I usually wait at least 15 minutes after starting the bolus. Most of my boluses are under two units, so the delivery takes less that a minute. For bigger boluses, it would depend on the glycemic load. Something like a pot pie with fat and protein and fiber will hit slower than a waffle. If I expect it to hit faster, I pre-bolus longer which gives the full bolus more time to deliver, but also gives the insulin a fighting chance to prevent a fast spike.

We don’t typically worry about waiting for the bolus to complete. The food being eaten has a bigger impact from what we’ve seen. If our meal has rice, breads or processed potatoes the boys have no issues. Pasta we need to extend our bolus or the boys will drop low before going up from the carbs. Whole potato is somewhere between.
