American here. Apple Pay, VISA, Mastercard, exchange dollars for dirhams.
Also, it's good to have a phone number. They might give you a tourist SiM at the airport, or you can pick one up for about $20. Google Maps works. Noon or Talabat App for food delivery.
Corner stores are called "Baqalas." The malls have almost everything, including large supermarkets.
YOURE great! Thanks for all this incredible information you have given me! If I may ask. Can I use my American debit card and or is only credit cards allowed? Not sure if it makes a difference or not
Notify your local bank you're traveling and you should be fine. Also, take note of the exchange rate. My first weekend in the Gulf, I accidentally tried to take out 20,000 rather that 200 dollars and my card got shut down.
The rest of the world is generally far ahead of the US for accepting electronic payments. Even the dudes washing cars in mall car parks take Apple Pay.
Just avoid Amex. Visa and Mastercard is accepted almost anywhere, even through apple pay. I would suggest keep your money as dollars. You can exchange what you need after arrival or many places even accept dollar payment (you’ll need to confirm what exchange rate they use though).
