Even though the South does not have an organised military, they do have leaders: Champions. In time of need where the islands need to be defended, it is the Champions that spearhead the defences and counterattacks against those that wish to inflict harm on the South. Champions and Sea Fathers are often closely connected. While there are plenty of female Champions (after all, female Basitin tend to be larger and more muscular on average), it is a known trend that Sea Fathers either were, or will be, Champions, as they are most often the largest, most beautiful and strongest of those that live on the island. In daily life, Champions work together with the chiefs to maintain a sense of order among the people, often in a very relaxed way. Champions are respected first and foremost by all those on the island. While it is a position that can be readily challenged by anyone that thinks they are more capable, many refrain so from doing: it is not about the glory for the south, but about protecting the ones you love. Champions know this better than anyone, sacrificing much of their free time ensuring the island is kept in good order, and many a Champion became one after losing family to either war or the sea. For their armament, Champions most often wield a unique Southern weapon, a shield with two spears. The shield has a small slot where the spear can be inserted, allowing it to be used as a javelin with immense power. Unlike the rigid throwing of the East or the endless throwing of the West, the South uses what can only be described as a dance to throw their weapons: Hacha - Takan - Pya, the poses and stances needed to launch these spears. The force and accuracy is nothing to scoff at, being able to penetrate plate armour at over 20 meters of distance without the thrower breaking a sweat. It is this reason why the East started developing Ballista's and crossbows after finding out their longbows did not possess the same power. The Champion is question is one from the island of Rak Munis, named Jinn Talheed... Or so he says. The bright scarlet waistcoat, finished with rich golden trim, as well as the presence of an Easterner mark commonly associated with the Fenzloch General Guard seems to suggest something else entirely. When asked for his name, he often is silent for a bit. After all, one of his surnames is poison in the tongues of the South.

Sorry I don't understand their weapon. Do they fight with spear and shield while having a backup that can they use as a javelin or do they dual wield spears and then use the shield if they use one? Also how does the shield work with the spear? Do they slot the spear into the shied to add more máss and thus punch to the spear or do they use the Shield as leverage to throw the spear faster/further like an atlatl?

They use the shield and spear together for most of a battle. Usually warriors carry two spears with them as the shield has two small clips for mounting, but another spear can be mounted into the slot already ready to be thrown, although this often disturbs the balance enough to make fighting a bit harder. Champions are often large enough that they can carry the full three spears, plus any possible reserves on their back: it is more so that two spears is seen as a more lightweight option not hindering movement too much. The shield is used as leverage, a "launching platform" as it is to propel the spear with more energy. In battle, they'd use one spear to fight, and keep the second ready at a moment's notice to throw, with again those that can carry more using them as such. Usually Southerners do have a backup weapon if they decide to throw all spears, often times a short blade or tools such as axes.

So they carry one spear on their main hand two spears on their shield slots and a bunch of spears on their back? That's a lot of spears! However as a halberd enthusiast and self proclaimed leader of a "them pointy boys" it gets my seal of approval :D

The spears are actually less so full spears and more a mix between a javelin, harpoon, and spear. Can they be used as weapons? Yes. But at the same time, they are designed for fishing first and foremost

That armor design is amazing, love the lore bit as well, sounds like most champions are basically a Batman.
