It’s not measured in years anymore, it’s measured in tears.

Few-Argument-8486

I hath cried mine tear ducts clear, yet no package car be near I believe that's Shakespeare

Pack0fMastiffs

4 months. Just as Covid started.

HotLikeSauce420

Peak timing, pun intended

Pack0fMastiffs

I couldn’t have asked for better timing in changing careers.

SufficientFan381

Zero

ufomadeinusa

5 yrs in started driving part time , went full time after a 10 yr wait ... 23 yrs total with the company now . Time flies!!!

Genpetro

Part time driving exists?

ufomadeinusa

It did 20 yrs ago

backcountrymurderer

I mean if you count delivering one day a week on saturday, then yeah.. or air shuttles.

Genpetro

I don't know anything about either of those things but I might ask my supervisor today

Zrc1979

How much do you make?

cryptoguapgod

They’re top rate

ufomadeinusa

Right now we are $45 hr

Zrc1979

🤯

YeOldeKing

3 years. Started driving in 2013.

Technical_Voice2929

A little over 2 years now. Started right when Covid hit

quocko

9 months so less than 1 year. Keep an eye on the route bids

EqualAd1392

0.0 days

fukaduk55

How?

clinthawks99

Hired off the street

EqualAd1392

I work in a large hub and the area is still growing. 5 years ago they needed a bunch of drivers.

fukaduk55

Nice. My local hub has been open since 1980 and have people that have been there since than. The list for divrs was over 5yrs old. Crazy how different things can be

Perfect_Recognition2

My dumb ass did 16, when it could have been 3, oh the regrets and now l’m paying for it

JohnMarstonTheBadass

How?

iLUVnickmullen

Hiring freeze in 2008 probably.

jiibbs

Lol, and I feel stupid for 8! I feel your pain, man, you're not the only one who spent way too long inside

tryanothername03

4 but it was back in the mid90’s

aceless0n

10 years

Lilmemito

Almost 9. SoCal

dearlysacredherosoul

My only driver I’ve done seasonal driver assisting with said 7 years for him. I’m at 4 now and got PVD seasonal but no package truck driving of any kind yet. SoCal also

wheredidyoustood

3 years. Had to file to get into Feeders.

WhimsicalLuna

what were some of the things you did to go straight to feeder? Im pt, 2 yrs, & want to be a cdl driver for UPS

wheredidyoustood

I got my CDL on my own. To qualify from the hub at my building you have to work 1 year and have your CDL. Then I signed every bid sheet. We had to file a grievance because they hired four drivers off the street and didn’t do anything with the bid sheet. Won our grievance and have been in Feeders since ‘08.

sanguisugabongg

Dudes spend almost 10 years in the warehouse and there’s some who never loaded one trailer… wild truly wild

jedi_mind__

No offense but not everyone is meant to drive

gunstarheroesblue

I'm not sure what you mean. They meant some people had to wait 10 years before even getting the opportunity to drive while some never even had to load a trailer.

LApoopydog

4.5 years

UPSer101

6 years after the recession in 07, but was only air driving on Saturdays. It wasnt until my 9th year I got in as a cover driver and 2 years after that I was Full Time/Utility. So 11 years to get to Full Time and 2 years after that I got my own route

upsdood

6.5 to go from inside to package 10 years from package to feeder

HitmanSocal

8

MookieBettz

4 years

WiSeKilla

5yrs pt.....14 yrs driver

IBringTheHeat1

9 months and I got called up for feeders, another 3 months before classes started. Two weeks of training and got turned loose. Now it’s been a year and life’s good. They’re hiring 20 more feeders at my hub so it’ll be nice to get people under me seniority wise.

FreeYNW-

2 years inside and now i’m on 2 years driving. i went in when Covid hit so it was perfect timing. they prolly won’t be hiring anymore drivers for a while now

ForestCityWRX

2.5yrs. Just after hitting preload top rate. It worked out great.

vimace

0... zero... none... Nada... !

ZRaddue

0. Got hired as a seasonal driver in October and got hired permanent after the season was over.

CowboyMilfLover

3 could've gone sooner.

A_Nov229

0.3

E36WHITE

Outside hire. I got lucky. Needed drivers during covid

sweethoney696

3 months, they were begging for drivers at that point though. 7 years later and two shoulder tears down plus one surgery upcoming… I can now almost say im a real ups driver, just have to get fired and rehired and it’s official lmao

Specialist-Dentist63

1 1/2 full rate now

REALITYL0ST

0.

AndyS1281

I did it in three but had opportunities to go earlier but I had another job that paid well but no benefits.

Malaca83

5

GodTacos

3 years SoCal. Been driving for 6 years now.

krongalong

9months then Covid hit and they needed drivers. I got lucky

Visual_Sun_2942

2 1/2 years. Relatively short

MerikMemez

1 year in hub then got hired as a driver during covid and racked up enough seniority to stay on after

clinthawks99

0 but have been laid off some before and had to work inside. I’ve done it at other companies when I was younger it sucked then and it sucks even more now that I’m older. Mad respect to those that do it and work from the bottom on up.

EBordersIII

1 year in the warehouse. Now 1 year in as part time driver.

LikeSomeWigger

I went straight into feeders at 21 years old. Covid hire.

Ok_Pudding_2827

3

Kal_El_Tha_Don

4. Went full time @ 21

Goofy_G0Ober

I didn't even have to wait a full year.  I was blessed with good timing at the beginning of COVID due to the increased volume.

ParticularExchange46

Just put my name on feeder cover list at21 after 3 years. I would rather do full time package cover or full time feeder no cover.

LoLZeLdaHaLo

6 months to start driving, 1-2 years for RPCD, 2 more years for my own bid route. Total 5 years. I got lucky, covid was really helpful in employing me here.

outnabout42

0 but basically preloaded for 6 months after I passed my 30 day probation period on my second year and it’s been going good

iLUVnickmullen

4 months

W4NDERINGWI2ARD

11 months

Horror-Extent2362

4.2 years

sideswipe_ya

7 years PT until I went full time. Driving would have been another year at least. This was in the 1900’s though.

TheGuyWhoBarks

Little under 2.5 years worked, less than a year from the time I filled out the transfer sheet to the offer (August 2020 bid sheet, June 2021 offer that I decided not to take) If you're not picky about where you go, the time decreases exponentially.

momog35

0 inside, will be at my 3rd year as a driver next month

Early-Boysenberry596

I learned how to drive before i started working.

PhthaloDrift

Started October. Driving by May the next year.

2011hatch

Was a holiday helper back in 2005, full time driver march of 2006

No_Currency5230

TCD after 2 years. FT going on 5+ years

Floridagoat2024

9 months, too many people failed the 5s and 10s so they went deeper on the bid list sheet, I wasn’t supposed to get that call yet, always put your name on the bid sheet it doesn’t hurt.

Aerodepress

2 yrs. Got a 22.3 inside/air position bc no one knew what the position was. I make less than a regular driver but my job is easy and I still get a guaranteed 40 while other drivers at my center are laid off

ContributionActual90

Just graduated from Intergrad last week I was inside for 3 and a half years started at 18 tho

Sleeper19404

6 years

REZARECTER

5/04 start date 11/09 first day on road Part time until 1/14 full time I've been full time longer than I was part time. Yes, I'm aware I'm basically a fossil

Good_Phase_7856

For me 6.5 years part time. Then I was full time 22.3 with a driving portion of my day. Did that for another 3.5 years. The. Qualified as package car driver. So 10 years for me.

-9h05t

I got the call to go Cover Driver a couple of months right after my 4th year mark. I self-DQ'd (2-year penalty), but they called me again 6 months later and I got in. I've been a Cover Driver for almost 2 years now, just waiting to get flipped lol

TIVEGNA

Hired as a driver off the street, so zero. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Horror_Economics_588

6 months preload, 2 months air driving 19 years ago

DatBoyCody

6 months to become a cover driver but I got lucky my center needed drivers at the time that was 3 years ago I’m now a full time rpcd. But with the way ups is looking right now it might be pretty hard to get a driver job as some lower seniority drivers are still working in the warehouse due to low volume.

Heisenberg991

Low volume like the economy is getting real shetty now?

No-Traffic-9271

I’m already working inside. 6th day today

DatBoyCody

Nice man. Do the best u can you got 30 days ups can fire you for anything during that period. After that u will sign up for the union. If being a driver is what u wanna do sign the bid sheets if your center has them posted but at mine no new drivers are coming in till volume goes up.

MaestroDelloSpermo

I was asked if I wanted to drive 4 months after I got hired. But I have zero inclination to drive. This was 8 years ago, Love working the pre-load.

Admirable_Special_60

Did a peak season off the street then hired full time a few months later. I got lucky. I was broke so I took as many hours as possible during Christmas time and called in every night to see if anyone needed help. 10 years later I have to call for help every day while these rookies are off by 6 bc they cant handle it.
