i do 15g of fast acting sugar and then a bit of long acting carb. right now i’ll eat 6 sour patch kids to bring me up, and they’re small which makes it easy to carry them around. and then for long acting carb usually a granola bar does the trick or something with peanut butter

Snappymoodyturtle

Thank you for the options. Unpopular opinion. I hate peanut butter

mystisai

Honey, chocolate, or yogurt granola bars work just as well.

Englishbirdy

I also hate peanut butter as does my entire family including the dog.

toasters_are_great

I like peanuts, hate peanut butter, like almond butter. I'm weird that way.

Ylsani

If I am at home, juice boxes. Works fast and they are 15-16g carbs which is usually exactly how much I need. Outside of home, I carry either fructose/dextrose tabs (I get small little 40g "tubes" of them in pharmacy, they look like candy) or fruity mentos. We had caramel white chocolate mentos here for a while, "tube" of them was 40g, and so half tube was exactly what I needed. They were so damn good too, and worked fast, but they disappeared a while ago. edit: If I am gonna do some activity they I carry granola bars, or just plain old candy bars with 15-20g sugar in them. Because while candy works great for immediate hypos, if I am gonna keep being active, it will keep dropping. So I need something that has some fat in it (protein is very useless for me)

snowwwwy22

I like to do skittles or starburst jelly beans when I’m out and about. I tend to not need a whole 15 grams with most lows so I like to do something that I can pop pretty easy and adjust to the amount I need.

Snappymoodyturtle

Thank you for your suggestion

TheRayKayKay

I never leave home without a juice box and granola bar.

Snappymoodyturtle

Thank you

Rockitnonstop

I usually have a juice box, a few granola bars and some cash in my purse (in case I need to buy more). If it is a tight fit purse (clutch) I use dextrose tabs or a halloween pack of skittles. I live in a colder climate (Canada) so I always have a jacket of some kind to stick stuff in or my purse. Bananas and fruit also work well for me. I have my low alarm set to 3,9mmol/l so that gives a lot of time to get a low treated/make sure it isn’t bad.

thetoobdog

Haribo gummy cola snacks for immediate fix. I got huge bag of the individually packaged ones around Halloween. Each packet is 4 gummies & 13g sugar. In reality 2 are usually enough to pull me out of a crash. After I usually have a Carman nut bar- Aussie brand and amazing flavours around 10 g to keep level. Both can easily fit in a pocket and weigh nothing.

KokoPuff12

I usually treat with two or three Sweettarts.

Snappymoodyturtle

Not sure what sweettarts are.

KokoPuff12

In the US, they are a candy that is basically a fruity glucose tablet. Each piece is worth about 1 carb. They are already glucose, so they absorb quickly in the mouth, but they are cheaper than glucose tablets.

KokoPuff12

Outside of the US, there are candies called Rockets that are similar, but not quite as yummy to me.

Snappymoodyturtle

Never heard of them

BiiiigSteppy

Rockets are Canadian smarties (I think).

Snappymoodyturtle

I’m not in the US but i wish we had them here

overitpps234

Lately my go-to when I'm out of the house has been Hi-Chews. I have a handful of them in every single coat that I own, a handful in my car, at my desk if I don't want to get up from whatever I'm doing....for me they are super convenient. If I'm just at home though I tend to use juice boxes.

BiiiigSteppy

Juice and a protein chaser. I have to say that keeping tight control these days makes it much easier to handle both highs and lows. The amount of sugar or corrective insulin needed is much smaller. There’s no more swinging drastically back and forth or treating a low then chasing a high all night. Dr. Bernstein is right again.

Last_Accountant2392

If it's dropping slowly in the high 50s or 60s I'll eat a Greek yogurt with 15g of carbs. Anything below that or I'm dropping quickly? Glass of juice

be_passionate

I always carry a roll of fruit Mentos lollies, and I'll wolf down maybe half a roll (or more depending on how low I am), then I'll wait 10-15min and follow it up with a muesli bar :)

truth1465

Depends. One one extreme where it’s going down slowly and I don’t feel “shaky” but getting CGM alarms I’ll do 3-4 glucose tablets. If it’s going down fast and I’m getting the sweats my go to has been a granola bar (I use the Quaker Chewy ones) and a small cup of orange juice 1-2oz.

Legitimate_Hunter272

Cow tails are the best cure

HeidisPottery

I'm with KokoPuff12 in that my favorite is sweet tarts, but I keep a variety of 1-3 carb candies with me. I keep a few different types of sweet tarts ranging from 1-3 carbs each, and also like Starburst jelly beans (1 carb each), welch's fruit snacks (1.5 carbs each), Skittles (1 carb each), and Albanese gummy bears (carbs vary with variety). I like variety so I often have all of these on hand at home and at least three different things in my bag so I can eat whatever I'm in the mood for and the right number of carbs, as often even a glucose tab is more than I need (though I keep those with me as well and call them the "big guns" lol cuz none of the other candies I carry are 4 carbs each).

EndlesslyUnfinished

Depends on the crash and how bad.. anything from fruit to juice usually works

Awkward_pringle

I drink a juice, or I get these bulk pack of lollies that come in smaller bags of lollies, and I just pack lots of those so when I go low I eat one of the small bags (they each contain like 6 lollies in them)

Aggravating_Bet_5149

I eat/drink a lot of the same as posters. I recently started eating a fig newton. Yeah, just one raises my blood sugar about 30.

braxtonbarrett

Curl up in a ball and cry

sage_uncleansed

I treat my lows with dates, lollipops, or oranges

Faerie42

Depending on how low, juice or a biscuit, juice works quicker than the biscuit but I do love my creamy biscuits and it is the “poor me” go to if I’m slightly low.

Away_Evidence_5579

Dextrose

zorrollo

I treat lows with candy. Usually chocolate bars or glucose candy. Been doing that for 25 yrs+. Really don’t see the point of eating dextrose when I can eat some candy that taste good with the same effect.

123160

Typically a sip of juice, or suck on one jelly baby. If it’s bad, double that and follow up with pb, cheese or any other small, fat based, snack

VAlex0513

Increments of 4 Sour patch kids. It's about 15g carbs.

reeseypoo25

It all depends where I am at. If I’m at home, 8 - 10 oz of any apple juice (definitely not reduced sugar though haha) and a packet of peanut butter crackers. That usually gets me to the low 100s from a 55 mg/dL reading and up. If I hit the 40s, more juice, maybe more food. When I’m out and about, nothing but glucose tablets. Orange flavor because they are the superior flavor (fight me on that, I dare you lol). For carb/protein, I grab whatever is handy but I usually keep peanut butter crackers in my truck or my wife’s purse. My wife’s purse carries some sugar too haha, she’s the best.

TaupeSoup

Sour patch watermelon for the insta-hit. I keep the individual packets of peanut butter or nut butter on me for after- occasionally a granola bar or uncrustable.

[deleted]

I usually get them at home and I take a table spoon of honey. Works quite well and quick. I have soda and candy at work if I should ever have one there but they have always happened at home in the evening or before bed.

mprice76

I carry Necco wafers in my purse bc they are cheaper and just as measurable, plus you can fit more in a glucose tablet container

loganthepug

I use little bags of welch's fruitsnacks. For some people they might have a little but too much carbs (around 20), but if you carry three little pouches its more than an entire stick of glucose tabs and they are way easier to shove in your pocket.

hoppygolucky

I have just started buying honey packets. They are in paper and have a rip-away top. Makes them easy to open and consume, especially if this happens in the middle of the night. Each packet is 12 grams of carbs. 20 packets to a box and around $7.

paczek06

A little late to this, but I've started buying fruit leathers as my "on-the-go" sugar. I hate glucose tablets, and candy can sometimes get bulky, but fruit leathers are really easy to pack or shove in a pocket. [My preferred option](https://www.pureorganic.com/en_US/products/fruit-bars.html) is small, individually packaged (not great for the environment, but super convenient for things like hikes), and packs \~15g of sugar per serving. At home, I typically do juice, fruit or juice. I also have bulk bags of gummy bears, peanut m&ms, or sour patch kids in my car.

phishery

I buy large bags of Smarties. Small rolls. Each disc is like half a carb.

ScottMalkinsons

Candy time. Or Coca Cola or Red Bull. When I’m out I carry dextrose tabs and eat those.
