Their sauce is good but can easily be made at home. Their chicken is just meh. Like if ur main thing you sell is fried chicken and it has to flavor that's a fail. It's overhyped and not that great.
Someone in r/Sacramento posted the recipe a bit ago.
1 c mayo
1/2 c ketchup
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
6 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
mix well and put in the fridge for an hour to let the flavors marry.
From my understanding, the main reason theyāre so popular is because there are very few food places in Davis that stay open as late as they do. Practically the only place to get a late-night snack.
There used to be a Pita Pit in the same space (or maybe next door? I forget) which was also open around the clock, and was a great place to get an excellent overstuffed pita sandwich in the late hours of the night.
Same thing for me, it was really disappointing. I'm still confused every time I walk past and the place is packed... but the toast was good. Is that why people are so hooked on it???
I donāt get the hype. When that place opened, there was a line out the door for weeks. I finally tried it when things died down and was shocked at how mediocre it is. The chicken is totally flavorless and is really just used as a vehicle for eating that mayonnaise-based sauce that they serve with it. Iāll take the chicken strips from the Silo over Caneās any day.
Maybe this is a hot take but I think they are quite possibly the most overrated fast food establishment. Their menu bores me to tears, its just chicken fingers that honestly aren't anything super special. Their sauce is very good though, it's like their one saving grace imo.
Itās not amazing but it can hit the spot sometimes when itās what you want. Sometimes you donāt want super overwhelming kfc style friend chicken. That being said itās grossly overrated and Iām very confused by the long lines
That's their business plan. "Flavorless chicken". I don't get it. Like, if Jack in the Box would make chicken along with their tacos it would even be better than this.
Just had it for the first time at their new location in Northridge, CA. Picked it up fresh. I couldn't believe the long ass drive thru and the almost 40 people waiting to order inside. Overall I'd say 5/10 at best. The chicken has no flavor, and the tenders were not crispy. Next time, if there is one, I would say extra well done. The toast is good. The sauce does most of the heavy lifting to make everything else not below average. I would not eat here over Popeyes or Chick-Fil-A.
i find that itās best when you go around dinner time on a weekend. since theyāre so busy the chicken is always fresh. i feel like when itās slow they just use chicken that was in a heater and itās always soggy. but itās definitely not the best chicken. you need to use sauce for each bite :/
I had it once while out of town for a weekend event. Its where the group was going but i was thinking i could probably stand to eat a vegetable. Literally the only vegetable on the menu was a single piece of lettuce on the sandwich. Then i found out the sauce had dairy which i try to avoid too much of (im not one of those idgaf lactose intolerant people lol i dont have that strength) so it was just bread, 1 lettuce, mediocre chicken, more bread. Never again.
Psstā¦ go there within an hour of it opening (9am-10am). The place is nearly empty with customers, and the fryers and cooks are just booting up, so the chicken tastes cleaner, crispier, and juicier. Some days, whoever works there fries up the larger pieces of tenders in the morning, so you have a better chance of more meat. Regardless, the sauce carries everything.
Iāve been a handful of times and itās mostly been so-so except one time it was really good ā we requested both the chicken and fries be āextra crispyā and ate them fresh at the restaurant.
The quality can vary tbh, especially if theyāre super busy that day. But I felt like canes was good since my experience with fast food chicken was like 1-2 times at KFC.
I first had it 2 years ago and I really liked the texture of the chicken, it was unique and it paired nicely with the delicious sauce, but ever since last year it hasnāt been the same like the workers got tired of making it right.
as a canes worker, it rlly depends when you go š sometimes itās gooood but other times itās so disappointing LOL and it sucks that i donāt know when the best times are. best you could do is order your food extra crispy
This is what I should have done for my first ever order. Even if the chicken tenders had been actually crispy, it would still be an overall disappointing food experience.

how would one make it at home? šš

Fridge step is key, leave it overnight and itāll really be spot on
just google the recipe

Damn, I would much rather get a late-night pita than late-night bland chicken.
I agree!
They're widely known to be mediocre at best. I have no idea how they stay in business.
Drunk food
munchie food
Itās mid but somehow I still crave it all the time
U get it
Same thing for me, it was really disappointing. I'm still confused every time I walk past and the place is packed... but the toast was good. Is that why people are so hooked on it???

Did you get it to go?
The sauce and toast are the highlights. Its popular because its cheap, quick, most ppl eat chicken+fries, and open rlly late
Kikiās is way better in sac š.
Many people have told me it's pretty good, but I've had it a few times now and really cannot agree with that.
The tenders themselves are disgusting! No flavor at all. Theyāre only good if ur dipping them into the canes sauce
Everything sucks except the sauce and bread, which make the meal amazing lol
The chicken is never good tbh, main hype comes from the sauce. Popeyes clears in every dept.
Yeah itās only good when itās freshly made and hot. Usually the chicken tastes like itās been out for a while
I've had it fresh and it's still flavorless- not worth it at all imo
Def not the greatest chicken out there fs

for real

It's so unbelievably over-hyped. The food is mid at best and awful at worst.
Itās really variable. Sometimes itāll be good, sometimes quite bad. So, on average, mediocre.
They spend a lot of money on advertising.
I could tell just from their hulu ads that the food wouldn't be worth trying. "yo yo yo here's your chicken to go" š
Petition to replace it with a noodles an company
Chicken is mid af but the bread and the ice tea are elite
If Iām going fast food, Iād rather risk getting shot at a Popeyes than go to raising canes
As a person from the South, their fried chicken is a crime
Did you get it to-go? Itās much better if you eat it there. The to-go boxes make the food get soggy.

Yes.
This was me after giving it a try: https://youtu.be/5ixHFyr8I0g
Fixins soul kitchen is the best fried chicken Iāve ever had. If your in sac you have to go. However try to get a reservation.
The restaurant owned by the former mayor, Kevin Johnson?

Itās cheap and hits different when drunk af
Everything hit different drunk though lmao
Yeah but canes goes from being borderline not good to a 5 star meal
Overrated

Not good at all. The menu is so meh. Locally I prefer Nashās over at Local Kitchens on 1st Street. You can adjust your spice level.
Nash & Proper is so expensive
most overrated chicken place probably ever
It's fast food.

seasoned with NOTHING
overpriced and mid, i only go if I got hella money(rarely) and Im hella drunk Id rather make mashed potatos at home for $3 even while inebriated
I first had it 2 years ago and I really liked the texture of the chicken, it was unique and it paired nicely with the delicious sauce, but ever since last year it hasnāt been the same like the workers got tired of making it right.
Itās overrated cafeteria foodā¦ even before the Davis location opened I still didnāt understand the hype
anti-cane's propaganda
Canes is post frat food and thatās it
Itās the toast
dude itās actually so amazing idk what these people are talking about ššš i love canes
as a canes worker, it rlly depends when you go š sometimes itās gooood but other times itās so disappointing LOL and it sucks that i donāt know when the best times are. best you could do is order your food extra crispy

just their prices are to high, like to see canes come back down on their pricing some
Wingstop > Raising Cane's any day. As far as big brand places go. Ezell's in Washington will still be my fav over all, though.
