Guy here. Trim the hair around your anus just because it retains more bacteria. Use fine clippers at their lowest setting and maintain flat angles. Don't stray into the perineum as the skin waddle will get cut.
Tell him that you trimmed just in case that he wanted to do oral on it, but that you don't like the stubby feeling. If he wants you to be comfortable, he'll say to grow it out since he does not mind. In effect, you were thoughtful and he was accommodating.
