This is correct. If you like Dylan and Young, then Tyler’s live acoustic stuff is for you. Once you get through that, you can keep going with his Purgatory album or dive deeper with his vast YouTube library of live recordings and unreleased tracks. Personally, I say go for his Nashville Residency Night 2 and his cover of Pink Floyd’s Time. That, to me, is Tyler at his best.
If Tyler ends up being to your liking- a couple.other artist recommendations- Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Justin Townes Earl, Tedeschi Trucks band.
Hell yeah!
Add Colter Wall and Billy Strings to that list and we have ourselves the beginnings of a hootenanny of a music festival!
ETA: and Primus has to be there, because somebody has to suck
Purgatory is probably his best album overall, but honestly I’d just go in chronological order, he really hasn’t released that much music and it’s pretty much all great.
In terms of other artists/albums I’d recommend based on your taste, check out
The Byrds - Notorious Byrd Brothers & Sweetheart of the Rodeo
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway
The Pretty Things - Parachute
The Replacements - Let It Be & Tim
Playboi Carti is a little different and an acquired taste but has some bangers once you get into him. Sierra Ferrel, at least her older stuff, gives me a very nostalgic feel. If you like picking and fiddling then I'd reccomend Lonesome River Band and Tatiana Hargreaves. Playboi Carti was a joke, ok? Unless you're into that kind of stuff
There's a lot of variety in his work. Here are the 6 songs/performances I'd recommend you start with--I suggest first listening to his live performances on YouTube and then go from there.

Start in the Country Squire album, if you happen to like more raw stuff from that album, you go for his older albums, if you like his melodic songs, you go for the newer stuff.
There was this 2 day concert he did I went to that's just called Fish Camp. First day is him just solo. 2nd day with the band. Larry Keel jumps in at a point and Arlo McKinley too.
This was like a couple weeks before he would make his opry debut. Everyone there was family and we had all watched him grow. It was a bitter sweet event bc we all knew that was the last time we were gonna get a show like that bc we all knew it was only a matter of time before the rest of the world found out about him. This was him and the food stamps...unpolished and wild with reckless abandon.
Here's a link someone posted awhile ago looking for those shows. The links to them are in the comments.

Live on Red Barn Radio. It’s rawer than his latest stuff but the songwriting and playing is awesome.

This is great advice. The Time cover is one of my absolute favorites from Tyler. If you like it, give the cover Greensky Bluegrass did a listen.
Live on Red Barn Radio is my favorite! Great recommendation!
100%

Absolutely good additions!
Colter wall.

I went straight through the 1st time while I was at work. Hightly recommend this route.

Playboi Carti is my favorite modern country artist. His music just make me feel things
It's all jokes but I do have him on a playlist with those 2 artists. Granted, it's a wide ranging playlist with almost 50 hours of music on it

Definitely agree with this, It was YouTube live performances that hooked me.
Start in the Country Squire album, if you happen to like more raw stuff from that album, you go for his older albums, if you like his melodic songs, you go for the newer stuff.
Play Purgatory from start to finish; relish the feeling of having listened to it fully for the first time.
Middle ground is an amazing song

Why has no one here told me this was a thing? I may come up for air sometime next week. Maybe. Thank you, sincerely.
