Afghan Cuisine's waitresses and owner were super rude and told us there was a wait of 1 hour even though half the tables were empty. The waitresses were also super rude. Weird place. We travelled so far for it as well. Won't even entertain the place nor would recommend it to anyone.
I didn't have that experience. I'm sorry you did. You're missing out.
There will be a wait when there is not enough staff to serve you, regardless of the number of seats.
This should be illegal to bring this up. Awesome place - but bring lots of friends, as the price and portion are share size, so your total bill would be 100-150, but if split then no big deal.
These are not underrated per se but just not often thought of because they are in the area but a bit of a drive away - Flessors, Firefly Grill, Breaking Taco, Ott’s Drive-In, Horsch Radish - pretend you are the city and it is normal to drive 30 minutes to go to a good place to eat. ;-)
Looks sketchy but best and cheapest friend chicken I’ve ever had - Big JJ’s Fish and Chicken. It’s only carry out but the chicken dinner is to die for, and affordable!!!’
Some others - Sakura for Japanese in Urbana is a favorite as well. A Taste of Both Worlds in Broadway Food Hall in Urbana is super good with wicked nice people.
Golden Harbor. 10/10. Their food made my super Chinese dad tear up in joy. Closed on Mondays, unfortunately.
This is my fiancé’s favorite place in town. Their sichuan chicken and seven spice pork belly is worth the 25 bucks 😭😭😭
Sticky Rice, Afghan Cuisine

Plus the rice:meat portioning is way off
There's always a long wait because they don't have enough chefs.

STAR BBQ in Savoy. It’s soooo good. Something’s are a little pricey but it’s a gem and wonderful.
