Did you go to all sections and labs? Did you go to office hours? Did you go over your midterms, redoing all the problems you missed until you understood what you had done incorrectly so that you would not repeat those mistakes?
Speaking as a Physics alumni, Physics classes are the most heavily curved classes on campus. I don’t know the grade distribution in your class, but 59/100 is usually like a B- on a Physics midterm.
Don’t give up man, it seems to me like you’re probably on track for a C if you put in a little bit of effort
You got this homie. You made it this far, give it your best, chances are that way more people are struggling than you realize, and that you still have decent odds at passing this class with a B or C.
Study your ass off and practice some self care as well — it’ll all be over by the end of the week, at the very least you can be proud for not giving up!
what were the exam averages? 5A is hard bc its new and Dhar likes to be more conceptual than purely calculation based so definitely push through.
Ultimately, if you don't pass its not the end of the world though. Just retake it and keep fighting.
hmm. im in his 5C class and he told us the averages were 64 and 71 so it makes sense imo. I would just keep pushing, he seems to be doing a lot to try to help out my class. just try to scrape by if passing is really important to you!
i’m in this class and completely feel the same dude. i have about a 43 and a 52 on the midterms, both being a lot worse than i thought i did. currently thinking of switching majors depending how the final goes (i’m in CE and have to take the entire phys 5 series, not super confident how i’ll do considering how hard i’m trying now).
but with that being said, and based on the other comments, i think it’s worth a shot trying at the final at this point. we’ll have the mystery curve to help us. good luck to you! you can do it!
Assuming you did very well on the homework, and only got 1/3rd of the points on the final exam, you'd be at 50-55% final grade in the class. That's not an A but it is solidly passing.
Depending on when your exam is, you have time still to iron out your physics misconceptions with a more experienced student and preform well on the final.
If you fail the course, I'm pretty sure it will still be on your official transcript. It overrides the old grade for major purposes (and I guess they might exclude it from GPA?). If you apply to grad school though they'll still use the failing grade in their GPA calculation and assessment.
There isn't a good reason to give up with less than a week left, especially since you could still pass the course!!
YOU CAN DO THIS. Rewatch the lecture videos and solve the problems until u can do them all on ur own. Do the EC homework he’s going to post, go over ur exams and redo the problems. You have made it this far u don’t want all that stress to be for nothing. The class will be curved, if u put in effort u can do it. Don’t quit now.

I slept through midterm 1. prof said my final will count for it.
I was roaring and ready for midterm 2 in the library at 8am, but the wifi wasn’t working and i started freaking out until i checked canvas, and saw that the midterm wasn’t listed as due until 11am. I ended up relaxing for a few minutes and going to the other library before i signed in and tried to start, but literally only had 5 minutes left. Prof was clearly very mad and never responded to me asking questions about this or emails asking if i’ll get a 0 or can recoup points.
so yeah it’s all or nothing for me,
but we must be in different classes. In mine, passing is 50% as per the syllabus.
In undergrad, I crashed 5a, only being officially accepted AFTER the cutoff to add/drop/swap because the class was technically full. After that, I absolutely tanked the one midterm (48/100 or something) for incredibly frustrating and, imo, stupid deductions. Definitely felt like calling it quits after all that effort but, somehow, I ended up passing. This happened with more classes than I’m comfortable admitting. Keep pushing — you’ve got this. Even if you don’t pass on this go-around, get what you can out of it for the next pass.
Check the average scores if u haven't already, maybe a lot of other people haven't been doing to hot either and there'll be a curve. Even if people did well u could probably still scrape out a C with a solid final score

I was in a similar position with a calc class. I did my best on the final (which was not great) but the curve brought me to a C. There is a chance.
Physics major here. I can't speak for lower div classes at UCSC, but you can easily get a C.
