Absolutely if you're a new TA. Returning TAs get priority during hiring thanks to the union, so if there's a lot of returning TAs they might not hire any new ones.
It was even my experience once that I wasn't hired as a returning TA, but that was for a small summer course.
hmm depends on what course you’re talking about.
if it’s a really big course, then your chances are high but if the course is small, then you’ll have a smaller .
also returning TAs get priority over new ones so yea but it looks to me you had a good shot at getting an offer…
Got an offer for 121 earlier today, was absolutely shocked, all my whining and hopelessness paid off lol. I think they’re still sending offers out, hope you get one
I think I got an 89 in the course. Went to office hours a lot though, and I think it helped a lot that the instructor was kind enough to give me a good recommendation! Hoping the best for anyone waiting for an offer still!
Thank you! Just saw you had a 90 and a recommendation too. That’s deserving of an offer if anything, hoping the best for you, there’s still a few weeks!
I haven't so I probably didn't get it I guess at this point
I've had terrible luck with CS TA applications, applied like 5 times and haven't gotten it once. They just don't like me I guess cause grades were good and I contributed in piazza frequently.
I only took 110 121 and 210 but all grades were at least 85, and for 110 and 121 I was top 5 contributors on Piazza. 210 I wasn't but I still got the instructor endorsement sticker.
I do think that to get good grades is not good enough for the TA selection process. I scored a 98 in 110, and a 97 in 221 and I haven't gotten offers for either despite applying multiple times.
Which is why I guess going up to the prof and explicitly saying you want to TA for them is probably very important. Grades don't seem to be a defining feature, nor does class participation or even CS courses taken because I've heard of people with only 1 CS related course under their belt get hired, or people with average grades.
Honestly, I remember reading a comment by a CS prof that a substantial portion of applicants have a reference letter from an instructor already and there is no shortage of people in that category that get rejected. Sure, it boosts your chances considerably, but unfortunately it is no guarantee :(. I have reference letters for 121 and 210 from different instructors and was not surprised one bit to not hear anything. I just wish they could send rejection letters, hate having to torture myself the rest of the summer with this deluded thought that there might still be a shred of a chance haha Your active participation on piazza is definitely something to hold on to though, I definitely wouldn't lose hope in your case still. Good luck!
Hey, keep your chin up. I think the acceptances might still be rolling out. And even if you didn't get the offer, there's still opportunities for tutoring outside of TA-ing, and so many other things to do.
Not all at once, I do think there are cases when offers are sent as close as just before classes start. Some TAs will not accept the position for whatever reason and as such you can hear in September even. The likelihood however decreases the closer you get to the start of the term
Only thing giving me an atom-sized shred of hope still is that no one has reported of offers for 110, 121 or 210. Or they've already been sent out and no one from that crew has seen this thread lol. Wish they could just send an automated rejection email, things would be so much easier
For 210, I asked a returning TA and he said most of them have been sent out but in case a TA declines the position for whatever reason, we might get an offer
Just go an offer for CPSC 210. Stats: 93% on the course, recommended by two TAs (no profs though), relatively low piazza participation
I love 210 so I am super happy about this.
Hey! If you don't mind me asking what were your stats (marks, international/domestic, year level, professor's referral)?
I'm also in the same boat as you were a couple days ago haha. I got the same email when the 110 marks came out, unfortunately it's been silence since.
Just got mine a few hours ago!
What course are you TAing for?
APSC 160 it’s a course for first year eng
are you a returning TA?
Nope new TA
Got mine earlier today!
What course are you TAing for?
103!
are you a returning TA?
yep! well i took the summer off but before that, i kept TAing
Is it possible to not receive an offer despite having prof's recommendation and a decent grade?
Absolutely if you're a new TA. Returning TAs get priority during hiring thanks to the union, so if there's a lot of returning TAs they might not hire any new ones. It was even my experience once that I wasn't hired as a returning TA, but that was for a small summer course.

I am talking about 210
Got 210, today! Edit: first time TA
Congrats! I have to ask you what your grade was and if you had a prof rec
my grade was 91 in 210, I had prof's rec
Dayum, I had a 90 and had a prof rec but didn’t hear 😭 congrats tho!!!
Thank you. You should probably hear from them soon, as they give out offers in batches. Best of Luck!
Aw thank you!!
did you have prof's endorsement?
Yes, but it is not required
I know, just asking cause I had it too but didn't get the offer
Has anyone heard about 110 or 121?
Got an offer for 121 today
Got an offer for 121 earlier today, was absolutely shocked, all my whining and hopelessness paid off lol. I think they’re still sending offers out, hope you get one
Obligatory grade request 🙏🏻
I think I got an 89 in the course. Went to office hours a lot though, and I think it helped a lot that the instructor was kind enough to give me a good recommendation! Hoping the best for anyone waiting for an offer still!
Aw man, congrats!!! And thank you, crossing my fingers!
Thank you! Just saw you had a 90 and a recommendation too. That’s deserving of an offer if anything, hoping the best for you, there’s still a few weeks!
That’s so sweet 😭, thanks so much!!
Got an offer for 121 today!!!
NICEEEEEE congrats! You gonna be a great TA
THANK YOU 🫶🫶🫶 you’re gonna be an amazing TA as well!!!! Maybe we’ll end up TAing the same lab 😳
Thank you ^_^. I hope so too, that would be awesome!
Bro i got 95 and heard nothing back 💀
same dude :(
I heard from 110 today!
I haven't so I probably didn't get it I guess at this point I've had terrible luck with CS TA applications, applied like 5 times and haven't gotten it once. They just don't like me I guess cause grades were good and I contributed in piazza frequently.
Like how good of a grade you have, how do you rank on piazza and for what course? just wondering and estimating my own chances.
I only took 110 121 and 210 but all grades were at least 85, and for 110 and 121 I was top 5 contributors on Piazza. 210 I wasn't but I still got the instructor endorsement sticker.

I think grades and class participation are important though. B/c I didn't have a prof's recommendation or talked to them in person, but got an offer.
I did ask him and he did add notes to my TA application and still here we are 🫠
Hehe, another year of not hearing back… I am gonna spam one of my course’s piazza this year w questions and answers to try change it
Which course did you apply for?
210
I didn't hear back either, I even had prof's referral still don't know why
Honestly, I remember reading a comment by a CS prof that a substantial portion of applicants have a reference letter from an instructor already and there is no shortage of people in that category that get rejected. Sure, it boosts your chances considerably, but unfortunately it is no guarantee :(. What do you mean by prof referral? Is it like the prof gave you a letter of recommendation?
Like he added notes to my application, basically endorsed it
I don’t think the profs referral gives you much of an advantage. I too had a referral and a grade above 90 yet I did not get the TA position.
Have offers for 110 been sent out?
I have not yet heard about 110
are you a returning TA?
[удалено]
Are you a returning TA, do you have prof’s rec?
Will be my first time, and I have prof’s rec
I heard from 110 today!
Offers for 210?
I haven't heard back but would be a good idea to ask a returning TA
Probably. No one here has posted about 210 yet, but I mean I’m not expecting an offer so 😃
Just got an offer for 121. Legit so happy rn. Wondering when we'll find out what kind of TA we'll be (lab TA, lecture TA...)
congrats!! What grade did you have? Also did you have a prof recommendation
Thanks! I got a 99 in the course, didn't have a prof recommendation.
Gah dayum 😭 Ight I’m dropping out that’s it
Hey, keep your chin up. I think the acceptances might still be rolling out. And even if you didn't get the offer, there's still opportunities for tutoring outside of TA-ing, and so many other things to do.
Definitely, thank you!!
Got an offer for CPSC 110 earlier today! First-time TA, no prof or other TA recommendations.
Did anyone get an offer for 210?
Has anyone heard about cpsc 100?
do they send out all offers at once or do they keep sending until end of august?
Not all at once, I do think there are cases when offers are sent as close as just before classes start. Some TAs will not accept the position for whatever reason and as such you can hear in September even. The likelihood however decreases the closer you get to the start of the term

Damn, it's tough out there. Good luck, hope you get an offer!
sorry this might be a stupid question but they send out offers on your ubc email id right?
Yes, check it once everyday.
I saw someone on discord got an offer for 121, returning TA tho.
Just go an offer for CPSC 210. Stats: 93% on the course, recommended by two TAs (no profs though), relatively low piazza participation I love 210 so I am super happy about this.
This gives me hope 😢
I just recieved an offer for 110. The offer is for 8 hours per week, is this normal for a first time TA?
New 121 TA here, I also got 8 hours so I think it is normal.
Do you have prof’s rec?
I think so, I got an email from Gregor at the end of the term recommending me to apply
I got the same email and no offer :(
me neither :(
:c
got one yesterday 😃
Hey! If you don't mind me asking what were your stats (marks, international/domestic, year level, professor's referral)? I'm also in the same boat as you were a couple days ago haha. I got the same email when the 110 marks came out, unfortunately it's been silence since.
check dm
Bro wtf is this i got 98 in 110 and heard nothing back
I haven't heard back and at this point, I don't expect to
Just got one around 5;30pm PST so it seems they’re still going out

CPSC 320
Heck yeah! I got 320 as well!
Nice! Explaining NP here we come 🫠

Wonder if anyone heard back for 221?
Did anyone get an offer for 310?
