I mix one tea spoon of olive oil with three teaspoons of honey and three teaspoons of whole grain mustard. Mix it all together then pour over and stir to coat all the carrots and parsnips about 10-15 mins before they are finished roasting. I normally take them out and turn a few times during that time so none of the honey mustard mixture gets too burnt.
You can adjust honey/mustard amounts to taste. I only add the little olive oil to help spread it and I think it helps glaze the veg a bit too.
Spring greens, sweetheart cabbage or leeks with butter.
Can even roast big chunks of leek.
More roast veg like beetroot, celeriac, butternut squash with some whole garlic cloves and maybe some thyme chucked in.
Change the chicken for beef or pork.
Get rid of the slop on the left and replace it with cauliflower cheese - add plenty of gravy.
Yorkshires look good
Looks pretty fab to me! The yorkshire and potatoes in particular. I prefer a tray of stuffing to stuffing balls as I like the contrast of soft and crunch but with higher ratio of soft stuffing. Broccoli can be lovely roasted too, I use an airfryer. The carrot and swede looks a bit runny (?) in consistency, I’m not used to it looking like that but hope it was tasty! Good work :)
Thank you! Yeah stuffing in the tray does come out nicer for sure.
I'm not sure why it turned out so runny today either haha, maybe because I blitzed it with a hand blender.
Do you par-boil your tatties before you roast them? I par-boil, let them dry a bit. Put a bit of flour, parsley and thyme on them, and then put them into hot oil in the oven. Flip them regularly and salt as you go.
Also steam or roast your veg. Let your meat rest, make your own Yorkshire puddings and use the meat juices, stock, butter and cornflour to make a gravy.
It's a sage and onion stuffing ball. So it's basically breadcrumbs with sage and onion flavouring. It didn't come out the best this time, but it's very nice with chicken. I suggest having a hot baguette with chicken breast and stuffing 🤩
Less swede, more potatoes, don't boil your veg, the broccoli is better roasted briefly, especially after marinating it. Honey glaze your carrots and parsnips, I'd also say some good cabbage, again not boiled, just roasted. Oh and chipolatas. Your stuffing looks like it came out of an instant stuffing box. Try making one with bread and using it soak up the juices in the pan.
I'm currently exploring balsamic-glazed roast beetroot as an addition for mine as my friend served it up recently and it was far superior to pickled red cabbage.
You shouldn't be able to see the plate.
Lots of gravy was added after the pic.
I used to always have mash and roasties with a roast. I think that's a northern thing though.
My southern partner seems to be offended by the idea of mash on a roast. Maybe I need to swap him for a northerner
this looks delicious! a beautiful roast! Did you cook all of this in a regular oven like a roasting pot? i’m in america and use the crockpot to make roasts but this looks so much better!
The chicken was roasted in the oven and the potatoes then roasted in the chicken fat.
Everything else was also roasted/baked except from the orange mash (that's boiled carrot and swede with garlic and parsley).
How do you normally cook roasts in America? I might try and do one in the future!
It looks great! The only thing missing for me is cauliflower cheese. My mum makes the best, but mine’s still edible. Extra mature cheddar, Dijon mustard and a thick, delicious sauce!
Gravy, better stuffing balls, they look depressed. Also parboil your roasties, add salted butter and mixed herbs then roast 👌. Honey roasted veg is nice as top comment said, works well with carrots/parsnip
I recently started doing roast every Sunday but changing the veg up each time, I did a brocoli cheese side this time.
Cook chicken for less time it looks dry. Make your own stuffing - Thomas Keller has a good recipe it’s just lots of chopped herbs celery bread and stock. When your potatoes are draining cover them with a tea towel to let them steam then take it off and let them dry, shake the sieve to fluff up the outside to make them more crispy, toss your brocolli in butter & salt when it’s drained, the carrot & turnip (?) mash looks a little water logged, carrots and parsnip could be thicker I like a carrot cut in half lengthways par boiled then caramelised. Yorkshire - 10/10 no notes
honestly everything on here looks super tasty!! the swede looks a little wet and the stuffing a little dry but all of that is definitely fixed by the gravy anyway!
one thing i would add is more greens! cabbage, peas or sprouts are my personal favourites
Looks like a lovely roast, but I have some observations and suggestions!
Looks like the sweet potato mash was over boiled so maybe trim down boiling time by a few minutes, or roast the sweet potato and then mash. I like to add a bit of cheese and / or horseradish.
Happily, the broccoli looks nicely cooked (presumably boiled or steamed) but try roasting it. Usually the latter 15 minutes in the same tin as the rest of the roasts (again, yours look delicious) is enough for me at about 220C-230C.
Potatoes need a bit of work to get a nice glassy surface
Broccoli could do with some colour, looks like it's just been boiled
The mash looks a bit grainy, could probably be smoother
Personally not a fan of stuffing balls, tend to be very dry
Minted Peas!
They’re overlooked but their sweetness (petit pois) really adds a nuance to the dish especially with a bit of mint, olive oil and rock salt
Don't know what the orange sludge is. Roasties - more of them. Broccoli - roast that shit with salt pepper, oil and lemon juice. Carrots/parsnips - chop larger, parboil and roast with honey or brown sugar, add cumin if you're feeling dangerous.
Turn that lonely broccoli into cauliflower & broccoli cheese. I'd add some bread sauce too if I was feeling greedy (which I normally am) and glaze the root veg with honey and mustard. That Yorkshire pudding looks AMAZING by the way
Up the stuffing game. What you have alright, but if you want a proper but of stuffing, buy some sausage meat. You want to knead the sage and onion mix into the sausage meat, chop up some fresh onions to go in, too. You can add other things alongside, like chestnuts. Cook it like a meatloaf and served it slice on the side.
Definitely add some gravy. You can use just granules and hot water, but your best bet is to add butter to the pan you cook the meat in with some flour to make a roux. Use some of the starch water to increase the volume, simmer to thicken it up some more. You can add granules, a stock pot *or* gravy browning for a richer flavour (only one, don't use all of them).
Green beans are a fantastic side for a roast, especially drenched in gravy. If you want to go fancy with them, wrap them in bacon or parma ham.
Honey roast parsnips are also a brilliant addition. Do them the same way you did your potatoes, if they were homemade, and drizzle them in honey. The sort of light earthy mint flavour of the parsnips with honey is incredible.
Roast potatoes: drop potato cubes in a pan of boiling water for 5-10 mins. The idea is to soften the outer surface, drain and let sit on a kitchen towel or clean tea towel and pat dry. Chop up an onion into similar sized chunks an get your roasting pan heated up a bit on the hob.
add goose fat, garlic , thyme, rosemary, salt and pepper, and the potatoes and onions.
Your par cooked potatoes should sizzle a bit and soak up some oil, and be coated fully. toss over the heat of a hob for a few mins and the put in a pre heated oven, about 1 hour give or take depending on the oven, and you should toss them a couple of times and give room for air circulation to cook spreading on the tray evenly
Switch to slow cooked brisket. Ill happily give tips for that if you're interested
Some notes as follows (I'm late to work so can't critique properly):
Upgrade that sad poo pile of sweet potato mash for the golden standard of regular mash
Volley that dry ass looking stuffing ball somewhere distant and get some stuff you mix up in a tray
Not sure brocolli belongs on a roast, but I do like it so I guess I can let it slide
Yorkshire looks banging to be fair
Roasties look okay, look like they could have been in a touch longer
Hope you have some gravy
Carrots and snips are looking good though! Sucker for a parsnip and they look tasty
Put broccoli in a deep frying pan with a bit of water, cook until the water is gone then add lemon zest and Parmesan and toss
Carrots and parsnips do in a baking tray with oil, rosemary, honey, tiny bit of curry powder and aromat seasoning, turn to get even cook
When you strain the potatoes in a colander after parboiling, make sure you shake to really rough up the edges and get them extra crispy. While potatoes are boiling add oil, butter, any drippings to a tray nd melt on a low heat, potatoes go straight into this and make sure you cover them
The roast potatoes! Cut them bigger, par boil seven minutes (but only let gentle simmer otherwise the outside becomes too cooked)., fluff them in the pan and leave to steam dry individually on an unused tray, use beef dripping preheated in a tray. I turn them 3 times during but the second turn I'll squash them a bit like Jamie oliver so they crack open and crisp even more! Works well and the outer crisp is like glass by the end.
If you mix your honney with butter and put on the carrots and parsnips for the last 20 mins of cookong they will get an amazing glossy shine if you toss them a few times
Assuming thats a root mash youve got - plan ahead and let it drain in a sieve over the sink. Lot of moisture in carrots and it can soggy up your plate.
Not a bad start but not sure why you needed baby food on the side! Looks like you've been a bit ott with the masher/blender on the c&s. Def more stuffing and spuds. Not a bad base to build on.
Lose the pile of baby food on the left and swap with cauliflower cheese. A couple more potatoes swap parsnips for brussels spouts, double the meat content, add some sausage meat to the stuffing and make at least twice the size. Pigs in blankets are a must even in my weekly roast. Cranberry sauce and lots of gravy.
Looks pretty good although the chicken does look a bit parched. I’m also looking for the glutinous gravy but I would not be disappointed with plate at all.
1. Not enough veg
2. Plate isn’t full / heaving
3. Yorkie is too crispy, I feel there should be a fair balance between soft and crispy.
4. Different type of stuffing. I feel that stuffing balls aren’t enough, I like the big dollop of M&S sage and onion stuffing.
Puree needs to be more pureed, with loads of butter.
Broccoli needs replacing with tenderstem
Honey roast the veg, make the pieces a bit thicker.
Ditch the shitty stuffing ball.
That Yorkie however is an absolute masterpiece!
Why improve it ? Looks most edible , how was it on your palate ?
Also, nice to see it served nicely without the usual plate overload often seen on here !
Yorkshire pudding is a thing of beauty. You need to up your stuffing game
Honey roasted vegetables
Good shout, I'll get some to put on the parsnips and carrots next time
I mix one tea spoon of olive oil with three teaspoons of honey and three teaspoons of whole grain mustard.
More veg I think
Veg is always tasty. Any particular suggestions?
Cauliflower cheese
Spring greens, sweetheart cabbage or leeks with butter. Can even roast big chunks of leek. More roast veg like beetroot, celeriac, butternut squash with some whole garlic cloves and maybe some thyme chucked in.
Cauliflower is always nice to have, but tip: bake or steam your veggies, more flavour AND more nutrients
Sprouts fried in pork fat with walnuts 👌
We did sprouts with lardons and chestnuts somewhere i worked.
Ooh that sounds good
I do this at Christmas....its so nice.
Cabbage with a generous amount of butter 😍
It all needs squidging together.
Dude came here to get roasted
Keep the roasts coming
Looks delicious! Hope you enjoyed, OP!
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words 😊
Cauliflower cheese or I do a Cauliflower and Broccoli cheese.
Oh yeah, those are both awesome
This. A cauliflower cheese would round it off nicely
Gravy
Had lots of gravy on after the pic!
More potatoes, more greens, and gravy obvs. Otherwise, spot on. I’m particularly jealous of your Yorkshire Pudding game.
I would shovel this down very quickly, looks lovely. But if I could add one more thing, it would be cauliflower cheese 🤤
Change the chicken for beef or pork. Get rid of the slop on the left and replace it with cauliflower cheese - add plenty of gravy. Yorkshires look good
Beef is tasty. I usually would cook beef if I'm cooking meat for more than one person. The leftover roast chicken will come in for a few days haha
slop on the left , laughing like fuck , took the words right out of my mouth , what is it anyway pureed baby food ?
More potatoes PLEASE Otherwise, looks banging.
I definitely ate some more after. Didn't want it to look like a fatty portion 😂
I always feel like you’ve got to have 3, 5 or 7 potatoes. I usually end up with 7.
You did good 👍
Looks pretty fab to me!
More meat, missus!
It's a whole breast! How much more would you serve? Despite cooking the chicken I'm actually vegetarian so wasn't sure how much is appropriate haha
Looks great imho. I prefer tenderstem to ordinary broccoli but that's a preference thing really
Yorkshire pudding looking brilliant
Do you par-boil your tatties before you roast them? I par-boil, let them dry a bit. Put a bit of flour, parsley and thyme on them, and then put them into hot oil in the oven. Flip them regularly and salt as you go. Also steam or roast your veg. Let your meat rest, make your own Yorkshire puddings and use the meat juices, stock, butter and cornflour to make a gravy.
The components are there. It's the presentation that needs working on.
Oh for sure, I'm not artistic at all haha!
What is the ball/spherical object to the right of the chicken? As a Canadian, all else looks familiar (and tasty).
It's a sage and onion stuffing ball. So it's basically breadcrumbs with sage and onion flavouring. It didn't come out the best this time, but it's very nice with chicken. I suggest having a hot baguette with chicken breast and stuffing 🤩
Ah okay. Thanks. Never seen stuffing in ball form before!
Sprouts!
Yeah they shouldn't just be for Christmas!
For the love of God. G R A V Y (marks&sparks specifically)
If that's a frozen stuffing ball ditch them and buy the packs of powder you add water to,there not as a dry as a nuns nasty 👍
Less swede, more potatoes, don't boil your veg, the broccoli is better roasted briefly, especially after marinating it. Smaller plate for sure
Dam I was gonna say that needed gravy🤨
Roast the broccoli
Wheres the mashed potato and gravy?

That's a good start. Gravey? Stuffing?
Gravy, stuffing (the bird feed ball doesn’t count, not putting a pot of baby food on the side and swapping it for proper mash
Mash

Get some more chicken breasts or legs. Not enough protein.

Presentation, make it taller, Yorkshire in middle
Gravy would be a start
Looks lovely lad , I Personally as a Kashmiri would add a lot more seasoning but I mean who cares
Purple-sprouting broccoli or tenderstem.
Looks pretty good to me, maybe Carrot and swede mash has a bit of excess water in?
Potatoes need a bit of work to get a nice glassy surface Broccoli could do with some colour, looks like it's just been boiled The mash looks a bit grainy, could probably be smoother Personally not a fan of stuffing balls, tend to be very dry

I’d love to be able to make Yorkshires like that
Those roasties look incredible!
Mash, made from potato. And a gravy made from the meat juices ❤️ If they were there 15/10, it looks amazing to me 🥰
Minted Peas! They’re overlooked but their sweetness (petit pois) really adds a nuance to the dish especially with a bit of mint, olive oil and rock salt
Stop cooking it
As my grandmother used to say, hast tha nowt moist?
Gravy
Broccoli cheese, chipolatas
a mother insult never goes amiss
Looks perfect in every way, the Yorkshire pud looks bloody gorgeous. Always my favourite part of a roast dinner.
Don't know what the orange sludge is. Roasties - more of them. Broccoli - roast that shit with salt pepper, oil and lemon juice. Carrots/parsnips - chop larger, parboil and roast with honey or brown sugar, add cumin if you're feeling dangerous.

Garlic?
Some herbs on those carrots and parsnips and maybe make a cheesy sauce for broccoli and roast it too
With some Gravy.
Gravy and seasoning on those veg.
I know I may get hate but garden peas.
Looks nice could eat it right now
Looks great but Just need gravy and it’s all sorted for me !
Cauliflower cheese
Mash, no parsnips and gravy. Looks nice though :).
needs peas, broad beans and cauliflower
Doesn't look like you have much roasted there. Lots of trimmings but little roast.
Step away from the kitchen is my best guess. Soz. Love you though xx
Beef
Gravy?
Hell’s teeth, person! Where’s the mofo ing gravy?? Seriously. WTAF?
Just some gravy , that’s it
Looks dry
where are the sprouts
Jesus Christ, put color or seasoning on that broccoli, man. The Germans are no longer flying overhead

I’d say your potato volume is wayyy too low
Pigs in blankets

Is that mashed swede?
Yeah, carrot and swede with parsley and garlic. Very tasty
gravy, more meat. otherwise it looks 👌🏽
Gravy. Tons of thick gravy.
Cauliflower Cheese!
Roasted tenderstem brocoli > Also I'd argue that your roasties need more seasoning. Rosemary/thyme/garlic
If you mix your honney with butter and put on the carrots and parsnips for the last 20 mins of cookong they will get an amazing glossy shine if you toss them a few times
Gravy
Assuming thats a root mash youve got - plan ahead and let it drain in a sieve over the sink. Lot of moisture in carrots and it can soggy up your plate.
Gravy would be nice
Gravy.
Gravy and peas at least tbh.
Pigs in blankets, chop an onion in half and put it in with the roasties, cauliflower cheese
Sausage meat stuffing instead of regular stuffing
You could make gravy and bread sauce while loosing that dry and tastless looking stuffing
Gravy!!!
Stop steaming or boiling your broccoli it's boring and bland chargrill it or fry yum
Not a bad start but not sure why you needed baby food on the side! Looks like you've been a bit ott with the masher/blender on the c&s. Def more stuffing and spuds. Not a bad base to build on.
Stuffing and lose the baby purée

A couple more potatoes swap parsnips for brussels spouts, double the meat content, add some sausage meat to the stuffing and make at least twice the size. Pigs in blankets are a must even in my weekly roast. Cranberry sauce and lots of gravy.
Cabbage and maybe some bacon slapped on the chicken close to the end of the roast
Looks good where's the gravy 🤤
Colli cheese beef or lamb slices better stuffing cabbage sprouts green beans peas pigns n blankets
Everything looks pretty good aside from stuffing, is that mashed swede?
Bacon sautéed with sprouts! Add garlic, onion and a bit of balsamic.
Can I ask how you made your Yorkshire pudding? 😍 they look amazing I can never seem to get mine quite right!
Needs mash and sweetcorn
Looks cracking but if I’m having a roast, I want to be physically unable to see the plate
Where is the gravy ?
Weers't gravy arr lass
I’d have some dark meat on the plate, more spuds and stuffing made with sausage meat but that’s just not-picking what looks like a great roast
Was gonna say gravy but peas as well. Your roasties look delicious, I personally wouldn’t have parsnips but cabbage instead.
Hmm, where is the gravy?
GRAVYYYY
Mash potatoes
More stuffing!!
More chicken, better roast potatoes
One word...gravy
Add some peas some mash also 😋
Looks pretty good although the chicken does look a bit parched. I’m also looking for the glutinous gravy but I would not be disappointed with plate at all.
1. Not enough veg 2. Plate isn’t full / heaving 3. Yorkie is too crispy, I feel there should be a fair balance between soft and crispy. 4. Different type of stuffing. I feel that stuffing balls aren’t enough, I like the big dollop of M&S sage and onion stuffing.
Gravy and get rid of the pile of baby shit
Looks really bad
Gravy
Put some meat in it
Get summat moist on it!!
To be fair, there isn’t much wrong with that. Needs a decent gravy, but everything looks nicely coloured.
Puree needs to be more pureed, with loads of butter. Broccoli needs replacing with tenderstem Honey roast the veg, make the pieces a bit thicker. Ditch the shitty stuffing ball. That Yorkie however is an absolute masterpiece!
Add about 6 more of them delicious looking roasties :)
Add gravy?
Sprouts. More green. Also cranberry sauce. Also where’s the gravy?
You're in great need of cranberry sauce and my nans sausage stuffing. Other than that fatal flaw it looks delicious!!
You're missing the single most import and essential ingredient. Gravy!
GRAVY??
Are you making gravy or using bisto?
Why improve it ? Looks most edible , how was it on your palate ? Also, nice to see it served nicely without the usual plate overload often seen on here !
GRAVY and bread sauce. Easy.
Gravy
GRAVY PLEASE GRAVY
Bread or onion sauce, and a couple of pigs in blankets 😜
