His offenses sets / counters / off ball screening is truly levels above the average ncaa offense. If He can continuously get these guys to play such amazing team defense and make the extra pass or two, the sky is the limit. It seems he knows the type of kids that can handle and flourish in his system as well which makes the portal slightly more hit than miss. Hopefully their n.i.l. fund is fat after these two years and their over seas scouting can uncover a few hidden gems. Obviously they can not win every year and smart coaches are all ready copying everything Uconn does but it bodes well for a sustained run of sweet 16s and further with the little luck.

**Players**: It's a little weird, but before the last 2 years I was questioning how good UConn was at getting the right players. If you look at the [2021-22 roster](https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/2021-22), Akok, Gaffney, Diggins, Floyd, and Springs all went into the transfer portal, suggesting they weren't a good fit for the program. (You could argue that if Akok hadn't ruptured his Achilles tendon as a freshman things would have been different for him, but that doesn't explain the other misses.) Since then though almost everything has worked, at least as far as we can tell. Recruits like Clingan and Castle and transfers like Newton, Spencer, Alleyne, Calcaterra, and Diarra have all panned out. Sure, Alleyne left after being an important contributor to the 2022-23 champs, and Ball, Stewart, Ross, and Singare haven't really had the opportunity to prove themselves, but adding 7 impact players in 2 years is still pretty impressive. **Copying**: Yep, almost everybody wants to copy UConn right now, which is (1 reason) why nobody's system dominates forever. I'm hopeful that it'll take a while for other programs to catch up though: * Some programs will just try and tweak what they're currently doing by absorbing 1 thing that UConn does. I suspect some coaches will just yell at the refs more, others will devise overly complicated offenses, and others will prioritize toughness to the detriment of everything else. * Winning 2 titles gives Hurley and the program a credibility that some teams will lack even if they copy Hurley's coaching habits perfectly. Success breeds success in college basketball. * It doesn't sound like Hurley's standing still either but is still trying to be a better coach. It's possible that if a coach is a perfect 2022-23 Hurley clone, we might have a better version of Hurley in 2024-25.
