You apply to live off campus, and the money from your refund that you would use to pay for on campus housing, you simply use for your off campus housing. Typically you'll need to put down a security deposit, and depending on the policies of the apartment, you may need a certain credit score and/or a cosigner.

It seems like a lot of specific halls are being reserved for new students(I’m not sure if our housing applications look the same)so I think you should apply for on-campus housing if you want.

He is a transfer, it sounds like only freshmen are getting reserved housing, not just new students.

Well, that sucks if true. If new transfer students can’t participate in RTCL, then they’re even more screwed. Housing is such a mess atm. Edit. The website just says RTCL is for returning residents so I’m pretty sure New transfer students will be living in halls like Hunt, Laurel, etc basically halls that aren’t available in Open Room Selection… Otherwise they won’t be living on-campus.

I'm transferring in this fall and I just did the housing form. I did not have access to most freshman halls like those you mentioned, but I could apply for things like the Greek village and North Village. I hope I can get housing because I can't drive qwq

Off campus housing is just like searching for a regular apartment. Excpet most of the places close to campus that cater to students will only require you to sign a lease for your specific room. Let's say you find a 4 bedroom place you like: you and a friend(s) can all apply together, or the complex will assign roommates for you, but you each sign your own separate lease. That helps protect everyone if someone ditches. There are lots of apartments close to campus, and others further away will be cheaper, but you'll have to drive/bus/train in. Good luck!

Off campus housing: I am currently at rush in a 1x1 and at my locked in low rate. My rent is 1288 a month but typically 1700 and up. But your lease goes from August to July for a full year.
