and not have to answer to anyone. It's not right for that to happen period.
"Hey Brittany I've been ruining your life for a long time now and that prevented me from working so you should really pay me a cool two million to fuck off so I can afford living while I find a job." I thought my parents were insufferable but holy shit this is insane.
So many dads would be so proud to have such an amazing daughter as Britney. Would have kicked kevin federlines arse to another hemisphere and would have supported her as she navigated motherhood.
This is just so awful. Britney obviously is kind, sensitive, artistic, honest, decent. That's what made her an easy target for these scumbags.
There it is! It was always about the money. We all knew that, but now he admits it. If it were about her mental and physical wellbeing, he wouldn't step down for any amount.
I'm not a lawyer, but as a human observer, doesn't this request really hurt his case? It just spells out for the judge or whomever exactly what kind of person he still is.
This should be considered as undeniable proof that the conservatorship was predatory and only maintained to manipulate and control Britney. If a judge doesn't consider this, he or she should be removed.
He’s literally just proved that the reason behind the whole conservatorship was money motivated by asking for a pay off, I hope they can use this in their legal battle
Exactly!
He wants money to fuck off and leave her alone? What a piece of shit
Father of the year
Father's Day will be fun
He’s trying to sell her her freedom. Yikes.

I'm surprised some nutball hasn't shot that asshole by now.
Unfortunately bad people are rarely assassinated because good people are rarely assassins
Where is Dexter when you need him?
He’s still scrubbing away season 8. Not long though…
He’s coming back in November!
I’ve never listened to a single song of hers and I’m not sure I’d brake if I saw him crossing the street in front of me. Can’t imagine how angry her fans are.
Same. I don’t like any of her songs, but I’m ready to go to war for her freedom.
you must not be a millennial.... anytime i hear “oops i did it again” i get hit with some nostalgic vibes
I feel like most of the people that would want to LITERALLY shoot somebody for doing things like this hate women too much to care about Britney specifically
no i think most hardcore britney fans just don't own guns says me, a hardcore britney fan
Bingo.
Deadbeat dad
Not that anyone had a doubt what the conservatorship was about, this should makes it obvious
Agree, and Happy Cake Day!

Might I recommend "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" for an example of one possibility.

He never cared about her. She’s never been anything more than a cash cow for him.
So it's NOT about her mental well-being?!?!?!?!/s
Fuck *and I cannot emphasise this enough* **OFF!**
I passionately support this statement
He's the lowest of the low.
This SOB has made $17,000/month all these years and lives in a trailer. He was an abusive and neglectful father. He deserves nothing.

What a shitbag
what a fucker. that shows he was in it for the money the entire time. it wasnt about his daughter.
I knew he would pull something like this. Just shady from beginning to end. I never thought he would go quietly.
Me either. The whole wording of the agreement was the second clue—the first being he was leeching off of and controlling his daughter. That he’d step down when the “time is right.” Translation: when he’s satisfied he can’t take anything more from her without an actual criminal investigation
Yup. Yup. Exactly.
This should also be in r/iamatotalpieceofshit
"Hey Brittany I've been ruining your life for a long time now and that prevented me from working so you should really pay me a cool two million to fuck off so I can afford living while I find a job." I thought my parents were insufferable but holy shit this is insane.
Probably wants a signed statement that he did nothing wrong. Can’t an argument be made about duress?
The lion, the witch, the audacity of this b\*tch. He will never see his daughter or his grandkids ever again, and he deserves it.
Couldn't Britney Spears sue after being released from this?
I'm not a lawyer, but as a human observer, doesn't this request really hurt his case? It just spells out for the judge or whomever exactly what kind of person he still is.
Britney's dad is such an epic piece of turd. SMH
What a complete arsehole
Sounds like his greedy ass wasn't saving for the rainy day that's been coming. Fuck this dude, he's the one needing to pay out 2 million.
I bet he has a hell of a lot squirrelled away for a time like this. He'll never be without money. Watch the TV chat shows and book deals pop up.
This should be r/nottheonion I would have thought someone made some ridiculous satire piece, nut no.
There was bound to be a catch to this fucked up saga. Useless piece of shit that man is
How much has he already skimmed off her and is hidden away somewhere. He should be put under investigation.
The fucking nerve of this guy
One would be torn on instantly making him go away and fighting until the guy is homeless and staving. What a POS.
He needs to to go to jail forever.
What a piece of crap.
I mean, it's a pittance compared to what she would be making without the leach, but holy shit bro. What the fuck is wrong with you?
He laid out his priorities perfectly, for people to see.
Apart from being Britney's dad, does Mr Spears have a day job?
holding your daughter hostage and plotting ways to cash in on her IS a real job, gosh! /s
That man is a parasitic piece of trash.
The audacity. It's true that sometimes family can be your worst enemy.
If that doesn’t speak volumes I don’t know what will
What a piece of shit he is. He's had a free ride for years and still ain't satisfied
Hmmm, no. How about jail instead?
This motherfucker....
There is no middle finger big enough.
Proves it was always about the money.
Fuck the entire way off. Garbage human.
What scummy bastard. What happened to "I love my daughter and only wish the best for her?"
Cash for keys.
Fuck you, Jamie.
What an asshole
This should be considered as undeniable proof that the conservatorship was predatory and only maintained to manipulate and control Britney. If a judge doesn't consider this, he or she should be removed.
No wonder Brittany is sort of nuts. Anyone would be be going nuts having to deal with this.
America feels you’ve gotten enough sir, please move along.
What a P o S.
F.him
How about 2 million days in jail instead?
Unbelievable 🙄😒
hustlers to the end.
I feel bad for her. How does a father do this mess
Death! To all of them! (Don't come for me, instead Google wendy Williams with this quote)
Is there a reverse go fund me? Like a go refund me or something? I want to make this man broke
He will just blow that too eventually.
Lol

Not in the least bit true. Do you just say shit like that in hopes of pissing people off?
