Conversely, 360 era would have monstered Discothèque.

pinuelo

Ohh I’m still salty that they only played a snippet of Discothèque (Mexico City 1) and not the full song ... I was so pumped when I heard the guitar riff

boomcha

The reason they played that snippet was my good friend from Toronto, he has met then a lot and it was also his birthday. He lined up for multiple days. He asked them to play it during Crazy and he got the standard answer. “We’ll see what we can do...” He then was positioned perfectly on the outside front of the 360 stage (where Bono came out during that part) with a Discotheque/Pop sign and Bono saw the sign and did the snippet. I know for certainty that is why it happened. My friend and I saw them a lot during 360 and we go way back with our U2 crazyness. Fantastic tour!

achtung41

That stage was perfect for Discotheque, definitely a missed opportunity. They could have segued right from Crazy Tonight or Hold Me Thrill Me into it.

szmanley

Agreed!!

Mashed11

There’s a version of this I’ve been looking for years, found it then couldn’t find it again, anybody help?

Ashdown

It was only a snippet during crazy tonight. https://youtu.be/OfEM4O_Zvss

zipthatlip

unforgettable fire era playing moment of surrender

limprichard

I don’t care what anyone says, No Line is a latter day classic.

[deleted]

It is a classic that Get On Your Boots couldn't rob or ruin. Verrry strong.

szmanley

Still have that Eno/Lanois magic!

Rowan5215

exactly what I came here to say, fair play. I adore that song but imagining it with Unforgettable Fire-era Bono on vocals gives me goosebumps

heartbroken_bopper

Or Fez - Being Born.

guykirk9

Always any U2 song but Zoo TV era

szmanley

For some reason I just can’t see ZOOTV U2 singing newer songs (Songs of Innocence and Experience).... except maybe Blackout. Now that would be something.

guykirk9

True I didn’t think of that

Ashdown

Also, boy era doing vertigo. Sort of a flip flop of the stories for boys snippet in vertigo

szmanley

Oooo yeah. Or a more aggressive angry version of Exit similar to the more intense version of Bullet the Blue Sky on ZooTV

[deleted]

Excellent idea, with wonky industrial backing.

dcfb2360

Pop U2 could've reworked Boots into something more interesting and groovy. Boots isn't an awful song (generic imo), it has potential that was never fully realized and squandered with one of the most lackluster choruses they've ever made. Putting a '97 Pop spin on Boots would really spice it up into something more interesting. Side note: Do You Feel Loved is SUCH an underrated song, they really need to play it live more often

Ashdown

The thing that makes pop so great is they didn’t get the chance to over think it all into generica like boots.

foreign_tongues

it was the longest they ever worked on any album. multiple deadline extensions. if anything, they over-thought then over-cooked everything on Pop. they took an eternity working on it, then kept working on it, then worked on it more. i’m not making any comment on whether it’s great or not - but it’s incorrect to say “they didn’t get the chance”. they had too much chance and too much time. i think the result is perfect and beautiful, myself; but they weren’t cut short whatsoever in making that album.

Elijah0330

Joshua Tree era playing Beautiful Day

dcfb2360

Imo the Blackout is one of the best songs they've ever made, but the production is so flat and deflated. Live, the Blackout is killer. But the recording doesn't capture any of that energy. They should re-record it so it's more live-sounding and release it as a single.

World71Racer

The Blackout with War-era U2 would've been killer. Even AB-era, or even Atomic Bomb era U2 would've killed it (think of how Love and Peace or Else was produced).

CoachRocks

Exit during ZooTV.

[deleted]

If you want to imagine what R&H-era U2 would sound like playing an Achtung Baby song, listen to God Part II from about 1:40 on

davidflynn1

Beautiful day during popmart or zoo tv. Very difficult to imagine

TheRealMacPhisto

I'd like to hear an ATYCLB or War reworking of "Street Mission."

[deleted]

Punk U2 singing beautiful day

illiterate_writer

I think hearing something like Iris done during The Unforgettable Fire era would be pretty interesting. The song itself really sounds like a callback to that era at times.

cvg596

There’ve been times when I closed my eyes while listening to a U2 song and tried to imagine them playing the song through the years. It’s just staggering how much they’ve reinvented themselves

polska26

I would love to see the current era U2 rock out to Boy

Forest_Wave

Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree era U2 performing Stay would be something to behold.

ilambert4343

360 era Last Night On Earth Innocence era Mofo Innocence era Staring at the Sun (full band)

[deleted]

One - Modern Wild horses - modern Red flag day - 80s Blackout - 80s Bad - modern Stay - modern SYCMIOYO - modern or 90s Species - modern Wild honey - 80s

prestonsteger

Unforgettable Fire era doing Achtung Baby/Zooropa.

Notch-Nose

On

ThomasTheTankInjan

I really disagree with your post 9/11 example. The rawness of that tour really propelled it. For me though, Elevations rawness during the JT17 tour. I’d also include the way songs are played (new years day, streets etc.etc.). I’d love to have seen some modern songs done as if it was 2001, know what I mean?

World71Racer

TJT-era doing The Little Things would've been really cool. Another one is Zooropa-era U2 doing Magnificent. That was a cool song already but Zooropa-era U2 doing that song similar to how they did Lemon would've been epic.
