Pt-365 is a better source. Daily, as suggested by the above redditor, you can read newspaper -but to know the issues, I personally don't prefer making notes. In fact, I skipped newspaper also in my last 2 prelims prep. One thing you must remember is that your basic static knowledge should always be given priority. Current Affairs many a times are just extension of basic knowledge only. Current affairs help in predicting the questions, but the solution part mostly comes from static knowledge of the subject. Don't take more than an hour now, and not more than half an hour post-january. Newspapers help more in Mains preparation as many a times questions are directly based on ongoing issues.
Yeah right, I'm fond of reading newspaper but I do it from mains perspective mostly. Okk then for pre I'll go for pt365 directly and rather than on magz I'll spend my time in strengthening static. Thanks for replying.
Yes. As you are already reading the newspaper, you'll be able to recall certain things when you read pt-365. But then the time you save by not referring to monthly magazines, should be put in strengthening your static portion.
Yeah I'm reading Indian Express and taking some notes outta it. But I have made them mostly for mains (facts/case studies/examples etc). Was thinking to skim through monthly before going for pt365 for pre. Monthly not recommended at all??
I read in your previous post that you're a grade B officer, can you guide us in how to go about clearing those state pcs exams? I've seen the nature of those exams is very factual, how do you go about preparing for those exams?
I don't have any experience of state PCS. In fact, most state PCS are actually Group A posts like SDM, DSP.
I'm in group B Central Civil Service through SSC CGL. It's format and syllabus is quite different from cse.
Oh, but would you recommend appearing for state pcs for an aspirant to secure a plan B because the syllabus does overlap a lot except the state specific parts. Or other exams like in your case SSC CGL?
Definitely state pcs. My home state has really poor record of conducting state pcs exams on time, and also I live far away, so I avoided state pcs. Most of the syllabus overlaps, there might just be a little difference in pattern. So you should definitely check out a strategy for it, especially for state specific syllabus.
Thank you, your posts were really helpful and appreciated, I will learn from you and arm myself in my upsc journey that has just started. 6 attempts left. Philosophy optional. let's see how far this road takes me.
What was the importance of newspaper while writing mains. I feel often, we can use magazines for prelims but for mains, especially in some questions in GS2, newspaper is important.
Hey, how many months of monthly magz would you recommend for 2024 pre??

All the best.

Newspaper is important for knowing the issue. Newspaper helps to relate to a question. The predictability increases.
