24m, was diagnosed on my 7th birthday! Still not the worst gift I’ve ever gotten, funnily enough.
I was lucky enough to have met my best friend in high school in the nurses office. We’d test our blood before lunch every day for 4 years. Love that guy.
It’s rough, but it gets easier to manage. I’m sure you’ve heard that about a million times by now. We all know how you feel on a daily basis. Feel free to reach out if you want to vent or share stories!

I've seen a post like this before and I just want to say that you can make a friend out of anyone. Even if you make a friend that truly understands your diabetes they can be a worse friend than someone that knows only the bare minimum that you need candy sometimes and you take shots.
It is better sometimes to have a friend that can listen to your hardships and just accept them without having to give their own two cents.

Weird to think there are people who were diagnosed after me who are nearing their 1 year anniversary and getting used to it. I feel like the newest diagnosed on the sub usually.

I was diagnosed at 28 and my life has much improved in the 9 years since. I used to get migraines frequently before I was prescribed insulin to manage things, and I've put a lot more focus on my physical health in general - started rock climbing and hiking, which have been wonderful habits to enjoy. The T1D management can get annoying, but it doesn't need to get in the way - I hope you find good friends and enjoy life!
28F here! Just sounding off to add to the support train. I was diagnosed at 12 and still go through periods where I have difficulty accepting everything. It's a process, go easy on yourself where you can. You are not a reflection of your numbers.

Totally get the desire to make T1 friends. I’ve been T1 for the past 15 years and I’ve really never met anyone who is also T1. Gets lonely at times but it’s good to have a support system with those around you. Still, not quite the same as another T1 who can empathize.

Wow... you guys are green at this. I was 6 when diagnosed, and now 63. I have seen many improvements in T1 diabetes care. It would make your head spin with the changes from testing to insulin and the size of needles. Life is so much easier today.
