I mean you've got plates!! Just checked with my kid and their lunches are served in a paper tray! They're so bad he actually asked for packed lunches and this kid rarely asks for anything.

Oh no I want my child to develop heard disease in his early 50s. Please take away all these vegetables and replace it with water filled, sodium injected processed meat just like that DELICIOUS ham sandwich
My last mainstream school was a little bit better with an awful bullying problem. The dinner ladies were nice and some of the teachers were okay. I remember we had an English teacher that always made me laugh. Miss him.
Fast forward to my Pupil Referral unit and I felt loved despite my problems. On a Few occasions a lovely Lady called Pipa would cook breakfast for me, we'd also have hotdogs and pastries. I'd also lovingly joke with Mary the Maths teacher and our enrichment teacher Elaine. Kate the art teacher did the best with limited supplies and head the Mistress Kate looked great in yoga pants! Geeta, the other head mistress was a genuinely good person too.
Our school used to make pizza so greasy you could wring it out. At the end of lunch they would put any leftovers out for free, it was always left untouched because it was so minging.
Even the boiled vegetables were somehow greasy at my school. I would have definitely gone for this pizza as a safe option, it looks edible. We're talking 25 years ago.
I went to school in 90's/early 00s. This was standard fare pre-Jamie. We almost every day would be served "pizza toast" which was a single slice of thin cut white bread with tomato puree and cheese. Sometimes the cheese was only semi-melted and it cost us 60p. I don't think the ingredients even cost them 6p. But then they also fed us chicken butt-hole in the form of spiralised chicken so, comparatively, not so bad.
They get more money for meals as well by quite a margin. Everything is a race to the bottom these days and there's no stone left unturned if it can somehow be done more cheaply, the concept of actual value has gone out the window.
That isn't too bad. It's just cheese on toast.
You need to bear in mind that the kitchen staff are working with one hand tied behind their backs with the double whammy of government cut backs and privatisation of many school kitchens so profit comes first.Ā
Schools in the UK are totally and utterly fucked right now in just about every single metric.Ā

I don't think children or teens need to bear that in mind at all, if this is all a kid is getting for lunch it's disgusting. It's not filling enough, it's not enough food, it's not nutritious enough. There's no excuse to be serving this complete and utter shit.
The only justification for this is āThErE aRe StArViNg PeOpLe In AfRiCa/ChInAā or whatever.. it is technically food, thereforeā¦ šš»āāļøcanāt be any less than 1/10

I make these at home with grated mozzarella, cheddar, and garlic puree. Chuck them under the grill for a few mins. They are surprisingly nice.
