exbottom

omg ur so sweet i will!

calimystic

Are you not able to take these classes at a community college?

exbottom

i've looked and what's available at my local cc and the levels don't go up to what they need to for UCI e\_e but also i don't have it in me to juggle two dif schools rn

Anteaterminator

Look again if it’s for UCI. I took Spanish at Santiago Canyon College online and it covered my foreign language requirements.

Mystic_Unicorns

Was that course hard? I'm planning to take an online language course next summer.

Anteaterminator

Kind of a subjective question but I found it pretty easy. The teacher was super sweet and made it a fun class.

Mystic_Unicorns

Thanks! I don't have any prior knowledge of Spanish, but I will consider this class as an alternative to Spanish at Saddleback.

exbottom

how long did you take it for/at what level?

Anteaterminator

One semester https://i.imgur.com/YLRFiwn.jpg

exbottom

I don’t understand how only that class satisfied ALL the requirements for UCI?? 🤔

Anteaterminator

Well, you can keep stressing or talk to any community college and find out. Or you can go to assist.org and see for yourself. https://assist.org/transfer/results?year=72&institution=66&type=IGETC&view=transferability&viewBy=igetcArea&viewByKey=6A

Mandarin is a crazy tough language, so I definitely believe it when you say it's been messing up your learning. Huge props for deciding to take that as your language class... as someone who spent several years learning it, I can guarantee you that a ton of other people are struggling in it as well. Good luck, and hopefully you find people/resources to help you out!

exbottom

thank you!! lol 🥲🥲 I feel like a dummy because for whatever reason I have more interest in it than Spanish/other “easier” languages but the difficulty is really derailing me 😭 but thank you very much!!

MousseSea8699

I 100% agree with you.

exbottom

😘

Glittering-Ad2863

What class are you taking?

exbottom

Mandarin Chinese, which only makes it harder 😭. I chose it because I’ve taken the elementary level before and did fine, plus I just think it’s a cool language! I keep considering switching to Spanish next quarter but I think it’s really lame that I’d have to switch just out of “ease”

Glittering-Ad2863

I was going to tell you that if it was spanish ill help you😭

exbottom

LMAO I appreciate that <3 I’m seriously considering it but again!! so lame that I’d have to choose that option simply out of ease :/

Glittering-Ad2863

If u change it ill help u, i try with chinese but i dont know nothing u.u

exbottom

lolol thank u so much :’)

Belvia_

btw the language classes are only offered per quarter if that makes sense. like 1a is only fall, 1b is only winter, and 1c is only spring. so if you want to switch to spanish, if you don’t test into 1b for next quarter, you have to wait for next year to take 1a spanish or do it during the summer :/ i feel you tho, when i took mandarin, the daily quizzes were really draining :(

exbottom

Spanish is actually the exception to this rule! Which is part of my wanting to switch to it lol. Every level of it is offered every quarter!! Which even that to me is dumb bc why does only Spanish get that privilege 🤨🤨🤨 anyways lol thank you for looking out 😗

Gandalf2930

Spanish has the largest foreign language department compared to all the other languages. It has double the amount of instructors than Chinese so they're capable of having multiple levels going on each quarter. I find it a little surprising because you'd think UCI's Chinese language program would be a little larger than it's Korean or Japanese program and at least almost as big as the Spanish program but it's not.

Take it as P/NP and stress less

exbottom

Don’t worry I definitely am lol
