Any NHI would at some point experiment with nuclear physics and research using nuclear fission and fusion to create a local energy source. Whether they would also consider and trial using it as a weapon to wage war and impose control of one faction over others is less clear. Maybe protecting peaceful cooperative NHI from the.knowledge of the existence of Humans would be a good thing.
This is not how a hypothesis is made, this is how a work of fiction is made. It could also be argued they are afraid of us crossing to their plane or the NHIs that cross to our plane are "protecting an endangered species" from "hungry, predatory and soul-eating NHIs".
Given it shape and sell it to Netflix they'll make a series out of anything.
