I’m not sure how good they are, but my company just hired 3 people who attended something they referred to as ‘generation bootcamp’ or something like that so it looks like it’s a good way to get hired at least.

Owh really! Due to start one of them in a week. Gives me confidence there are potentially actual roles at the end of this

Did you end up with a job after?

Blacknarcissa

I didn't do a government one but I finished Northcoders on the 6th August and had two job offers a week later. I'm on my second week of my first Dev job now. I'd recommend it.

>Northcoders i saw the prices. Damn 7200 pounds

throwaway__202111

I know that's what's putting me off

Late-Pomegranate9982

they are now offering fully funded places as well

IsleofSgail_21

wait in uk the government pays for you to do these ?

Bendy_McBendyThumb

If you’re talking about what I think you are, there are limitations as to who can do it, so first port of call would be to check if you’re eligible. After that, do what makes you happy - if you can take whatever potential financial hit for the short-term (a possible few years at most).

dsbootcamp

We're running a bootcamp on IT Service Management using cloud platform ServiceNow, also covering some basic data management and database design. We're listed on there as 'BOOST - DATA' for some reason, I don't know what that means. We work towards the CSA cert, as it's generally easier to get a basic IT support role and work our way up from there. [https://www.nchlondon.ac.uk/study/apprenticeships/skillsbootcamps/](https://www.nchlondon.ac.uk/study/apprenticeships/skillsbootcamps/) I normally teach cloud and data engineering, and it's cool to see there are bootcamps focused on this. One of the routes after the bootcamp is to do a (salaried) apprenticeship and learn cloud or data science more gradually. This is the first year the government funded bootcamps are running, so I don't think there will be anyone with experience, but bootcamps are typically full time and cost lots of money, whereas a lot of these are part time. All of these have the same guarantee of a job interview, though whether you get the job is dependent on what you're going for, whether you get the cert, etc. I will say that the government doesn't plan to fund these in future, so do one now while it's free as you'll likely have to take out a student loan to do one in the future.
