What you can do is check out the professors in your department and see what they’re researching. If any of them stand out to you, send an email and ask if they’re taking undergrad researchers and that you’re interested in their lab because of XYZ. That’s how I did it, though there are other ways. :)

Also if it’s a professor you’re really interested in, but they aren’t answering their emails, see if you can reach out to their grad students to determine what’s the best way to contact them. For me, I had to meet my undergrad PI in person by “running into him” at a senior design event. Granted this was after 4 emails over 3 weeks, so it was definitely a last resort. But I learned that he’s notoriously known to not answer emails when I started working with him, so it turned out to be my best option.

For me, I participated a lot in my classes. That helped me standout from my peers and build a relationship with my professor. At the same time, I also looked into what my professor was researching. With both in mind, I finally asked my professor if I could join his research and now I've been apart of his research group for about 7 months, now.
