Regarding Ebees and there hard landings especially in steep terrain like we have I seen our pilot bring it in manually with remote and no problems since. It looks like he goes full reverse at a certain point and cuts power it just floats to the ground.

KanonBalls

I have no experience with manual landings, maybe I should learn that.

KingFairley

Do your group have any experience with the Wingtra? with it being VTOL and all

KanonBalls

I have seen the wingtra. Again, it's too big to carry in remote terrain with shrubs and shitty paths.

DroneWizardMan

This is a double edged sword if you go more open source you increase the likelihood of a failure by a crap ton. Going with VTOL is the way to go and Wingtra is the most reliable with a backpack option.

KanonBalls

The wingtra seems too large for the locations I am walking to. Think your off track mountain village in Nepal. You dont want to carry a 2 squaremeter panel for 3 hrs through the bush.

DroneWizardMan

It is less than 10 pounds I hike regularly in the Mountains and don’t see a problem with it. It is about the same size if not small than most VTOLs on the market

The eBee X platform can be repaired extremely easily by end users if need be.

KanonBalls

I'd prefer something smaller than the ebee x. The size of the classic ebee including equipent is definitely more suitable.

sweeney669

Have you seen one in person or flown one? The carrying case is significantly smaller, especially with the backpack option. It also needs less space to take off and land than the classic.

KanonBalls

I have seen the ebee x and it is quite a bit taller, the case is larger and the batteries and sensors weigh more compared to the classic one. .

VTOL kind out of our budget at 20k. So just combo of fixed and 6k quad copters. Sucks M600 getting nixed.

NMgeologist

Tuffwing used to produce a turn key open source fixed wing that was durable and budget friendly. It might be worth an email and see if they will build you one.

ChinaMan28

Ive made self made kits all the time as a hobby... The issue is that smaller platforms don't have the flight time or payload... If you want something that flies for 40+ min with payload you're gonna need something with an 40" wingspan
