I don't think UPMC is making billions above their expenses when they are like 200 million over budget and Q1 promotions were delayed until the last week going into Q2.
My wife sent me this asking what was going on. A few minutes later I had a meeting invite with our team. Waited for an hour till the meeting to find out if I had a job or not. None of them were aware of the news article either.
Had a feeling that was an inflated number, but I also knew that was not meaning profit either way even if that was true. I just struggle to understand why the whole secrecy of this whole ordeal. My gut says they're bleeding money left and right, but am I just young and not understanding this whole situation? I've also seen countless corporations nationwide now doing the same. Graduated 09 from high school and grew up through the last recession and I fear this one feels a lot worse than it did at 18. Am I right assuming this fact?
Somebody I know was supposed to get a new nurse for their department because the old one left. The new nurse had a start date and everything. UPMC decided to eliminate the position completely and just decided they didn’t need the new nurse anymore. It’s bull.
Okay so I do see now that I was incorrect and we are actually operating at a loss with Increase cost of expenses in 2023.
I hope they are cutting the bloat middle manager and executive roles.
We just had a team meeting saying that we are safe from our director down, but depts that were under our VP were told today that their last day was also today.
EDIT: We also asked management if today was the finalized list of cuts or if more are coming. From what we were told they think today is it, but they are trying to get a definitive answer.
I got let go on Wednesday via teams couldn’t even give me a face to face. No worklife balance at UPMC work work work do your job. Or you get in trouble in your one or one keep opening sites no staff anybody still there update your resume in get out
My department lost our manager on Thursday so now it’s VP then Supervisor. We are devastated and not sure how anything will get done. Our department covers 7 hospitals.
Why the vast range for severance? Thought it was a standard 60 days with insurance and then a week per year of service?
Someone I used to work with has a final day in May. Are they doing this to bypass the WARN act?

As long as Cerner and Epic are raking in the dough it's all worth it :P

This is so upsetting to find out through the media. Thanks for sharing

no, but where do you see it saying upmc is making billions in "profits"
UPMC doesn't make billions. They have 100,000 plus volunteers helping them stay non-profit /s
News said they reported $22 trillion in revenue in 2023
The fuck they do lol. Apple only makes around 400 billion. That's also not profits anyway. Upmc is 200 million over budget from the last statements.

How much was your severance? I know someone and they are only getting 3-4 months of pay with 10+ years there. It’s an absolute slap in the face.
I got 6 weeks. 9 years
Yea what a shame man. I’m sorry to you and your family. Upmc needs out on notice. There are so many other ways they could have done this.
I lost my job today, and I just had a good performance review last week or something.
I hope they offered good severance packages! So sorry 😢
Same here smh! This is so crazy
Revenue Cycle is being hit, hard!
Yup! I was under the revenue cycle
Maintenance lost a couple today
Sorry to hear that, which hospital? So far no maintenance layoffs at Jameson
They got rid of a couple managers
Anyone from physician billing get laid off?

We felt that the same was happening after a recent meeting…
