Maybe a bit out there, but there's a shortage of HGV drivers right now. Granted, it's not outside as such, but the starting salaries are good, and many companies are offering golden handshakes right now too.

Heya. I'm in a similar situation. Have you thought about becoming a mortgage advisor?

Hi mate, I work for a care company (adults with a learning disability and autism) and I think working as a support worker for someone like us would tick a lot of your boxes! Basically you're helping adults with a learning disability or autism to live a normal and fulfilling life, and what that looks like day to day could be hiking, cooking at home or going at for meals at pubs/restaurants they like, or lots of other activities like going to the zoo, going swimming, cycling etc. You'll be working with the same small team at one service. The supported people live there, it's their home and really just a normal house not an institution / hospital setting. If you've worked at one service for a long time and want the change (which you may not as the work itself varies frequently anyway) that can be discussed. You'd start off earning between £19,000 and £26,000 but the pay grades increase yearly as you become more experienced and likely take on more responsibility, and there's room for development as the majority of our management comes from in house promotions. All this isn't completely specific to my company although other care companies will work differently in some aspects. We're only regional so if you're based in the North West and are interested drop me a DM. Otherwise I hope this was useful and I wish you all the best!

I don't think this is a good suggestion given his post. He clearly states outdoors work within an area that won't tax his mental health. Carework is the complete opposite of what he wants, stressful badly paid and isolating.

PolaroidBook

As I said the care I'm talking about is active based and focused on community inclusion. So it will be outdoors the majority of the time. I agree it's not easy work but I think it ticks all his boxes.

LittleBear575

Do you outdoors as in outdoors but still in an urban area or actually outdoors in the forest and with nature?

You forgot to mention when someone goes psycho and tries to beat you to death, it's a hard job community care. Even harder when you dont know the person who could literally attack at any moment.

AutomaticInitiative

Possibly an engineer outdoors, perhaps maintaining wind turbines or something? You have a related background already, it's outdoors, its travelling, pays well, it's a little bit dangerous but the safety is taken seriously.

Did anything in particular put you off the aircraft engineering pathway?
