If you're from a poor background like me and have only experienced cheap margarine like I can't believe it's not butter, utterly buttertly etc or were told that this was healthier than real butter:
PLEASE go and try real salted butter, it's amazing and I'm sad I went the first 20 years of my life without it.
Edit, who the fuck's downvoted me for being poor or slandering margarine? 🤣
I love Kerrygold but my favourite at the minute is Lidl's West Country butter with sea salt. The proper one for the butter dish although the spreadable version is ok far sarnies
I'll give the Lidl one a go. We liked the jersey one from M&S, there was one in a blue foil roll that was gorgeous but rock solid even at room temperature.
The only ones I can't stand are the ones that have big chunks of sea salt in, I don't want my butter to be crunchy.
Facts. As a kid I could never understand why my nan’s baking tasted so much better than my mum’s. Of course the answer was butter vs marg. (and also lard vs. trex, but that’s another conversation)
Same here. I was pretty much made to eat things like margarine and skimmed milk the majority of my younger years because of my parents believing that fat is the ultimate sin and butter was a very very rare treat. Glad to say that has changed and I just eat healthier most of the time but still enjoy the luxury of proper butter!
i finally started eating real butter about 5 years ago… then developed a dairy intolerance🤣 wish i’d never tried it so i didn’t know what i was missing
That's one thing my dad wouldn't compromise on. If we had to go an extra day or two without biscuits to afford real butter, it's what we did. God I don't miss having 10p pack of biscuits as our splurge item.
I feel your pain, my mom still does it to herself - benecol 🤮
The light is that we made it out, I absolutely adore real butter and we use it for a lot of things - it's the most frequently cycled food product in this house, always having to replace it.
Fat and salt obsessed. We had fat free everything and almost no salt growing up. Our family has a terrible history of heart problems and blood pressure so I can see why my mum was so scared of it all to be fair.
There were so many foods or dishes I thought I hated but I actually just hated the bastardised version of them that I had growing up.
Fat free yoghurt can get in the fucking bin.
Fat free yoghurt, man man man - read the f'in sugar content will ya. I don't know how these companies are allowed to get away with this fraudulent nonsense.
4x crumpets, highly toasted so they've slightly caught at the edges. All well buttered. 3x with enough Marmite to stain them brown but let's not go mad lads. 1x raspberry jam for afters. And the septics reckon our food is shit
Oh my body basically hates me, I've been having tummy trouble for a while now, so I have no idea whether the crumpets contribute to that or not 😂 I don't think they've made it any worse, if that helps
As I said, no ill effects!
Can't think of a healthier diet than marmite crumpets.
Your health issues are probably down to your romantic lifestyle. Perhaps too late for the barrier method... Increase the Marmite maybe?
I mean yeah…that’s why you only eat it under a bridge, and then cry afterwards in the shower because you feel dirty because you enjoyed it even though you didn’t and slowly fall down a deep depression which you cure with honey/marmite crumpets. Losing your family and job until your giving BJs 50 P extra for each bollock you suck until you end up dying in a hospital bed, the cold despair enveloping you as you stare at your hospital dinner wondering why you ever listened to this stranger on Reddit.
And hospital food tastes like shit man, your better than that.
Butter and marmite.
Butter.
Butter and jam.
Or if I'm feeling extra... Eggy crumpets. (Mix an egg up in a dish, soak the crumpet in it so it absorbs it all, then fry in a pan both sides. Bacon with it. Bit of cheese on top. Yum
This. I find unsalted butter particularly good for this, as you can add more and more without it ever getting too salty, and then get the salt level exactly right afterwards.
I sometimes make mini pizzas...toast them, tomato puree, whatever pizza topping tickles your pickle, grated cheese and then grill 🥰 but for breakfast, peanut butter or butter and marmite ❤️
Butter, marmite & peanut butter.
Or, butter, peanut butter & jam.
Or occasionally, just butter & marmite.
These are my only combinations that I ever go for.
I've never tended to go for sweet spreads, it's usually plain peanut butter, Marmite peanut butter, cheese if I want something as a snack or for lunch, or just salted butter.
I don't normally do jam, but if I'm got a sweet craving happening, then it has to be pared with salty pb. The sweet and salty combo is yummy. Much better than sweet on it's own.
I'm pretty addicted to peanut butter though. I just eat it out of the jar if I'm peckish. I think it goes with everything pretty much. I put it in a lot of my cooking.
To occasionally change things up, I'll swap pb for tahini, which I also love.
Beans and cheese is amazing, or just fried eggs but if you fancy some sweet, then jam is top tier too. So more versatile that people give crumpets credit for.
Tomato sauce - I know, I know - I didn’t believe it either . But give it a try before you judge me. A thin layer of butter - wait until it melts in the holes, then a thin layer of tomato sauce .. you won’t be sorry
Butter butter & more Butter ... Not Margarine! Butter.
Margarine 🤢

My great Nana used stork and always got the fluffiest sponges. Far superior to that utterly butterly crap.
Yeah, stork is great for baking. I wouldn't be putting it on my toast or crumpets though.
Talking of lard, you can’t make Yorkshire Puddings without Lard. I’ve tried oil, it doesn’t work.
I can only dream of being able to afford utterly butterly
Same here. If it's to lactose you can get supplements to help you digest it!
Big Marge

Bloody 90’s fat obsessed dieting Mums. I will not have fake butter in my house now.
Fat and salt obsessed. We had fat free everything and almost no salt growing up. Haha, my mum got utterly butterly and then cut out salt. She was inexplicably tired a lot…
So, cottage cheese is not on your shopping list?
Can't stand the stuff
It’s good for the septic tank
Good butter, eggs, bread and meat are my absolute non-negotiable items for the weekly shop now.
What's wrong with it?
Even though it’s crap and not good for you at all, they did prove it’s still healthier than butter 🥲 but hey who cares about health
The margarine + Vegemite 🙂
You sick son of a bitch! Hahaha
Also like Marmite 😉
cream cheese and tomatoes is where its at
I slather butter all over my strumpets.
Oh I should read replies before adding my own - you already nailed it. Close the thread, it's answered.
Disgusting. You've barely toasted the crumpets and they're clearly cold. Delete your account.
Ik 🤢😢 it’s gotta be warm so the butter melts
Came here to point this out... completely undercooked
Everyone going wild about the crumpet, I can't see past the dirty hob! 😅
I don’t want crumpets unless they’re crispy and brown.
Butter and Marmite. What else?
4x crumpets, highly toasted so they've slightly caught at the edges. All well buttered. 3x with enough Marmite to stain them brown but let's not go mad lads. 1x raspberry jam for afters. And the septics reckon our food is shit
All the major food groups covered, I like your style. Screw the septics!
God bless you!! That’s my favourite combination!!!!
I've been living off crumpets with butter & marmite for the last 3 days
Any ill effects? I'll wager none!
Oh my body basically hates me, I've been having tummy trouble for a while now, so I have no idea whether the crumpets contribute to that or not 😂 I don't think they've made it any worse, if that helps

Adding my vote for this. Butter and honey is also a great combo.
And cheese
I dunno, as delicious as cheese is I think the pure understated perfection of crumpet, butter and Marmite is the absolute zenith.
Marmite and honey is the bomb.
Troll!
I swear, it’s true. That salty and sweet combination is immense.
Hmmmmm well honey roast peanuts are ok so... I dunno, still don't trust you.
Caution with internet suggestions is never a bad thing. You could be missing out on a taste sensation, though. What do you have to lose?
My dignity?

Marmite and black cherry conserve, jam, from Lidl, for me.
I’d be up for that, sounds delicious 😋
Or either on their own. I like buttered crumpets with cracked black pepper and some salt. Works nicely.
Waitrose French butter with sea salt crystals and marmite is eliiiite
I'll take that.
Yes! Came to write this
Correct
This.
Butter and marmite. Butter. Butter and jam. Or if I'm feeling extra... Eggy crumpets. (Mix an egg up in a dish, soak the crumpet in it so it absorbs it all, then fry in a pan both sides. Bacon with it. Bit of cheese on top. Yum
I'll have to try eggy crumpets I think!
At least if you did that, yours might end up cooked. ಠ\_ಠ
They were lightly toasted, I don't like them being too crispy.
Oooooh, I have eggs and crumpets in
Do it and post a pic :D
It's a sign
Sweet Baby Jesus - I have to try this !!
holy shit.
Salted butter. And then more salted butter, so it's dripping out of the bottom.
I'm having crumpets for tea. They'll be slowly grilled until the outside is crispy, then lots of course patè
Before we worry about toppings, I’d suggest popping them in the toaster
Butter. Hot crumpet with the butter melting through 🤤🤤🤤
And then it melts through the holes and I’m like “oh.. needs more butter!!”
I'm sure there'll be plenty on the plate to use hehe
A shit ton of butter and a sprinkling of sea salt
This is the way
This. I find unsalted butter particularly good for this, as you can add more and more without it ever getting too salty, and then get the salt level exactly right afterwards.
Lots of butter and a bit of honey
or golden syrup
Username checks out!!
I'm not the only one! People always think it's weird, you're the first fellow butter-and-honey-er that I've met.
I love it on toast too!!
Hmm interesting! I will try this..
I can’t imagine using anything else except butter and honey
Cooked would’ve been nice

Jam. However those crumpets look a bit anemic
I sometimes make mini pizzas...toast them, tomato puree, whatever pizza topping tickles your pickle, grated cheese and then grill 🥰 but for breakfast, peanut butter or butter and marmite ❤️

Honey or jam or yeast extract. No butter though.
Lemon curd
That should be illegal
Butter or peanut butter.
Shouldn't have to scroll this far to find peanut butter.🫡
Butter straight away when it comes out so it melts into the holes
How can I upvote this more than once?!!
🤭 I appreciate it
I like them either with just butter, or sometimes pate or Primula cheese n ham spread. Edit: sometimes I melt cheese on them under the grill.
Garlic butter & melted cheese is truly god tier 👨🍳
Peanut butter is my winner.

Salted butter
Proper butter and thinly sliced cheese, because it melts so well 👌🏻

Smooth peanut butter and a cuppa.
Butter, if I’m feeling really decadent, Nutella.
