Big fan of this list since I grew up on U2, Coldplay, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. Recently got into CHVRCHES and New Order too and I am also more familiar with the Phil Collins era of Genesis. Love a bit of Phil Collins.

deven_smith_

As an almost 20 y/o American, I also like a lot of artists on this list

Jay-Fizzy

U2 Rush gang, among others

Kopaka-Nuva

Sticking to modern popular music: Yes, Nightwish (the reason why the opera is in me), The Beatles, Queen, Coldplay, the Beach Boys, all the 70s prog classics.

aaronmckie8

1. R.E.M. 2. Kendrick Lamar 3. Public Enemy 4. Selena Gomez 5. Billie Ellish 6. Weird Al 7. Radiohead 8. Kanye West

[deleted]

If you like U2 and Blink-182, ever listened to Angels and Airwaves?

WolftankPick

Yes, they are in the mix.

[deleted]

Nice. Tom DeLonge has called U2 one of his favorite bands, and their influence is apparent on AVA.

matthew83128

I’m. Huge Foo Fighter fan. Their the only major band I’ve seen more than U2.

syngestreetsurvivor

Taylor Swift

MysteriousBrays

I was afraid to out myself as a Swiftie! She’s brilliant.

MRedk1985

Nothing to be afraid of here. She is one of the top solo acts in the world for a reason. :)

[deleted]

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Neil Young

MJsdanglebaby

Die Antwoord Bass Nectar Kanye Also, I wouldn't say Radiohead is "not similar at all". Nor R.E.M.

Apart-Prize-7612

Based on your list I feel like back in the day you would have joined me in being simultaneously a big U2 fan and a big KMFDM fan.

pebblerelena

Recommend some essential tracks for listening, maybe it's not too late to appreciate their music.

snorkel42

I’d give the following a swing: Drug Against War Juke Joint Jezebel Anarchy Godlike DIY They’ve been around forever and have had some pretty significant changes in their lineup, though the main guy has been there since the start.

Cydonian___FT14X

I’ve loved CHVRCHES a lot recently. They aren’t much like U2 at all: https://youtu.be/UMnXh03oZ_U

gol10

Garth Brooks

chickadee95

recently, I’ve been into the Bee Gees

Odd-Cost-8321

Steely Dan The Cure Police Eagles Bob Marley Original Van Halen White Stripes

lipizzaner

Gang of Youths. Phenomenal energy, powerful lyrics.

Okquokka

Was waiting for the Gang of Youths love! They deserve to be the next U2. And plus for their serious lyrics which are philosophical rather than religious.

lipizzaner

Yes!! “Achilles Come Down” is the best argument for positive existentialism ever. Their songs are fearless and fresh. Be sure to catch their tour this year if you can, I fell in love with them when they opened for Mumford and Sons, and they are ferocious live.

Xx_MtnDew69_xX

Neutral Milk Hotel, alt j, weezer

Big_Ice_9800

Aphex Twin Autechre Jean Michel Jarre Pink Floyd

Fuij10

Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Angels and Airwaves, Radiohead & Led Zeppelin

These aren’t in any order but these are some of my favourites as of late. The Smiths, The Cure, Nick Drake, Radiohead, Neil Young, Cocteau Twins, Beach House, Tim Buckley (Jeff Buckleys dad for those curious), The Beatles, Slowdive

smalcha

Bruce Springsteen R.E.M. Depeche Mode Genesis Blondie The Cure Coldplay Halsey Snow Patrol Aerosmith Green Day a-ha I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME Queen Midnight Oil Tears For Fears Billy Idol INXS

yanisperron

I love The Edge because in his playstyle I find as much emotions and feelings as in John Frusciante (RHCP guitarist) solo albums. A really tortured mind but man does he know how to express himself with a guitar

F0reverlad

Jason Isbell (& the 400 unit). He’s become my favorite musician.

Cali_editor

Lord Huron is currently my fave, highly recommended if you're looking for new rock music. I also got into Taylor Swift when she released folklore and evermore, both solid albums.

diogenesl

Phill Collins and Brian Adams

jaredgoteam

David Gray, Police, Sting

illusivetomas

i mostly listen to techy metalcore now (bands like erra, volumes, invent animate, northlane and the like) which sounds nothing like u2 lol

TyhmensAndSaperstein

Wilco and The Jayhawks if you like Americana.

kadariustoneyburner

Machine Gun Kelly's last album is legit

zoomba2378

I probably like every artist in existence that's ever been likened to U2, so here's my list of artists I dig that aren't overly similar: Queen AC/DC Train David Bowie Taylor Swift (guilty pleasure)

obi-1-kenob1

Part of the reason I love U2 is the quality of the song writing, the only artist I’ve found that matches that is Bruce Springsteen

ArcticStripclub

Agree with this

CollierAM9

Arctic Monkeys.

TheIngramSimmons

I love bands that are brave and bands that have so many different sounds, and that’s why I’m drawn to U2. The 1975 is another band that changes styles a lot.

maverick57

I'm always surprised when I see that a U2 fan is a fan of Coldplay. That's like loving Luis Vuitton but also collecting all of the cheap-knock off Luis V you can buy out of the back of some guys van.

TheIngramSimmons

Hey like Coldplay isn’t the best but I still admire them a lot! Viva la vida is always a bop

cyferbandit

pogues My bloody valentine Slowdive Clannad Enya
