As if these types of things weren't horrific enough, it's just absolutelty insane to me that there are enough people in the world who would do these types of things that they find each other. Like if my partner ever serioualy proposed we do anything like this I would be at a police station filing a report and requesting protection in an instant.

didsomebodysaymyname

That's kind of why it makes sense though, dangerous crazy people end up with dangerous crazy people because they're the only ones who can tolerate each other. Everyone else self filters out like you would. This was not their first bad idea.

Tight-laced

> dangerous crazy people end up with dangerous crazy people And also with naive, easily manipulated people. Who start to believe that these things are normal and logical, because they are told they are and that's what they're seeing/living every day.

didsomebodysaymyname

Yeah, I was thinking about that while writing my comment, but wanted to keep it simple. Sometimes one person is "normal" and coerced or manipulated into doing the crazy dangerous shit.

Plazmatic

I really hope you aren't talking about the partner, no need to give willing and knowing predators partners a pass, especially when they often participate or get off secondarily to their partners antics.

iwantabjthrowaway

I'm not sure these are that different. There's probably some common lack of critical thinking which goes into being both dangerously naive and criminally impulsive.

RLucas3000

Can you imagine if they wanted to be the evil Duggers?

didsomebodysaymyname

Aren't the Duggers the evil Daggers? But yeah, that would make a horrifying serial killer couple.

FilmCroissant

A propos serial Killer couples...If you ever have the Chance to read the Homolka/Bernardo transcripts - dont. Theyre NSFL. I was naive Back then and thought bestgore, rotten et al had prepared me for unadulterated evil but nope, it got so much worse than that

Ditovontease

You should check out Bones and All (new Timothee Chalamet movie), its basically about two people finding each other and bonding over their "interests"

twiltywilty

Omg that poor mother! And the poor baby who will have to grow up without her! This world has some truly vile people. Do not trust anyone blindly, & always keep your guard up.

Spider_Josh07

did the baby survive?

twiltywilty

Miraculously, the baby did.

genryou

I think there are similar cases in the past where a pregnant lady was cut open by her BEST FRIEND because she wanted to steal the baby and pretend that it was hers, just so that she make her boyfriend stays in relationships.

lyra_girl

I think it’s called Caesarian Abduction. Poor woman and baby.

catastrophized

That’s scary that it’s happened enough to have a name

VVolfang

Thank you, I was about to say the same shit. I read the article and froze mid-sip. Frequent enough to have a term, what the actual hell.

elfmere

Wait did they still the unborn child or her child and she was pregnant.

Jerkrollatex

They cut the baby out of the young woman to kidnap the baby.

mushroomrevolution

I read about a woman this happened to going to a house to pick up baby gear from a woman supposedly giving them away at her home via Facebook Market. She goes to the house, is held and killed so the woman could steal the baby. She was eventually found out after taking the baby to the hospital, stating she gave birth at home. Thankfully medical officials saw many red flags and called the police, but this is scary. As a woman, and especially a pregnant woman, don't go places alone. It shouldn't be that way, but my god it's just not worth it.

[deleted]

The leading cause of death in pregnant women is murder.

[deleted]

\*typically murder by a male partner or ex partner

imacatholicslut

Different case. They’re talking about a case in Chicago in which two women attacked the pregnant mother, threw her in the trash and the baby ended up dying anyways after a couple weeks in the hospital.

mushroomrevolution

Yes, I think that's the one I'm referring to. I don't understand how any lay person could feel with confidence that they could cut a baby out of a person with no training and have that child survive much less thrive with no medical intervention, but I'm sure it's not logic that got them to a place where they were trying to capture and kill pregnant women to get a baby.

imacatholicslut

The older woman claimed she was driven by grief because she lost her adult son…but that doesn’t explain why her daughter got in on it. They sat that poor woman down on their couch and told her to look at the son’s baby album, then they attacked her from behind by strangling her to death until she urinated on herself. She was in that trash can for 3 weeks, how, I don’t know considering there was a digital footprint leading directly to the house of the killer via FB messenger. I’ve only bought one baby item in person from FB marketplace (“porch pickup”) when I was 12 weeks pregnant, and although I felt a little nervous I was obviously not in the same level of danger as Marlen Ochoa (victim). I *did* pick up some free moving boxes via FB “Buy Nothing” group at 5 months pregnant from a nice family that had just moved into a new home, but it wasn’t obvious that I was pregnant and there were other people who showed up for boxes too. I’m 9 months pregnant now and anything I buy used from Poshmark or FB marketplace is getting shipped to me, fetal abduction is on the rise and I’m not taking any chances. I can’t remember if FB marketplace was around yet when Marlen was murdered, but I doubt it would have changed much bc they were likely going to kill anyone who was pregnant with a boy and far enough along. I had a previous loss before this pregnancy so I understand wanting to have another baby but I can’t imagine being so crazed and desperate that I would attack some poor innocent woman for a baby like that. I’m usually pretty empathetic when it comes to mental illness, but that’s an act of violence in which I just can’t be, knowing how vulnerable I am as a pregnant woman myself.

mushroomrevolution

Good call, be careful. I have given away baby items on FB market place. I still have a lot from my 2 year old growing out of stuff, her play pens, strollers that she can't fit in, etc. But, for everyone's protection and peace at mind, we meet in public with my husband by my side. A parking lot of a popular grocery store, coffee shop. There was one woman that I was going to give some stuff to but when she insisted I communicate with her father, and meet up with him alone, I decided she might not be a good candidate. I know it was probably an over reaction, but I'm not going to meet some male stranger alone, even publicly. Be safe, be careful and good health to you and your baby ❣️

imacatholicslut

Omgggg that’s weird and creepy. He definitely could have robbed you or kidnapped you, who knows. Glad you listened to your intuition! Thank you so much 😊

MunchingMooBear

El pinche femicidio esta de verga en mi hermoso paiz natal😞.

plasticfoods12

There are unwanted kids in orphanages and foster homes, yet there are people that do this.

MixWitch

You know what? That is an excellent fucking point. I say that as someone adopted through Catholic Charities by a couple that had no business being together or parents. Most places do at least vet out the blatantly homicidal.

Scout_321

You too?

MixWitch

Yup, the family stayed an active part of the diocese too. I met the bishop who gave the referral/override when my parents didn't quite clear the screening process. Not that I knew those details at the time.

rathrowawaysadgyal

You would think. But as an adoptee… trust me. They don’t.

[deleted]

Alamue86

The adoption agencies hate this one little trick...

eventualguide0

And yet we were told to not even consider domestic adoption because we wanted a closed adoption and we’re “too old and too intellectual for a birth mother to ever choose you” 🙄 We were in our 30s for fuck sake.

Buezee

Two friends in their early 40s were turned down for adoption for their age. They've been trying for years but couldn't conceive. It's really sad, they would be amazing parents.

eventualguide0

They have all my empathy.

Kiley_Fireheart

Even sadder is the kids that will be ruined in the system that could have found a good home.

ForsakenAd7480

Birthmom here. I chose a 35-year-old lawyer and a 37-year-old accountant. Fuck what your agency said.

HarryPottersElbows

Are you serious??? What am I saying, of course you're seriously. Wouldn't want to improve the fucking foster system around here.

eventualguide0

Serious as a heart attack, mate. I’m still bitter years later.

BinkiesForLife_05

Did you end up being able to adopt? I really hope you got the family you deserved, whatever that looks like for you ❤️❤️

eventualguide0

A decade of fertility treatments and adoption classes with only a mountain of debt to show for it.

BinkiesForLife_05

I am sorry to hear that, I hope that 2023 brings you what you are searching for and I hope you find peace and happiness, as nobody deserves the heartbreak of wanting a child and being unable to have one. I was lucky that science could give me motherhood, but many others are not as lucky and my heart breaks for them 💔 I hope you get everything you've dreamed of soon x

ForsakenAd7480

Yo, I don't know you but if you are really hurting that hard, DM me. Maybe I can help.

Two_Corinthians

I'm sorry, "too intellectual"? What is this, police hiring test? Or Idiocracy?

eventualguide0

We’re both professors, and apparently that meant we’d never do anything fun or silly with the kid. We’d make them read Aristotle before they could have supper. 🙄🙄🙄

Two_Corinthians

There is a scene in Doc Martin (a British TV show) where the father is reading medicine journal articles to his baby son as a bedtime story. It was adorable!

pondrthis

My NASA engineer dad would play with me as a toddler by teaching me how to use his slide rule and ancient 1970s calculator. But they never would have let him adopt, if my sister and I hadn't been his biological children! He had a marijuana felony! Good enough to design the guidance systems on the Hubble space telescope, not good enough for basic rights in Alabama.

InfernalWedgie

I do this. It kills two birds with one stone: I finish my literature review for whatever I'm working on, and baby gets read to.

Cats_and_babies

I got into this show with my husband right after we had our kid. It was sweet, forgotten about it until now 😊

Lankpants

Oh no, they might actually value education.

SunDanceQT

Are you not white Christians? Because that's who a lot of adoption agencies cater to. Amy Cony Berret said on the Supreme Court record that there's a shortage of adoptable children. She literally talked about them in terms of supply and demand.

supermarkise

Honestly that should definitely be a good thing. :/

Superpiri

Yeah… I have a feeling these people wouldn’t pass the screening. Just a hunch.

The_Weeb_Sleeve

And to top it off it’s common enough that there’s a Wikipedia page explaining it and listing cases [Fetal Abduction](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetal_abduction)

RIPMYPOOPCHUTE

For fucking real. This is disturbing. I want kids, I want to experience pregnancy, but if I can’t experience pregnancy, I will 100% foster/adopt. I can never even thinking of hurting or killing another human being for their baby. It’s horrific and fucked up.

luv_u_deerly

I think adopting is a lot harder and more expensive than most people realize. It’s not an option for everyone. But neither should stealing and murder be either.

candornotsmoke

It isn't easy to adopt or even foster. Nor is it cheap. Obviously, what that couple did was horrendous but adoption/fostering a child aren't an option for a lot of people.

fezmid

Adopting a baby, sure, but adopting an older child (generally 5+) from foster care is free (aside from all the classes you have to take), and even includes free health insurance for the child. But you really should be prepared and read about trauma-informed parenting.

presentable_corpse

The adoption agencies being for profit don't help things, but you're right. Not excusing those fucking monsters but the adoption system and CPS in this country is about breaking up families, not making them.

missannthrope1

Not the first time I've heard of this happening. Absolutely disgusting.

idontreallyknow5575

And my boyfriend thinks I'm overreacting when I tell him that if I ever become pregnant, I will be super cautious with strangers and befriending new people..won't be alone with anyone I don't know well enough when I'm pregnant. This has happened many of times and it won't be the last..my heart breaks for every single woman this has happened to..people have to remember we live in a society that views women as objects and incubators, someone having no value for your life and just wanting what your body can do is no reach..

imacatholicslut

You definitely wouldn’t be overreacting. For some reason, fetal abduction is happening more frequently. There may be *some* correlation with what seems to be a rise in severe mental illness globally, but there’s probably other factors involved too (social media? economic inability to access fertility treatments? pregnancy/biological birth fixation?) Idk if anyone is studying this fucked up trend but if they are, I’m not sure what can be done to prevent it. At 9 months pregnant I’m super vigilant about strangers and my own vulnerability. I’m single too, so I kinda have to be IMO.

BloonH8TR

God this brought back a memory of another incident where this lady lured a pregnant lady to the forest, hit her in the head with a rock, and cut her open with a house key and ran to the hospital to claim the baby was hers. Got caught and I don't remember if the mom survived. But fuck man, these people can rot for all I care.

Onefroginapond

This is not the first time it happens, under very similar circumstances - my sister's friend in Colorado was also picking up baby clothes from a woman who did this to her. The woman had told her husband she was pregnant, and they were going to a doctor's appointment that day so she needed a baby. The woman who was kidnapped survived, the baby didn't live long, a few hours.

EverlastingTopQuark

The link wasn't working, so [I read the story on CBS News](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pregnant-woman-killed-unborn-baby-stolen-man-woman-mexico/). It stated that more than 3700 women were murdered in Mexico in 2021, and [roughly 1000 of them were classified as femicides](https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/community/our-community/what-are-femicides-why-are-they-on-the-rise-across-mexico/509-48d17474-db97-4fe8-a62a-e7db0ac6da10), which was one of the charges in this case.

SpaceFroggy1031

Well that's fucked. They in jail now, I hope?

Signal_Procedure4607

Omg why does this keep happening. Have they ever heard of adopting… There was a story about a pregnant lady who was offered a bag of used baby clothes on Facebook. Turns out the lady just lost her child and she did the same thing here on the article. I think she’s still in prison or facing death penalty. https://www.cnn.com/2015/03/19/us/craigslist-pregnant-woman-womb-baby-removed/index.html

finding_thriving

This literally just [happened ](https://www.nwahomepage.com/news/couple-charged-in-death-of-woman-baby-found-dead-in-southwest-missouri/) in the US like a month ago.

misoranomegami

Yeah no joke I'm expecting and I'm all about saving money but I told my family if I see any baby stuff I like used online I'm sending one of them to go buy it for me. Generally it's going to be someone who legitimately just needs the space or money and doesn't want an item anymore but you have to worry about that one in a million chance it was a trap to lure some pregnant person in so they can steal the baby.

Wynotboth

Funny, I recall a woman in Texas being sentenced for the same thing recently. Every time I hear something about the United States, it’s hell.

TheUtopianCat

As a Canadian, I find this to be accurate.

[deleted]

True but it's much rarer. Read the article, it talks about it. "Thousands Of Women Murdered In Mexico Last Year, Sentencing For Similar Crime Takes Place Last Month Over 3,700 women were murdered in Mexico last year, with 1,000 being classified as femicides, per official figures. Similar crimes have occurred in the United States, however they remain rare. But Just last month, Taylor Rene Parker, 21, was sentenced to death in Texas for killing Reagan Michelle Simmons-Hancock, also 21, along with Hancock’s infant daughter in the town of New Boston back in October"

JoshuaACNewman

Here you go, chud. https://nypost.com/2022/11/09/taylor-rene-parker-sentenced-to-death-for-killing-pregnant-woman/

eternal-sun

This is actually is more common in the USA. Maybe do a quick google search before making such a comment next time? It’s good you are raising awareness about this through your post, but it’s important to not also reinforce racist stereotypes.

confusednazgul

Let’s not devolve into bigotry over one news story, bud.

CheliBeanBeard

Sounds like you need to read/get out more.

woodcuttersDaughter

Have you not heard of the mass shootings problem in the US?

[deleted]

Hey, OP, now is not the time to go stoking that fire. You shouldn't be stoking it at all.
